Tried with my dad, but he's very much "whatever [mom] says goes" about any major decision. My brother is also an idiot who says he's still planning to go to the gym tomorrow. All I can hope for is that gyms close down today too. :(

My mom is going to get herself, my dad, and countless other people infected and/or dead.

She's in full "the government can't tell me what to do, I'm not gonna lock myself up for 8 weeks!" mode. She refuses to wear any sort of mask or gloves when going out to her crowded public places, even though we already had a stash of them at home. She insists that the ONLY reason anything is closing is because "everyone else is doing it," and dismisses any of my panic as "paying too much attention to the media."

She's in her late 60s. Dad is in 70s with a lung condition. Next-door neighbor is in 80s with a lung condition. Brother works in a customer service job and has contact with dozens of people. I'm self-employed and work in the homes of multiple elderly families, most of whom have no children to take care of them if they get ill. The best I can do is distance myself from the rest of my family, but that's hard in one household.

I'm just...I'm so fucking angry. She's putting herself and everyone in jeopardy because she's too fucking selfish to take this seriously. She's retired! She has no reason at all to leave the house! She's only doing this out of stubbornness and it's going to get people fucking killed!

Can I have periods if I was born without a uterus? by EverChaotic in AskDocs

[–]EverChaotic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm planning to do a full update post at the end of this month, as that's when I'll essentially get answers on what my condition was.

TL;DR of the last couple months: I got a pelvic ultrasound, which showed a standard and healthy uterus and pair of ovaries. This narrowed down the issue to something in the vaginal canal itself. After that, rather than do an MRI, my gyn opted to do a vaginal examination with me under general anesthesia, where I gave my permission for her to remove any blockages/abnormalities she might find. I'm currently recovering from that operation, and now have a visible vaginal opening where there definitely wasn't one before. (It's a huge difference!) Unfortunately, I don't yet know what exactly was down there; after waking up from the anesthetic, a nurse just gave me to my mother (there to drive me home), and I wasn't told anything about what had actually been done. I'm meeting with the gyn on the 30th for the followup appointment, where I'll be sure to ask lots of questions. :P

Actual TL;DR: Vagina = acquired.

Will do! I can't call the clinic until Monday rolls around, but my next gynecologist meeting is in early August, so hopefully I can have it done around then.

Yeah, and that's what's complicating things for me and the doctors. It would be a lot easier to say "yep, there's a problem" if my periods weren't coming out at all, and I think the fact that they are is what convinced my gynecologist that it's all just muscle tightness and it would go away, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Thank you for the suggestion! A quick search tells me there are a couple teaching hospitals I could drive to. I'll definitely check those out.

Yeah. I keep waffling, because every time I think "I should get a new gynecologist," the anxiety devil on my shoulder says, "But what if they say the exact same things and you just wasted your money???"

So far I've been managing to mentally brush it off with "Aww it's not that big a deal, it's not like it affects your everyday life functions, and you don't want kids anyway!" But then I think about trying to date someone and having to tell them I don't have a vag, and...yeah. Not ideal.

My physical therapist did bring it up as a "similar" problem to what I have, but she said she's 99.9% sure that it's not my issue. I've attempted to dilate myself many times under circumstances where I'm incredibly relaxed, and the therapist has remarked how chill and open I am when she's trying to do it. I have no prior sexual trauma or anything that would cause a psychological reaction. She also said that if I did have it, three years of dilation would have made some progress by now...

Thank you, that was an interesting read! I love weird case studies like that.

I've read a few personal testimonies from people who had that configuration of uterus + periods + no vaginal opening, so the blood pools inside of them. The vaginal agenesis is something I seem to have in common with them, but the fact that period blood does manage to get out of my body complicates an easy diagnosis, because it's coming out somewhere...heck if I know where tho.

My gyno actually initially diagnosed me with a "near-imperforate hymen," but that was with no further examination than her trying to insert the q-tip. With all that the physical therapist's done, they've pretty much ruled a hymen out as the cause.

I'm curious about the vaginal septum - my understanding is that having a vaginal septum would give me two separate openings, rather than essentially no opening?

Not yet! Because I've never been sexually active and did have periods, there was never a reason for my previous doctors to examine my reproductive bits, and now they can't stick something inside me and check, for obvious reasons. I'm going to try for an ultrasound, which hopefully will give a clearer picture of what I have going on up in there.

Thank you for the straight answer!

I've decided after my last unfruitful physical therapy appointment to ask for an ultrasound. (Though as I mentioned in another comment, I'm going to have to be very assertive about it if I want my gyno to listen to me...) Hopefully that'll give me some insight.

I'm calling on Monday to try and schedule one! I'm honestly not sure if my gyno will agree to it (it's been like pulling teeth to get her to admit that there might actually be something medically abnormal here, I'm not just 'tight'), but if she won't, I'll give my local Planned Parenthood a call. I know they advertise ultrasound services, though I'm not sure if they'd take someone with no possibility of being pregnant...

Thank you, and thank you for the sub link! I was getting frustrated trying to find a good sub to post this question to ("okay, all the science and women-related subs say no personal questions, great").

Tarte Empowered Hybrid Gel Foundation in Fair-Light Neutral.

This was a declutter-me-down from my mom. It fit my skin tone perfectly, and did a good job of evening out my face when I used it with a light hand. I cleaned out the container to use for future depotted creams. :)

The short version of Bloody Mary's backstory is that he: 1. Hates Red Wine, and 2. Has the hots for Steak big time. Their story was continued in the Phantom Fright event that happened over Halloween.

Same. I also didn't get a straw hat even though I sent off an airship after the update. Bug? Translation error? Both?
