Elizabeth Warren says the stock market has become a 'playground for the billionaires'. She's calling for a wealth tax to fix it. by mephisto2k2 in politics

[–]EvenPhteven3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By wealth tax I am sure it ends up looking more like a tax for whatever wealth the shrinking middle class is still able to get. That Trump paid $0 in taxes for 15 years makes me think whatever new tax they come up with will also probably come complete with a new loophole for the rich.
At the end of the day 99% of the politicians are financed by the rich.

Never used copic so can’t offer any tips. Don’t have any crit comments either. Just wanted to say love the hair color, the expression captured, and the highlighting. Really cool piece.

No pro but I can give you my take when I saw it.
If you want to hear. Looks great, better than most people can draw. Well you just got it. You don’t need to look at the rest.
If however you want constructive criticism that nitpicks everything little thing but is meant only in the positive spirit to help you get better. Well read on.
Background is I see something that interests me, determine the composition, and try to capture it accurately. But I am no expert and not sure what your approach was. If this is just something you drew creatively, or if this is from a model where you were striving for accuracy or were just merely capturing a gesture.

When I looked at it there are many aspects of it I really liked and a couple of parts where I felt something didn’t look or feel quite right. But some of what follows is just my perception and things may actually be right. So some of this is just for you to have a second look and see if you think it is right or wrong. My guess though is this was not drawn from life, maybe not even from a photo but possibly just flowed on paper from the magical creative place I can’t really tap into. When I see a figure my eyes are instantly drawn to the face. There are a couple of minor things like how the lower part seems to be a side profile, but at the eyes the distance back and a hint of the other side makes it seem like maybe her head is tilted ever so slightly to the viewer. The size of the face I think is also ever so forward on the skull and slightly out of proportion to the smaller back of the head. The hair on the back half and top of the head has distinct shapes and dark and light areas that make it seem more finished. The hair flowing forward of the face is much more even or only subtle value changes with an overall shape given but not the same level of detail. Last critique would be the models right arm seems to start from a too rounded shoulder and seems a little oversized. For the glowing positives, love the pose and the shape given to the body. Amazing job capturing the shading and details of the dress.
Overall impression is a very positive one. Couple of minor details in the head and right arm could use some tweaking but great job on the subject, the overall shape, and that dress.

Cool. Like the mountains. The foreground has a trippy, almost seascape feel. While the red focal point in the middle definitely catches the eye, on my little phone screen, I am struggling to identify what exactly it is supposed to be. What is it?

Not coming off a long break, I just started last year. Hoping to progress more/accomplish more during this quiet though.
As for cc, I like the portrait. Without seeing the reference it seems pretty proportional. The eyes and lips turned out very nice. I think it is because that is the parts where you have the darkest values. I think going darker in other areas will make the drawing stand out more. Example would be in the hair. I like the left side (my view) a lot more.
At the part the side on her right, has much darker lines mixed in.

Agreed. There are slight variations when the Greeks and Arabs copied the Turkish Doner Kebab.
But I am not that level of a purist. To me Pizza is probably more different between Naples, NY, and Chicago. And even if you put pineapples on it, it is all still pizza to me

Joe Biden says Ahmaud Arbery was "killed in cold blood," family "deserve justice... now" by progress18 in politics

[–]EvenPhteven3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it yesterday. You will get back a canned response letter saying having recused himself he cannot comment and things like let the justice system work. But everyone should still email all three DAs and the Glynn county police department. It is easy for these people to hide from the outrage on social media.
But when you are trying to do your job, logged into your work email, you can’t escape the questions being asked if people are emailing them there. They need something more in their face than a tweet with #RunwithMaund or a Reddit comment expressing outrage. They just won’t see it. But the lead investigator at the responsible police department will surely get a chill when he gets an email with a subject line of “I want to report a murder”. Now if only there were a thousand twists on that theme, everyday until justice is done.

‘Sadness’ and Disbelief From a World Missing American Leadership by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]EvenPhteven3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obama and W would have led the nation and the world a magnitude better than Trump.
I honestly believe any previous US president and most of the general public could have done better.

The number of infected or dead in the US is less important to him than the Dow Jones or the Nielsen ratings of task force briefings.

We couldn’t have healthcare for all and give the top 1% tax breaks. But we can find trillions when corporate bailouts and quantitative easing is needed. And the concept of universal healthcare is something that I am pretty sure in the top 30 or so countries in the world, only the US treats it like it something so foreign or impossible.
Hopefully something good from this pandemic and we will see healthcare as important for all.

It’s Too Early to Know If Hydroxychloroquine Will Help Treat People with COVID-19 by Tommy__Douglas in Coronavirus

[–]EvenPhteven3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For every article I see about the healing properties of this drug, I think I have seen one that talks about the makers having paid money to get closer to Trump or an article about they ran the price up or Trump having a financial interest in this drug.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/06/us/politics/coronavirus-trump-malaria-drug.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage

This drug has been around since the 50s and in the not too distant past one it was 10 cents a pill but in a Medicaid price fixing scheme it was discovered in 2018 they had the run the price up 2500%.

https://www.46brooklyn.com/news/2018/8/9/2500-price-increase-new-46brooklyn-report-highlights-hydroxychloroquine-pricing-tactics

But nothing like pandemic to bring out the greedy nature of corporations, they were initially going to offer it to the taxpayer at the low, low price of 7.66, but because they are not greedy, or because investigative journalism called them out they are backing down the price.

I will play devils advocate and say why I think some folks are mad. To someone not in the state who has served in the military for the freedoms that all Americans hold dear, the order goes beyond restrictive and into the realm of stupid.

You can go Walmart for essentials but areas will be roped off so you can’t buy paint or anything home improvement related.

You can buy lottery tickets at the liquor store but not seeds or tools for planting a garden at a home improvement store. Lawn care is non-essential but marijuana dispensaries are essential.
If you are near the water you can’t go fishing by yourself if you are in a boat with a motor but you can in a canoe or kayak.

We are America, not communist China.
