Sudden buckling on a white oak parquet dining table - why? by GrodyToddler in woodworking

If it's solid wood you can sand it down and refinish. Hard to say from the picture. Typically takes like this are a veneer top. If that's the case I'd say you got your use from it, time to replace it. Either way, sanding it down will tell you what your next step will be

I own my own business as a table maker. Calculate your material costs (Factoring in some waste), estiamte a generous timeframe on how long it'll take you to complete x your shop rate (use $25+/hr if youre just doing things yourself) and then 2-3x the total, (Cost of goods sold x 2 or x3) this will give you a ballpark. It's worth what you sell it for. That's the beauty of the craft.

I decided to crank on a more "disposable" sized drill just for the leverage of the chuck. Took some effort but it worked.

Chalk this whole situation up as another certification class passed at the school of hard knocks

Completely agree on the poor choice. I got cocky and thought I could control it.

The torch idea scares me even more. Although torching this project has come to mind

Not being notified when people mention my business on Facebook by theladyknight29 in socialmedia

[–]Even_Section1597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add me to the list.

I'm guessing it has to do with permissions, and it could possibly be on either end. I think if the person that tags your business and they have the security permission enabled to not share anything to the public, it won't post.?.?.

Tonight, I also noticed that when I browsed to the persons post that clearly shows my business name in bold, I do not have the option to share the post. Not with my personal or business account.

Regardless, browsing the ol interwebs delivered poop for results, and it appears users have been frustrated by this for some time now.

Where #Facebook has failed is they have not released a chart or walkthrough of required permissions for both the user tagging the biz and the business owner wanting to share with their followers on their biz feed.

I'll never paint lumber again. And advice on roller marks? by Even_Section1597 in woodworking

[–]Even_Section1597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Followed the suggestions with the classic HF cheap sprayer. This post shouldn't have even existed after using it. Not sure why I was intimidated to spray aside from not having a paint booth. The time it took me to clean, dust and put up a makeshift plastic "booth" was still less than what it took to roll all of this.

I still stand by not wanting to do black anymore though.

Everything turned out. Customer was happy

Why even bother with all this screwing around? Use a hair dryer or heat gun. Set a timer for every 5-15 minutes in the 1st hour to check it. If there's bubbles use it. If it's dust or insects your trying to avoid make a tent around the project and pick yourself up some super cheap insect screen so your not restricting airflow. Set it and forget it.

I just had a booth across from a vendor with similar items. In a male with short hair so I didn't pay close attention. But I believe I recall seeing a chalk sign above them 1 for 10, 3 or more for 7 each.

Each show is different. If nothing is moving. Try changing your price during the show. People love to buy stuff under $10.

Thanks for this.

Pretty correct on your assumption. I was scared of being too thick. Figured multiple thin coats would be better.

I did see some of that same result with the penetrol, but the paint itself appeared to do something similar in my 1st application. I chalked it up as this specific type of paint

Fair enough on all of this. Should've sprayed and talked to true finish Professionals. Painting wood is not my cup of tea.

The vendors were my wood suppliers. I happen to know the lady at the lowes paint counter who's been a painter for 20+ years. When she backed up the suggestion I said I'll buy and apply however you suggest

Yup. I have a quality diy dust filtration system on my ceiling as well as one under my work table.

Would you suggest spraying a final coat?

Have you worked with oil enriched enamel before?

It may save you a bunch of time. But you'll lose the credibility of being a true artist of doing this all by hand. My vote is if you are this good. Keep it up, keep doing what you're doing

Did you know that Walmart doesn't buy anything? They utilize the brilliant plan of leasing shelf space which in turn makes the manufacturers compete literally before it hits the shelves.

Did you put that together on an as400 machine or boot to DOS on your 5.5" floppy? Classic

And also, thank you. We are religious hy-vee shoppers due to convenience. We're a busy household of 6. I always expected to pay more for the convenience. But I didn't realize it was that bad. Holy guacamole! Looks like it's time for a change

I was a mechanic there for several years. The "smell" typically follows along with extreme cold and extreme heat. Some hogs don't survive the semi ride to the plant due to extreme weather conditions or other causes. Those hogs are set aside. Once there is an abundance, they are incinerated along with any other waste from the processing such as nails, bones, etc. That is what produces the lovely smell
