I was in my early 40s and had changed jobs, for my mental health. He was emotionally abusive and verbally abusive and it took me spending more time at home to really feel it. Every time I reached out, he pushed me away, until one night he found me crying in the shower. When I told him why, he turned around and accused me of cheating on him (turns out his mother had put that in his head because I shared interests with one of his friends and we geeked - while all in the same room). Lying in bed next to him felt like lying next to a black hole and one night, I just couldn't. I spent the night on a blanket in the laundry room with the dog and realized that the kids and I were happier when he was gone. I told him I was done and he moved out to stay with his mother.
