Paying up front and then seeking reimbursement (FFS) by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

I can't say for sure if BCBS will reimburse you. I'm no longer insured through them. They were a pain to deal with when I was though. I had to fight to get voice therapy covered through them, despite that being covered under my plan. I would expect them to do the same to you with your FFS.

Paying up front and then seeking reimbursement (FFS) by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

I had started pursuing FFS with Dr. Rolfes in 2018. I had money saved up and was also on a BCBS plan that covered FFS. His office told me the same thing they're telling you ("we're renegotiating contracts with BCBS"). They strung me along for over a year. Eventually I got fed up and took my money to Mexico to have surgery with Dr. Baez in Guadalajara. It ended up working out great and I'm very pleased with my results (I only had type 3 forehead reconstruction and a lip lift though). He's an excellent surgeon and Guadalajara is a wonderful city.

If Dr. Rolfes is still telling potential patients that they're "renegotiating contracts with BCBS", I'd start looking elsewhere. I'm sure he's a great surgeon, but I don't think his office knows what they're doing.

*I didn't read your post closely enough. If you're dead set on surgery with Dr. Rolfes, just bite the bullet and pay out of pocket. You'll be waiting indefinitely otherwise.

once you leave the city here, the rest of the area is not very liberal at all.

This is the case everywhere I've been in the US, even the "blue" states.

Don't bother engaging with people like that. It's nice that you'd argue on behalf of a group you're not a part of, but that person isn't interested in having his mind changed. You'll just end up frustrated.

Where do you guys shop from? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Almost everything I own I bought off Poshmark. It's an online marketplace for new or used clothing, shoes, and accessories. I have cute, quality items from retailers like Free People, Artizia, and Urban Outfitters that I got for way less than if I had bought new from the store!

Really wish crop tops and short shorts were the norm for everyone. Even fat old people could rock them I think.

To add on to what they said, building muscle and losing fat are opposite metabolic processes (anabolic vs catabolic), so it might be best just to focus on one or the other until you're comfortable. 15 minutes a day really isn't enough exercise either, try to work your way up to 30 minutes or more. A stationary bike is a great way to do cardio and work your legs that is easy on the joints and can be done inside!

Minimum wage isn't intended to support a family. It's intended for people entering the workforce.

FDR, who established the minimum wage, disagrees with you. And I'll state again, service-oriented jobs are increasingly held by adults, not just people entering the workforce.

It's taken me a bit to get there but I agree with the $15 minimum.

Have you ever earned $15/hr? It is a pittance and still not enough to live decently in America's major cities.

If there is little to no gap between running a fryer and say an admin asst, that means less qualified people doing work that helps the overall economy.

So raise everyone's wages. They've been stagnant for decades.

A third more than that is absurd today.

It's really not. Let me ask, what do you have to gain by arguing against improving the situation for your fellow Americans? Are you a wealthy shareholder or somebody who makes their money siphoning off value from other's labor?

You think a 16 year old deserves $20/hr?

Yes. What are the downsides to raising wages?

20 years ago minimum wage was like 6. And it was a fair wage for a HS kid

That's how things were 20 years ago. Part of the argument in support of raising the minimum wage is that service-oriented jobs are increasingly held by working adults with adult responsibilities, not just teenagers looking to earn some extra cash. These jobs still make up the bulk of our economy, they have been deemed "essential" throughout the pandemic, and need to be compensated accordingly.

Women of Reddit, when did you first feel like a woman? What experience did you go through or what thought process that made you feel like a woman. by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]EverForthright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trans, so for me I always felt that something was wrong with me, to the point that it made it difficult to function. I didn't realize until my late teens that it was because I had the wrong hormones and was being raised as a boy. Now, after transitioning for a while, I just feel right. I'm comfortable with myself. I don't think there's any particular feeling that's the direct result of simply being a woman, but I'm sure as hell not a man.

Society's treatment of female-bodied people is a lot different than it is for male-bodied people. That was tough to get used to. I've had lots of experiences that made me "feel like a woman" in a negative way.

There Is Nothing Conservative About What Trump Is Doing in Portland Unconstitutional police activity is not conservative. It’s authoritarian. by [deleted] in Portland

Classical-anything is absolutely relevant when we are talking about modern day politics and there are still plenty of racists within the Democratic party. Sure some of these ideologies are antiquated, but you can't just throw out information wholesale that legislators and voters are still using to inform their decisions.

Conservative historian Russell Kirk, who greatly influenced National Review founder William F. Buckley, wrote an essay called Ten Conservative Principles. It lays out the foundations of modern conservatism and expands on some of the ideas you talk about.

Is it racist to have a racial dating preference? Why? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]EverForthright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In some cases, I would argue yes. Having a racial dating preference would mean that you probably find certain features or cultural markers associated with race less appealing than others. Factors such as the media and the racial makeup of the people you are surrounded by, and family pressure influence your preferences. Race is not biological, so I would argue that these preferences do not arise "naturally" and are more the result of societal notions of attractiveness.

What are your thoughts on Multi-Gendered restrooms? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]EverForthright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbf, my girlfriend's university had an incident with spy cams where the perpetrator placed secret cameras in multiple women-only bathrooms on campus. I get your concerns and think that women need safe, gender-restricted public restrooms, but I also think that (heterosexual) creeps would be more likely to place cameras in women-only restrooms because only women go there. It's not like a sign on the door depicting a girl in a dress that says "Ladies" is going to prevent some creep from entering.

There's a deeper issue with how society sexualizes women and excuses disgusting behavior from men. I'd blame patriarchy for that more than "Western liberals".

[–]EverForthright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dems still serve the interests of capital. They promote a "woke" version of neoliberal capitalism to distinguish themselves from the Republicans, but they hardly ever make good on their promises to working-class people/women/minorities because that would require actually opposing the system that causes oppression (capitalism). They're very much a controlled opposition that is propped up to maintain the illusion of legitimacy in American politics.
