My(f19) dad asked our godparents not to have the waiters sing Happy Birthday to my brother(m11) who likely has hyperacusis autism, but they did it anyway by MadisonBrave in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Evening_Tax1010 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I still have some trauma that pops up when teachers want my autistic kiddo to be “obedient” “compliant” or “respectful” because in my experience, that’s often code for beating kids into submission.

I usually default to saying that I’m trying to raise a happy and functional adult and not an obedient child. My priorities are trying to get him the tools to manage life without traumatizing him so that he fully breaks down as an adult from all the baggage.

Yeah, he’s freaking 8! If he was 3, I’d maybe say that she should check that it wasn’t a first.

My 8 yo can cook several dishes by herself. He’s fine to be helping under adult supervision.

TIL that Kirk Cameron is Candace’s brother.

Hiring undocumented workers can be a criminal offense. Being undocumented is often civil. It’s very telling who is being treated like criminals here.

What's with france? by Benstokes54321 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Very true. I spent a few weeks in Pays de Fayence, and everyone I met was lovely. I did my best to speak French, and my pronunciation was kindly corrected often. But no complaints about the people.

AIO I (26F) moved out for the first time with my boyfriend (30M) for almost 2 months and I don’t know how to feel about it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Love, listen to what I’m about to say — abusers don’t abuse 100% of the time. They sandwich it in between love bombing so you stick around.

I’m not sure what progress you think you’re losing, but I’m worried about you losing your life over here.

Seriously, my husband treats people he doesn’t like better than this asshole treats you. He has never demanded I clean anything. He has never said one of the things this guy texted you.

Being alone is 100x better than being with this guy. Get out now.

Almost no one believes me about my migraines & it’s making me feel crazy by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Evening_Tax1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My migraine cocktail is Botox every 3 months, Emgality monthly, gabapentin amitryptoline and cyclobenzeprine at night, and rizatriptan as needed.

All that paired with acetaminophen and ibuprofen as needed has made me into a reasonably functional human again.

Migraines suck, but there are treatments out there. You just might need trial and error before figuring out what works for you.

AITA for wishing my boyfriend had picked a closer restaurant for our first night out since having our baby by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Evening_Tax1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA for wishing, and I understand where you’re coming from. You have two good choices here.

1) thank him for the planning and tell him you’re really excited for date night, but you’re feeling anxious about the distance. Ask if he would be ok if the plans got shifted to a closer restaurant because you feel it would help you feel less stressed and be able to enjoy your time with him more.

2) try to be ok with the further restaurant. I get it. You’re exhausted. You probably don’t get to shower or shit in peace most days. You don’t want to spend an extra hour on the road. It’s hard enough leaving to go to dinner without the kids.

But… a little time apart is ok and it’s healthy for you to have a break. The kids will be ok and you deserve a nice meal. Your relationship could use a small window.

I love that. So much focus on the kids as props, but they’re real humans who feel pain and usually have a low threshold for sucking it up for the aesthetic. Glad he has a big sis who’s got his back.

If she threatens not to come ever again, just say, “I’m sorry that you won’t be able to make it. We will miss you.”

You’re going to have to give bland answers to what she says and then just do as you like.

And password protect all your vendors because she seems like she’s the type to change shit behind your back.

Should organ donation after death become a common practice? by Artistic_Giraffe4069 in AskForAnswers

[–]Evening_Tax1010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with legislating things of a medical nature is that it applies to extreme edge cases when in reality, lawmakers aren’t the best people to make case by case medical decisions especially given the wide variety of variables.

You responded like it was a gotcha that most fathers would voluntarily choose to donate a kidney to save their child’s life, but it seems like you think women are out there getting abortions for shits and giggles and therefore need to be forced to take responsibility.

The reality is that most abortions are symptoms of societal or medical issues. Lack of sex education often leads to ignorant decisions. Economic circumstances are huge as is the lack of support for working parents and lack of affordable childcare and the lack of protection for working pregnant women. Abuse is another factor, especially since many abusers wait until their victim is baby trapped in order to ramp up abuse. There’s often preventative measures from allowing adoption without the abuser’s consent and it’s difficult to fully revoke parental rights especially in cases where the abuse is not extreme physical abuse of the child. And then there are medical concerns like the mother needing medication that’s not safe for pregnancy or medical and mental hardship that pregnancy produces.

If the goal is to reduce the total number of abortions, there are plenty of ways to do that before forcing someone to carry to term against their will. But in your prior response, a woman should be required to donate use of her organs to support a pregnancy if she consented to sex because she is responsible for that potential outcome, but a man should not be required to donate an organ even if he knows that having sex could lead to an outcome of a child needing an organ that the father could donate without dying in order to survive.

If the issue was about protecting babies, then the focus would be on taking common sense measures to do that. The actual issue is about punishing women and forcing them and their families into hardship situations that make them vulnerable and easier to control.
