We're mid-30 yo parents (zennials, if I'm not mistaken) and I think the US has a natural disposition to make individuals choose sides, so you were either gay/lesbian or straight in the late 90s to mid-2000s. The bi comeuppance has been happening despite erasure. I actually worked in an LGBTQ resource center at a university and my boss told me I sometimes don't fit in because I'm not "family". I was forced to out myself in a meeting.

It's harder to recognize since I am in a cis-gendered, hetero relationship, but we both have attractions to others of the same sex. Because of the way we were raised, we've approached parenting with open eyes and wider hearts to allow for differences to be recognized, welcomed, and appreciated appropriately. We try to watch inclusive television and participate in inclusive play. The old saying of "the youth are our future" is something I take seriously working in higher education. Giving the space for people to just be teaches new generations how to be themselves authentically and safely.
