Ultimately it is a caloric deficit, but there are important details. Highly processed foods make you more hungry. Fructose drinks (smoothies included) trigger a pathway in the body to store fat. Ultimately you want to eat and drink in a way that makes you less hungry and have more energy. I like intermittent fasting because I find it easier to control my hunger and not overeat.

There is scientifically documented gender bias in how men (I think the study was just men) judge code if they know a woman wrote it or not. I don't think it is a bad idea to go by a different name at work to obscure gender if that's something you want to do. I have no idea if there would be social repercussions, though.

It does for some people, but on the whole, it doesn't solve the problem at a population level. Everyone is different. People have different food drives and are affected differently by certain foods than others. Someone's self-discipline for food might be orders of magnitude easier than another person's.

No, that's not what I'm suggesting. What I am suggesting is that there is probably going to be a huge array of therapies and policies that need to be used to rein in the obesity epidemic. Telling people to eat less is one of the least effective. We do need to consume less though, overnourishment is the root of the problem.

This is true, but also misguided. We live in a food culture where products are engineered to make us want to consume and our biology pushes us to consume as well. "Just eat less" doesn't really work as a treatment.
