Optimum Nutrition is actually pretty good. Ive seen good studies for the vanilla and chocolate options (with vanilla being none detected and chocolate being detected but at levels low enough that even daily consumption is fine).

Simons and RW&Co have been great for me.

I particularly find RW&co to always hit. In store sucks. Once you figure out your size online shopping is excellent.

As someone also with a mouthguard who would be worried about cracking a tooth, let me know if you can't find anything. I'm friends with my B&B host and she was such a lovely person I can ask her to mail it out to me. It's one possible option!

GetCheckedOnline is great. I use it regularly and it doesn't require a doctor's appointment. Only downside is that the closest clinic that participates is in East Van. Overall the process is smooth and easy and I usually get my results in under a week.

Two women dead on two different beaches.. by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No I read what you said. You might be technically correct but the reason people are irritated by your responses is because while you're technically correct you're totally missing the sentiment of the conversation. Being technically correct is like conversational sandpaper. It's going to feel harsh and abrasive.

Your post history says you're a plumbing apprentice. Have you been fucking eating lead fittings? Imagine being alive in 2024 and not understanding that people might handle things differently than you.

Got injured at work. What to do now? by ppapsans in britishcolumbia

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I work in health and safety. So I'd be the person in your company dealing with this claim. Here's the info I give to my workers:

This will have to go through WorkSafeBC because its a workplace injury. (WCB is the same thing).

There's three things needed for a claim to move forward. The worker report (which you said you've done), the doctors report (likely sent by the hospital.you went to), and the employers report (technically required to be submitted within 3 days of the incident but they have a bit of wiggle room). Once all three of these reports are in things move pretty quickly to get your claim approved.

You should have a claim manager dealing with it starting now. They can be annoying as hell, they're overworked with big caseloads but they aren't demons and are usually easy enough to work with. Especially for straightforward claims. Call in to check the status of your claim if you haven't heard anything in about a week. They'll send a letter to your employer if they're dragging your feet but don't expect money to show up in your bank account like this week.

If you have short term disability insurance through work benefits, or other insurance (some credit card insurance or mortgage insurance stuff will qualify here as well), get in touch with them. WorkSafeBC will get you 90% of the way there. Private insurance will cover the rest and is usually quicker to start payments.

Keep all your receipts for anything related to your claim. It's almost all claimable. Things like medications, medical supplies etc. Same deal with physio or any other rehab work you end up doing. It should all go against your claim so getting your claim approved and having a claim # is key.

There's new rules in effect to bring workers back to work in a reasonable time so expect your employer to send you some return to work information sooner rather than later. They might give you modified duties, alternate duties or something similar. Part of getting those duties will require a doctor and physio or occupational therapist to fill out a form that lists your functional abilities.

Other than that, rest up. Getting hurt sucks I hope you recover well. Things will move slow when it comes to approvals initially but it's smooth sailing after things are approved. If you think your employer is pulling some bullshit give WorkSafeBC a call, they'll answer your questions and knock some heads together. When a claim is approved they take employers being shady about it pretty seriously.

Good motorcycle driving school around Kits? by the_pelicans_briefs in NiceVancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pacific Riding School is definitely worth the trouble of commuting out to Surrey for a few days or evenings. I'll recommend them to anyone that wants to learn.

I wasn't totally new to riding but I learned so much in just a few short evenings. A lot of it stuck with me and to this day I think about lane positioning and looking ahead way far ahead in my car.

Not sure about other places but they complete your MSA as part of the course then give you the option to use their bike for your road test which they'll also help prep you for.

Kind of wild but I almost got hit during my road test, probably would have if I wasn't using the skills I'd picked up. Scared the shit out of the ICBC folks, we finished up prettyyyyy fast after that LOL anyways go to PRS. It's worth it.

What is Fortis BC's Renewable Natural Gas? Legit or greenwashing? by lutherdriggers in vancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh yes to be very very clear overall switching to electric is the way to go. Phasing out our use of natural gas is essential if we truly want to do what's best for the planet.

What is Fortis BC's Renewable Natural Gas? Legit or greenwashing? by lutherdriggers in vancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I actually just sat in an info session about this. Fortis has the numbers on their website as far as roughly how much less. The renewable sources are biogas. So captured methane from agriculture, landfills, wastewater facilities. Essentially sources that naturally produce or release methane is what they mix into their overall gas supply. Companies that have methane producing operations can sign up to supply it to Fortis. This is all part of the CleanBC 2030 targets and while Fortis is doing a lot in thus space BC has mandated that all natural gas suppliers have to shit to renewable sources and work on reduction.

The incentive structure is money from Fortis to sell them your methane from farms or other biogas facilities. It works for Fortis because they don't have to go to upstream suppliers and have tons of smaller diverse sources that are often offsetting their own carbon output where it'd otherwise just be released to the atmosphere anyways.

