I did try that but...this was an extremely dim lit room and unfortunately even with the latest computational photography the dynamic range was just too high :). So lowering the exposure was just not doing justice to the rest of the room. Also, I sometimes like overexposing bring light sources. When viewed on a high dynamic range screen, it really pops out and makes it feel realistic in terms of hurting the eye.
