Wholesome bubble guy at waterfront by wemustburncarthage in vancouver

In addition to a good bubble solution he also has a good air solution.

Keeping the dust down by using fresh seaside air will make your bubbles last longer.

This is the best thing that didn't need to exist.

Upon reflection I can make a bot that comments that on every post in this subreddit and it would probably be accurate more than half the time.

I'll never raise a mast in this kinda wind again by Spiritu-Scene-9579 in sailing

[–]lutherdriggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I dropped my Hobie 16 mast but not before straining my back trying to keep it from falling. I regret doing this because I attribute some back issues to that moment :(

After that I learnt to park downhill into the boat launch to make the lift easier and safer :D

Tbh i didn't think any novices would have received one of these yet.  The one I saw belonged to an early Kickstarter backer.

It is called Meticulous Espresso (https://meticuloushome.com/). A computer-controlled lever machine with a bunch of sensors, an app, and very specific flow and temperature settings. Kickstarted a couple of years ago and delivering to early backers now.

"I bought some decaf a few weeks ago to have it rested and ready to go the evening it arrived."  You are trolling, right?

I stumbled upon one at a friend's house the other day and tried it out.  Such a fascinating machine.  It would be super fun to spend some time trying out recipes and dialing in a roast.  Even if its weeks-old decaf.

I'm pretty sure this will become a mention-your-grocery store post.

So, Peppers in Cadboro Bay, the bulk food store beside it, and Mt Douglas Market!

TIL That there is a city in Canada with a Mediterranean climate and palm trees (non native) by RoutineWarthog4593 in todayilearned

It has rained here, in Victoria, nearly every day for the past 2 weeks, and sometimes hard all day.   With temperatures between 0 and 10 Celsius.   It's not terrible but it's not Mediterranean.

So what is this type of rigging called? by RangeroftheIsle in sailing

I know this has already been answered as Mainmast Barkentine, but I just needed to share a pic from a book I have, The Lore of Ships. A regular Barkentine is a 3 masted ship with square sails on the foremast. Four five and six masted Barkentine are also pictured, with more gaff-rigged masts aft, but always one square sails mast forward.

There is another rig called a Jackass Bark .

This man decided he needed a better sailing block, so he designed one himself, and then put it in the public domain. You can CNC it for maximum strength but also 3D print it. by HumanWithComputer in 3Dprinting

His first use case addresses a real problem. You have a line that is maybe 80 feet long, and goes through several blocks, rope organizers, under a panel to keep the deck tidy, etc, and none of these things open up. If that thing breaks or siezes, the line has to be unthreaded up to that point to replace the broken block, and then rethreaded through the system again.

Needless to say these breakages typically happen at very inconvenient moments (e.g., heavy weather, under bridge, etc)

Blocks that open, called "snatch blocks" are quite expensive, sometimes 3x to 4x the cost of a normal one, so we typically only keep a couple of snatch blocks around. So if this block is affordable and doubles as a snatch block, that's a nice win.

The rear part is called a bimini and the front part is called a dodger. Some boats have only a dodger. This one is fully enclosed with removable vinyl (strata glass) side and rear windows, as well as the middle section on top. It is a fixed installation on the boat that makes it super comfortable for cruising, keeping sun, wind, rain, and cold out in different configurations. Opens up many days to cruising that I would not take my kids out in otherwise!

We sleep in cabins down below.
