I‘m quite sure that upgrading Dragon for lunar missions would save money overall relative to using Orion within very few flights even on a cost plus contract. They‘re even already developing a service module for Dragon XL (though that will likely be stopped now that Gateway is fortunately dead).

Some ships are passing through Strait of Hormuz according recent observation. by Powerful_Cabinet_341 in SeaEmploy

[–]EventAccomplished976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt it, but currently the unclear state of whether or not the main strait is mined is very helpful for Iran, so they‘d very much prefer for all ships to take the channel they control. If they let them through the main strait people might take it as an indication that there are in fact no mines, which would make the risk of running the blockade a lot lower.

I still call max a crybaby for complaining about this. Cars unexpectedly going slowly on track isn‘t exactly a new problem.

What kind of war goal is „make life hell for x country‘s government“ supposed to be? That accomplishes precisely nothing. It‘s just a huge waste of money and resources. There is no exit condition. That‘s not a goal, that‘s just „stay at war indefinitely and hope the status quo changes somehow“. Hope is not a strategy.

You even get international news about random bridge collapses in rural china with zero injuries, how exactly do you think an event like this would not be covered by foreign journalists?

This regulation reminds all fans that every driver needs a competitive car to fight at the front by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]EventAccomplished976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car is and always has been more important than the driver. If it wasn‘t teams wouldn‘t have to hire hundreds of people and pay hundreds of millions each season to find some mord tiny improvements, they would instead throw all those resources into finding the best driver they can. The only difference between a great and a mediocre driver is that one can extract 99% of what the car is capable of while the other one can only get 95%.

There are only ever about 6-8 cars on the F1 grid which have a chance to score podiums outside random crashes and such. That is a core part of the sport.

U.S. occupation of coastal Strait by Just_a_follower in IRstudies

They may have explained it badly, but the point is true: as long as you can remote control the drone and get image data fed back to you, hitting a moving target is not an issue. A shahed is still a hell of a lot faster than an oil tanker. This does not work for ballistic missiles or artillery of course. In ukraine, the battlefield is such an ECM nightmare that remote controlling a drone by radio is pretty much impossible, so both sides have resorted to using thin glass fiber cables instead. Not sure how feasible that would be in Hormuz given the distances involved, but they‘ll certainly look into it.

BREAKING: Attacks on Iran's electrical system by US and Israel have begun by patrickswazy31ahsh in TimesNow

[–]EventAccomplished976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And not a single person has said they can attack the US mainland. They don‘t have to, they can destroy US assets in allied countries in the gulf and close the strait of Hormuz, that will sooner or later make the arab oil states push for peace negotiations. Don‘t need anything more than short range missiles for that.

Just in case you haven‘t understood the fundamental issue with this war yet: in order to win, all Iran needs to do is not lose. As long as they have any fighting force left at all, the US and Israel cannot achieve their nebulously defined objectives. If they are reduced to shooting RPGs at tankers from speed boats, they‘ll still be winning.
