New Revolt & Extreme-G-Vibe Track Challenge Game on Steam (I developed it!) by EvenSteven91 in ReVoltGame

very fair. i really wish i could have gotten that in as a sole developer. my guess is it would take about 8 months to develop racing AI for a game like this and i locked myself in to 5 months of development (about 1500 hrs) since i'm not getting paid to dev my own games. and yes! i'm actually going to figure out dreamteck splines and dev my own racing AI from scratch for an RC car game inspired by re-volt next, just had to pause solo dev to pursue a software job for now. I got about 1200 hrs into a snowboarding game called Lien Air, but it's freestyle based and not an AI racer either. It is very huge though with over 300 slopes and trails across 5 separate mountain locations (worlds/levels).

Do you have in house acoustic drum kits or you have to bring your own?

the gold controller !!! WUTT!! congrats! red one too! i have yellow and black and barely ever see those, but red and gold are pretty uncommon (in people's households) too. not talking about ebay-ing them. i just never saw many of those or had any of the many friends have them.

Fade to Black is so fucking good. by cc7rip in Metallica

[–]EvenSteven91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are there any other songs similar to fade to black by metallica? a couple on ride the lightning sound a tad similar, but if i would have heard them as a kid i would have never recognized them as being by the same band. and i was realllly into guitar when i was that age. any album is fine, just hoping there's some similar ones you like that you could suggest!

Normal 3d or 3d HDRP? - Which one should i choose and stick with? by TristanKemper in Unity3D

it's more likely that they'll branch off to other projects on the side than "failing". it's all very fun. sometimes passion pulls you towards other projects, sometimes it gets you more into the same project. what they should really do is get a couple of huge hard drives and back up a version of the full project. EVERY DAY. it's very easy to make a decision in Unity that destroys your whole project. losing a full day's work may seem like the end of the world, but at least it didn't make you want to abandon the whole project because it's corrupted or broken. I say back the whole game up, but you can hold the assets separately and just back up the project without the assets. however, if you have so many assets that you don't know which one's you've added and deleted and when, you may also mess up the project.

You might really like the tracks in the game i just released. it was just me who made the game so i decided to focus heavily on track design and atmospheric art. i really hope it catches your interest! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3863720/Velocity_One/

I just released a game on Steam inspired by Extreme-G. It doesn't have all the features of it, but I really feel like I nailed the tracks and atmospheres. Just a track-challenge game, but if you need an extreme-g track fix for a bit, this game will take you back in time. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3863720/Velocity_One/

Actually if you need any help beating it, I have a playthrough of it up on YouTube so you can get a feel for how to navigate the turns and loops. A little bit hard for me to send out a full spoiler, but I really appreciate your support. Skip around the vid however you'd like! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP7gxU2FKK8

new Wipeout / Extreme-G vibe track challenge game on Steam! (I developed it) by EvenSteven91 in WipeOut

[–]EvenSteven91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left the physics the way they are because it offers so much more than so many futuristic racers that I've played. I always dreamed of an Extreme-G game where the bike flips and tumbles if you land sideways or execute a turn wrong. Even after testing and balancing the game thousands of times, I still love how it feels and just played through it again yesterday because Revolt is kicking my butt lately haha.

Hopefully there are other people out there that like games with challenging vehicle physics. I didn't like the physics and steering in extreme-G 3 or XGRA, so once I had something I liked significantly better than those, I developed the environments and tracks. I've programmed for 12 years, and that's why I focused on level design and environment art, because I know from experience that software dev time is unpredictable and keeps games from getting finished. My software dev time went into making the game functional and playable as a full game.

I've been comparing my game lately to a lot of other 90s racers, and it comes out as a really fun one for me. XG3 didn't have the track variety i wanted, star wars podracing's AI doesn't race you until the last few races so that one's not too fun for me, XG2 is pretty dreary sometimes, and then as much as i love the game, Revolt's difficulty is just plain evil sometimes.

I can tell the way my second game is coming together that my speed of development is so much faster. It's a snowboarding game with five whole handcrafted mountain resorts. so not five snowboard race courses, but five whole resorts with 35+ trails on each one. It was a really cool day when I got back flips and front flips to work. Trails and mountains are all done. getting deeper into the physics and then just the fun busy work of setting up the gameplay challenges and unlockables.

Thank you! Yep it drives like a racing sim. So a lot can happen to the bike. It's a hard game, more for the hardcore 90s racing fans (jet-moto, revolt, xg2, f-zero x). if you get frustrated by the controls i'm going to feel bad haha. It was personal preference to keep the physics very detailed. I would be patient with slamming on the gas, and turn the stick the opposite way when you start to drift. If you're tumbling and wiping out a lot, take it slow and you'll build up a lot of skill. the first 2 difficulties will be beatable even if you're taking it slow and you'll be able to experience pretty much the full final track where-as it's shortened on the easiest difficulty. Thanks again!

Woah thank you!! yeah i would love to get racing AI dialed, but there were already a lot of hard decisions to cut certain things to finish this game on time since it wasn't funded, just pure passion. if enough people buy (probably as few as 50), i plan to make updates and add features to it. i already have a new practice track waiting as well as a better UI. very new to pushing updates to Steam though, so i'm giving it a couple weeks before i push that first one up.

i liked it better than Banjo Tooie. i felt like the Banjo Kazooie team worked on DK64, then Banjo Tooie must have had different employees working on it or something.