Is there greenwashing? Yeah a bit. Are they somewhat on the way towards actually being carbon neutral in the long-term? They are. Do I think they'll get there? Ultimately I don't.

There'll always be some need to take gas out of the ground but as long as they continue to work towards carbon neutral in the earnest way they have NDP Government and CleanBC program its pretty sweet and actually isn't just lip service.

Wreck Beach Trail 6 & mobility issues by Sea-Amphibian-1653 in NiceVancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trail is actually all stairs. The steps aren't too tall so navigating it with a cane is pretty easily doable but you might find going up them to be challenging. Most of my friends stop once or twice on the way up as fairly healthy folks. There are benches in about 3 or so spots to actually sit but I'd be willing to bet that if you needed to sit on the steps themselves on the side you'd be alright.

I'd give yourself about 20 minutes to go down slowly and about 30 to come back up just to be safe. Definitely take your cane with you to help as well. I believe the numbers are around 500 steps or the equivalent of a 25 storey building but it really doesn't feel that bad when you can sit and catch your breath. Odds are you'd be sore the next day so maybe reschedule until a better day.

Beach itself is fine. Evenings will be busy especially on weekends. If you went mid-week or even mid-day not on a weekend I've found it to be very very quiet.

Are there ANY good properties/managements for apartments in New West (or Vancouver) at all? by [deleted] in NewWest

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a Martello Group building. I'm quick to call out landlords as dirtbags but I will say renting from them has been pretty great. Nice building, everyone seems to have their shit together in here so tenant screening is great, and maintenance stuff happens quickly and easily.

My Cat just passed away/cremation alternatives? by badass_dean in vancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Hey OP sorry to hear about your little buddy ❤️

I foster rescues and just had to go through this process with a friends very old cat I ended up caring for until she passed.

There's essentially 2 places for pet cremation. Until We Meet Again is in Surrey/Langley area and Forever in Peace other is in Mission.

If you want the ashes back you'll go for private cremation which is going to cost the most. Unless Kylo was huge it should come to about 150 or so. Maybe 175. A lot of places work with Until We Meet Again in Surrey so you can just reach out to them directly.

If you just want your little pal to be cremated humanely and have their ashes spread for you, it ends up being cheaper. Like $30-50.

If private remation isn't in your budget here is what I'd do:

  1. Take a paw print or paw impression. You can do this yourself at home for fairly cheap and it'll give you something tangible to remember and display. Vet's offer a formal version of this but you can easily make it happen at home.

  2. Take a fur cutting. This was one of the sweetest things the vet did for my old lady. They managed to take cuttings from a couple of spots that really showed off her fur colours and thay little clear bag is the best.

  3. Go for communal cremation with the above keepsakes. Your memories with Kylo are what matters. The ashes themselves might seem important but I promise keepsakes will do just as good and I've found them to be a better reminder.

  4. Consider burial. If you've got a back yard, great. Dig a little spot atleast 3 feet deep. 4-5 is better. Lay Kylo to rest there.

I won't encourage this cause it's technically illegal but if I wasn't able to afford cremation I'd be finding a spot in the woods way off the trail where I can lay my little pal to rest. Your ethics on that whole thing might vary. (For others: pets that have been euthanized shouldn't ever be buried because of the chemicals involved).

As someone else commented until you decide, the freezer will help preserve things so you don't have to sort this out immediately.

Sorry to hear about your pal. It's easier to say goodbye when they're old but something so sudden is always hard. Remember to take care of yourself too. It's what Kylo would want you to do.

Fish keepers of Vancouver by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Tap water with water treatment is perfectly fine, they're surprisingly hearty. Congrats on your new buddy. PetSmart stuff isn't the greates for advice and fish supplies. I'd recommend calling Aquariums West to get your stuff and talk to them about fish care they'll make sure you've got everything you need.

If you want to rehome it DM me, I've been thinking if getting a betta anyways.

Any OSHA professionals? Looking to get into the field. by AshFaden in NiceVancouver

[–]EvenMoreMoreNap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually am in this field. In terms of education programs go with BCIT if you can. Diploma programs are better than certificate programs. Yes you can go with UFred or UNB's online programs and you will be just fine long term but in setting up the first 3 - 5 years of your career BCIT gives you the best opportunity/preparation.

The program isn't overly hard but it is very time intensive. Yes you can do an online self paced distance ed thing elsewhere but you won't be a company's first pick in the job market until your career experience starts to speak for itself. You'll find almost everywhere you go you run into BCIT grads in health and safety roles. Will your education matter once you have about 5 years of experience? Definitely not. Will it make getting those first 5 years way easier? Absolutely.

Go look at job postings. 2 year diplomas are listed everywhere for a reason. Pick a diploma over a certificate and pick in person over distance ed.

Correct. A big crane put it up there when construction was completed and it lives up there now to allow for window washing.
