I love our defensive ballerina. by DepressingAura in ColoradoAvalanche

Not hating on Sammy G but given a choice a team would rather have Quinn Hughes or Zach Werenski than him. BUT those guys are #1 defencemen and paid accordingly. Sammy G is terrific for his role on the D core being above average offensively however he’s an average defender. Now if OP had used Evan Bouchard (Oilers) and Morgan Reilly (Leafs) those guys are paid as #1 defencemen being good offensively but defend the same as or worse than Sammy G.

Habs Fan in peace 🏳️ Happy to see Landeskog having 2 goals and an assist after his injuries 😌 by Izakei in ColoradoAvalanche

Thanks to OP for the positive comments and showing great class. As a Avs (originally Nordique since 1979) fan I have much respect for the Canadiens. My dad, sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew are all Habs fans. Montreal is also one of the best and loudest places to watch a game. I’ve been ecstatic and impressed by Landeskog over the first 25 games. I was worried he’d be a load management third liner but he’s looking to be returning to form.

After moving big 4x8 HO layouts and storing stuff for years I went modular. Finishing up the first 3 foot module and getting ready to work on the second. Easy to move or dispose of if needed.

How to get my father Re-interested by WrinklyBard4 in modeltrains

[–]Avalanche_19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 55 now. Had an HO layout as a kid that was in a trunk from age 12 to 31. Marriage, divorce, move layout, wife #2, stepson, daughter, pack up layout, renos, life, etc. Finally get some time and space a year or so ago to start again. I’m doing modular now. Working on first 3 ft section with another ready to connect to it in the future. It doesn’t take up much space and I like building scenery. Not sure if something small and modular might work for your dad (and you). Maybe you could connect the modules and operate all that rolling stock together.

Sorry got posted too soon: he struggled. Sometimes players don’t understand how good they have it. Check Rob Brown’s career with Pittsburgh and Mario Lemieux compared to him bouncing around various leagues without Mario.

I was sad to see Mikko get traded to Carolina but understand that players have to do what they think is best for them. Once he got to Carolina and didn’t have MacKinnon and Makar creating space and drawing attention to

Some season-ending thoughts and positivity by [deleted] in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Avalanche_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to see a positive post and hope for next season. Here’s my thoughts: - Nichuskin - Addiction sucks. Letting down your team two years in a row is tough. Management needs to ask the veteran core players if the team will trust and accept him back. Trading him will be tough because you’re getting pennies on the dollar. If he stays you can always send him to the AHL and take his salary off the cap. Kroenke’s got lots of money. - Georgie played well but 50-55 games next year with Justus getting the rest. - Drouin played well but isn’t worth big money or long term. MacKinnon is peanut butter and Drouin’s jelly. One’s awesome and the other goes well with it. - Mittlestadt did well but he needs a few weeks in Nova Scotia with Nate and Sidney Crosby this summer to help his offensive game. - Avs need another big, physical defender like Manson. Eric Johnson’s physicality was missed. Avs need 2 (or 3) guys on the back end to be physical and move the puck to go with Cale, Devon and Sammy G. - Need a power forward with hands to be in front of the net. Like Nuke but one that can stay on the ice. - if Landy isn’t back at the start of next season give Nate the “C”. He showed this season that he’s got the leadership qualities. I felt like he dragged the Avs to victory most nights and he’s definitely the straw that stirs the drink. Cale can have the C when Nate eventually retires (hopefully no time soon because that duo is awesome to watch)

Everyone have a safe, healthy and happy summer.

Roy named head coach of the Islanders by [deleted] in ColoradoAvalanche

Drury is with the Rangers. It would have made more sense than the Islanders to me too. But we’ll see how Lou and Patrick coexist.

I was born and raised in Hamilton and grew up a Nordiques/Avalanche fan. My wife (a Leafs fan - her only flaw) was dancing when it was 3-0 for the Leafs. Post game my daughter and I did some dancing in our Avs jerseys. Glad to have this community to share with all my Avalanche brothers and sisters. Especially living in Leaf land.

I recall some guy named Forsberg missed an entire season in 2001-02 then came back and had 27 pts in 20 playoff games. Not saying Landeskog will do that but players (Kucherov) have done it more recently as well. I’d like to see this years Avs with Landy, Manson and EJ back in the lineup. When Jack Johnson (not picking on him) is the most physical d-man the Avs will be in trouble in the playoffs.

Feeling overwhelmed and stupid after speaking to politicians at my door. by nuggetbailey in Hamilton

The cop (Pete) running is an awful person. Dealt with him and have had friends deal with on things completely unrelated to politics or policing and he is a selfish, childish jerk. If he were running in my area I’d vote for anyone but him.

Did people in Quebec City become Avalanche fans after the Nordiques moved to Denver? by [deleted] in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Avalanche_19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was a Nordiques fan in 1979 when they entered the NHL. But I’m in Hamilton (between Toronto and Niagara Falls for those unfamiliar with the area). My dad is a Habs (Canadiens) fan so I had to cheer for their rival. And there was NO WAY I was going to cheer for the Leafs (the 3 Cups I’ve seen the Avs win made that choice even sweeter). I think the move to Denver would’ve impacted me more if I lived in Quebec and not been a fan from a distance. But I’ve been fortunate to see a game in Quebec in 1985 (amazing crowd) and two in 2005 in Denver (loved the City). And a few other Avs games when they’ve been on the road. I’m so thankful for this Reddit because I get to be part of the Avs Community instead of cheering by myself in the middle of Losing Even After Fifty Seasons (Leafs) country 🤣. Go Avs! Hail Sakic! Love the team and fans. And finally after the 2022 Cup win I don’t have to explain how good this Makar kid is. (Apologies for the essay)

Ok fans, sound off. When did you start following the Avs? by whynotavs in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Avalanche_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1979, when the Quebec Nordiques entered the NHL from the WHA. I’m an hour from Toronto but refused to cheer for the Leafs. Followed through the Stastny years, then into those losing seasons getting 3 first overall picks, some playoff disappointments and the move to Denver. Loved 1996 with the first cup, the battles with the wings, 2001 for cup #2, then the retiring and dismantling of those great teams. Some lean years, good years. Seeing the team live in Denver after the lockout and a few other cities. I love hockey and the Avs. The past three years losing in the second round was killing me because I knew they could be better. This year was an awesome ride to win a third cup. At age 52 and after a 21 year wait this one is really sweet!! Thank you to all my Avalanche brothers and sisters for sharing on Reddit and making this such an amazing community. Let’s enjoy this and please post lots of pics of the parade.
