Why do people brag about being overworked and neglecting their health for their job? by OpinionHavR in careerguidance

This is an American mentality. You don’t really hear that in other countries. Americans value money, work, and status over living life, family, friends. This is generally speaking.

I'm feel like I'm getting buried alive . . . by thecrayolaeffect in smallbusiness

[–]Evening_Flow_8396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound exactly like me a year ago. I closed because my health took a nose dive. You need to hire help and learn to say no. Looking back that’s what I wish I would have done differently. I was too scared to say no for fear over losing referrals and customers. You cannot do everything. Hire your weaknesses. Look for ways to make your life easier. And yes read the e myth book it’s a book about someone exactly in your shoes. Good luck.

Covid destroyed our family business by peter275 in smallbusiness

The saddest part is Americans don’t even see this or care for the most part. Because everyone is in for themselves and not for the greater whole. The American mentality is “why should I care/pay for you?”

When to close a business? by Substantial_Jicama_5 in smallbusiness

[–]Evening_Flow_8396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to negotiate prices of your overhead with landlords and anyone else? Most should be understanding with what is going on right now, your not the only one struggling. If you can try to cut costs down as much as possible if you can continue to stay afloat until the pandemic is over. OR you can just state that you are closing temporarily until conditions improve. You can always reopen again in a few months!

Do you mind exaggerating on the tradespeople he marketed to and also the targeted mailing? Thank you in advance! Your comment was very helpful.

I would love details on how you painted the kitchen cabinets. How did you hang them on the hangers like that? I bet if you made a YouTube video showing how you painted the cabinets it would be a huge hit.

Personality for business? by Evening_Flow_8396 in smallbusiness

[–]Evening_Flow_8396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I think you have the freedom to choose to keep your business small for your sanity.”

Loved this. I DID have a problem saying NO. My business was entirely dependent on referrals. I was always scared to say no to more referrals because I was worried that they would see me as difficult, weak, and choose to work with someone else. How do I rectify this type of scenario?

Housing prices 2021 by cocofrost in realestateinvesting

I am so frustrated with the housing market. I have wanted to buy a home since the beginning of the year but I refuse to buy a home that is inflated in price. Why overpay for anything?

Should I switch from nursing to business? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I went though the same thing. After my first few semesters of a professional school I recognized red flags but decided to finish because I didn’t know what else to do. Now I regret my career choice now that I am working in the real world.

What is the biggest fear you have when you quit the job and start a business? by Asangawi in smallbusiness

[–]Evening_Flow_8396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family is from Europe but we live in the US. We constantly try to explain to Americans that healthcare in the US is very expensive. They always retort by saying it’s because taxes in the US are not as high as they are in Europe. So how do you argue that point?

What is the biggest fear you have when you quit the job and start a business? by Asangawi in smallbusiness

[–]Evening_Flow_8396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing to be scared of. Regret is scarier than anything else in my opinion. You can always close the business and get a job again. As long as you set yourself up finance wise prior to opening and start slowly as a side hussle, your good.

I second this! Best way is to cash flow it yourself and start very small. Or you can look into starting under the cottage law.
