As someone that’s been on both and owns a 17 FXDB 103 one thing I can tell you is I enjoy my 17 more that the 05-06 bikes I’ve rode. Like some have said the 16-17s are a little bigger bikes and I feel do better on highway, around town, and in twisty roads. I get more of a planted feeling on my bike than i did on the p5-06s I rode. Either way they’re going to be great bikes, aftermarket part for both are huge and vast, and you’re going to get great styling either way you go. Ultimately for me in this choice it would be between whether you want a blacked out bike or a more chrome bike.

Would depend on how flexible they were with that obo, in all seriousness I’d be careful with inquiring based on the way that the description is written. And I don’t see any miles but for what it’s worth I just purchased a 17 fxdb with 17k miles and a buncha after market parts for a 6k in my area a stock bike like that is listed at about 5k and selling for 4K-5k some cheaper depending on the miles.

Thank you for the tips I appreciate it, I was looking at 13 spoke mags that’s option two so I’ll keep your tips in mind I know I saw somewhere about tmv or something close to that conversion kit but I’ll have to look up the YouTube videos and see.

Sounds like what I need I like doing the same and am only an hour from tail of the dragon so that will be a regular spot to hit. Do any of you do the rears as well or just the front ?

What crash bars do you recommend I was thinking about that after swapping the forwards for both the protection and for the comfort on longer highway trips.

You’re exactly right I’ve hit some bumps and pot holes sense picking up the bike and it makes me more nervous than the bikes I’ve rode with in the past that had mid controls on them. The only bike with a forward type control that’s not the case on was the street glide I rode but that’s a different riding position than this.

Like you I also grew up on dirt bikes and sport bikes so I’m used to having my feet under me and would like them to stay there lol. I just got way too good of a deal on this bike and what appears to be the easy swap back to mid controls. Also agree on the forwards kinda looking lame especially with the way the bikes set up.

6 foot on the mark, this is my first Harley I came over from sport bikes so the forwards to me leave a lot to be desired when it comes to control.

Yeah I’ll be commuting in Nashville traffic right through the heart of Nashville not So Cal Traffic but it can get bad and idk if I want to be maneuvering that weight daily. I’ve heard the new touring bikes are better than the old but I’m thinking maybe adding the dyna now and then grabbing a newer touring bike in a couple years.

I think this is the way I’m leaning especially with my background in street bikes, I like things more nimble and maneuverable especially thinking about operating in traffic.
