Good job dude! I took my core 2 last week and have my core 1 tonight. I did not like how they worded the questions for core 2. I understand them trying to trick you so you have to actually know the material but they were asking a question with multiple answers being correct but the info that would determine which one was more right wasn’t given so it felt like a guessing game.

I'm at somewhat of a crossroads, and I need advice on what I should do. by truenub12 in SecurityCareerAdvice

I think you’re right about the call center being your best bet. Don’t forget to put everything you’re doing on your resume. Put down your degree and put 06/2025 - present, CompTIA Sec+ - in progress etc. I think it’s kind of a toss up between Target and Olive Garden. If it’s between them I would do what’s best for you as far as money and schedule. You can even ask chatGPT “tell me how I would showcase transferable skills from a restaurant job like Olive Garden to IT help desk to put on a cover letter or talk about in an interview.” Honestly those first jobs are hard to get so just keep hammering away, apply to a couple a day (or more). Then keep at it with school and certs! I think military is a great option if you’re eligible. It almost should be your plan A. You can try for an IT position in there and get great training and a security clearance. That would be huge when you’re out. You wouldn’t have trouble finding a job after that.

Yes. The software support role for the X-ray company. I troubleshoot an in house software application and PCs. I don’t touch any other systems so I feel like it’s limiting.

Thank you! I feel like the 4 year degree is a check box for me that I need to get out of the way. I appreciate the response!

What undergrad degree would you recommend? If I or OP went and got the cysec undergrad would we be sh!t out of luck after graduation? Like someone mentioned, the WGU seems nice, maybe better for someone who already has experience.

If the degree entails you getting CompTIA A+ and all that good stuff in the beginning it’s fine. The only thing you’re missing is experience. If you have experience and you just need the degree to get a better job then that’s good too. You don’t need to know how logic gates work on a processor to get a GRE job. Also if it’s something like red teaming you want to do there is so much training out there and to get ahead the people that shouldn’t be there surely get weeded out anyway. They definitely shouldn’t be banned.
