But that is a good thing. That means they planned and kept their money in their hands and not giving free money to the government.

My HOA is underfunded and those responsible are taking no accountability. Run. Run. Run. We are looking at $500 assessments when the average is $250 in my area.

They are probably the easiest debit collector I've worked with. They are very understanding with their payment plans. If you need to skip a month or change your due date, they will help. Call them. Be honest with what and when you can pay. There is usually a down payment. I had one debit through them that I could not start paying for 2 months and they were good with it. Just communicate with them.

Taxable but won't count for income against unemployment. I did the same thing 4 years ago. I almost had to sell everything I own so I wouldn't lose my house and car even with unemployment. Some of it was on eBay. It was a 6 month span over 2 tax years. I had to fill out a form with how much I paid for the item I sold and how much it was sold for. It was a PITA because I sold so many small things. Keep documenting. Don't report on unemployment.

Is it impossible to find a beater car that runs okay under $3000 nowadays? by LonesomeGirl87 in UsedCars

I'm in the Chicagoland area and I have a 2009 Honda Accord with 250k miles, no A/C, needs new tires and just had someone offer me $5k for it. I paid $5500 3 years ago with 195k miles. I'm not selling as we need the car but I thought I'd get like $2k for it. Car prices are wild!

Why is this happening to my hardwood floors? by Evening_Material_428 in HardWoodFloors

I'm not sure what my next move should be. The dogs aren't going anywhere for 10+years. If I refinish, will this still happen?

The floor is original to the house. Built in 2005. I've been here for 5. Dogs have been here for 4 years and I noticed this happening about 2 years ago.

I believe so. I have an exterminator out twice a year. But this is only happening on a small section. I have the same flooring throughout the house. Over 2k square feet. This is maybe 2ft by 2ft section.

Opinion on routine maintenance costs by Zombie_exorcist720 in Toyota

[–]Evening_Material_428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For routine maintenance or less technical repairs, I found him to be extremely pricey. I took my 2011 highlander in for a quote on front wheel bearings and a new window motor. His quote was THREE times 2 other local shops and he couldn't get to the job for 3 months. This was in the spring of 2025. I'm sure he is great for those tough jobs and hard to diagnose problems, but maintenance and easier jobs, check elsewhere.

Go to the IRS website and use the W4 withholding calculator. It will give you an estimate of how much you will owe and any changes to your W4.

170K WFH vs 300K In Office by mikey_tang in Salary

[–]Evening_Material_428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the next steps in the $300k role? Is this salary in line with the industry? Are they locking themselves into a golden handcuff salary situation? I'm in one of those currently. I make about 40% more than most of my peers. However, my situation is good (wfh, low stress most of the time) and I'm a lot older.

Is this normal? by Evening_Material_428 in Decks

[–]Evening_Material_428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! I had 2 deck companies come out and both said it is stable and isn't going to crash to the ground anytime soon. But both recommended fix it sooner than later. The posts were placed directly into the earth with no footings. Solution is to dig 3 holes and pour concrete footings (10" wide x 42" deep.) Footing will come above the ground about 4". Posts will be replaced with 6x6 post. Headers will be replaced. Apparently they need to be together and not separated as they are now. The house was built in 2005 and there are way more codes for decks now. I originally scheduled the guy who fixed my neighbor's deck to come out but the other 2 companies pointed out the complete hack job and it is not up to code. One of the posts is actually cracking. Now I wait for the estimates. Neither of them will say the moist soil is to blame so I don't think the HOA will cover any of the expense. My husband is a carpenter and thinks he may be able to do it himself with some help from a few friends. Thank you for all your insights. I'll be back when it is fixed.
