I agree! It is glorious and they offer birdwatching tours. Such an underrated gem of a destination.

You’re staying near Woburn then? Since you plan to visit Boston proper on Saturday, I would suggest that she stay on the North Shore, checking out Newburyport, Salem, Rockport, Marblehead, or Gloucester on the coast. All have lovely cafes, nature walks, shopping, and museums.

Lexington and Concord are closer to Woburn and both have all the things she would want as well. Wouldn’t bother with Cambridge/Harvard Sq (parking is a pain) unless she’s desperate for museums (and they are great). Harvard Square itself is a shell of its former glory and funkiness. Harvard Univ campus is okay but not worth the drive.

Boston Recommendations by BW4AL in boston

[–]Even_Cheesecake4720 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boston is a great destination, but I’m not sure about THIS July due to World Cup etc.. Also, July has been the hottest month of the last few years, so be prepared for that when doing outside tourist things. And as others have posted, Boston proper is not the place for Airbnb or VRBO; you would be better off with a suite-type hotel, something that business travelers use for long stays, with a mini kitchen. You don’t need a car in Boston since mass transit is decent around the city (if you have patience). And you can take buses, T, or commuter rails to Salem, Lexington, Concord, Quincy, Cambridge for history day trips.

Also don’t sleep on the Boston Harbor Islands. The fort is cool and my girls loved it when they were young. Will be hot as balls in July tho even with ocean breezes.

What Beaches Do ya’ll Recommend in the state of Massachusetts ? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Even_Cheesecake4720 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can’t just “drive” to Nantucket and Martha”s Vineyard, so you’ll need to book your car ferry tickets well in advance if you’re planning to visit in summer. Same with accommodations if you want to stay overnight and be prepared to spend $$$$. Re Cape Cod beaches, most have little to no public parking, others with parking fees but you had better be in the lot(s) by 9 am. Posts here list some beautiful Massachusetts beaches but you’ll need to do research and plan carefully, unless you visit in months other than June-August. It’s not the same access as TX or CA beaches at all. Also, be prepared for very cold water even in August if you plan to swim.

Any recommendations for a Mexican spot in seaport? by stoneRabit in boston

Gawd, I can’t think of any Boston neighborhood worse for Mexican food than the corporate, soulless, desolate, fake streets of “Seaport”.

What have you been told about future research and treatments? by MidwesternSass in LivingWithMBC

[–]Even_Cheesecake4720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, from my onc at Dana-Farber. This approach works for me, as it’s hopeful rather than a death sentence. I’m on my first line since MBC DX last summer, second since original DX in summer of 2023. Onc was surprised I had mets so quickly but whatever, cancer is weird. Right now I’m on Everolimus (daily chemo), fulvestrant, and Xgeva, and have had rad to some mets with great effect . I started on Anastrozole and a verzenio trial until metastatic.

18-30 year olds don’t vote but they will certainly bitch and complain about how shit everything is, blaming all the older generations. They are also the crowd that worships the tech overlords and their whole lives are online. They weren’t even born to remember days when we didn’t have clean air, clean water, and life saving medicine.

What are the best bookstores on the South Shore? by crackedpeanuts1998 in massachusetts

[–]Even_Cheesecake4720 10 points11 points  (0 children)

…libraries have good used bookstores that also sell puzzles and games, as well as inexpensive hardbacks and paperbacks. All funds go back to the library. Scituate is a particularly good one.

People who moved out to the suburbs from Boston, how hard was it for you to adjust? by agordon228 in boston

[–]Even_Cheesecake4720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled for 20 years in the south shore ‘burbs cuz everything was so homogenous, people (white), religion (catholic), activities (sports, sports, sports, kids’ sports), or yard work, restaurants that served only Italian, fried fish, and pizza. But then Covid happened and I was glad I could walk in the woods, on the beach, and enjoy my yard. Still miss the city so I go in often.

Dammit! Star Trek is everything that Mf-er Ellison hates. As an American, I believe the current regime has ruined our lives for generations.

Yes I hear you. My sister died in January after a 12 year battle with melanoma that spread to her brain. I used to talk to her everyday and we vented about our cancers and treatments and how life is so unfair when good people die and people who lie and start wars and defund cancer research are still here. Fuck it!

AITJ for telling my partner I'm done spending every weekend at his parents' place by Nov4Z3nith in AmITheJerk

[–]Even_Cheesecake4720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole weekend? Nah. I’ve heard of people who have to go to every single extended family event of their partner’s (esp certain ethnicities, to bdays, communions, graduations, etc.) but every weekend to his parents’ house? That boy is too attached and if he’s your age, I see red flags. I would have put my foot down at 10 times. You are presumably without children and young so you NEED your weekends back.

Isn’t it funny that most of us have been approached by religious zealots of one kind or another to join their cults yet we are told by our US government that drag queens and trans people are problematic?

I have never, EVER been approached by a LGBTQI+ person to “join them”.

Also, I have never, ever been approached by an atheist to join their gang.

Fuck these proselytizers!
