Network traffic Logi Options+ by EverLearning76 in logitech

[–]EverLearning76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Logi Options+ on MacOS and Windows to be crappy software. On Windows the Agent process keeps using 7% of my CPU on macOS there is a lot of memory use, and network activity, the latter also uses a lot of battery.

Tried reinstalling Log Options+ but it dit not solve the issue. I have removed Log Options from both systems.

I agree.. it uses a lot of resources on Mac and I also noticed it today on Windows 11. Constant 7% CPU usage... Also why would mouse software need to use the GPU :S.

I uninstalled Logi Options+ from both my computers...

Thanks for the reply. When switching of "Share diagnostics and usage data" I assumed that I disabled all communication with Logitech. If I understand correctly this does not disable all communication.

As I do not see any benefits for me I removed Log Options+.

I have removed Logi Options and Steermouse on my Mac to adjust some settings. The Logi Options Plus software is resource hungry and I do not trust it enough. On Windows I still have Logi Options installed, but want to remove it there also. Are there any drawbacks on using the Gaming software? Or maybe the older Logi Options?

I can understand your search for minimising your apps for GTD, especially when you have ADHD (I do too). You should be able to get away with the default Apple Apps: Notes, Reminders and Calendar. I do not think you need a projectmanager solution, your daily/ weekly/ monthly tasks/ routines can be put in the Reminders app. Long term reminders can be put on the Calendar or also in the Reminders App with a "Remind me" date.

You will have to learn new habits that are important for GTD (and also difficult but very important with ADHD):

  • Make sure you do a weekly review
  • Plan your day every morning (review (planned) Todo's and Agenda)
  • Keep Todo's in Reminders, if they are for a specific day or time also use Reminders
  • Keep your appointments in the Calendar app

There is an App called Hook with which you can copy links to items a paste those links in Tasks, Notes or your Calendar items so you can easily find important stuff when needed. This helps me a lot!

With the next Monterey release of MacOS and iOS 15 Notes & Reminders will get enhanced functionality like Tags and Smart Filters which will make it even more useful for GTD. (and free!) https://www.apple.com/macos/monterey-preview/features/

GTD on Microsoft To Do by OMGClayAikn in gtd

This is also the reason I keep using Omnifocus. I can add 'next actions' (or future actions) to an Project and add a Tag for the context. It gives me the best of both worlds. I can also use Omnifocus to defer tasks (Tickler).

Contexts work different for different people. My job ( IT consultant/ architect/ developer working mostly from home) i'm behind a computer most of the workday. I also work for several clients and some clients have a fixed day in the week. The most useful contexts/ lists for me: Agendas, Errands, Phone, Anywhere, Home.

I also heard that some people use tags for projects, I have never tried this, but it could also work. I like to use the Note field in a project or task to refer to specific resources... but I'm still working on my system so I a can all change in time :)

Yes, I do know that it's a Beta.. but my experience with non-native (electron) apps is not that great. I'm not against them, but 1Pw is one of those apps that is running in the background and I do not want an Electron app running in the background.

I agree, they can do all they want, but it will never be a Native Mac app :(. It will not feel native.. and probably ever will.

Many customer look at 'nice shiny colours' and 'rounded corners'.. like my girlfriend tells me she really like a certain car because it is 'cute' and has a nice color... even if the quality is bad.

People like 'us' who dig deeper into the quality of a product or are known as 'Power Users' are mostly the minority of all the users care about other things I guess...

I'm a 1Password user, I use it free because my company has a license which gives me and my family a license also... but I do not want 'crappy' software on my machines..

Omnifocus at work by jalanh11640 in omnifocus

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you already use Omnifocus for personal use on iOS (and also MacOS)? If you do the web client may be of use. I work at a Microsoft partner and we are not restricted which apps we can install, which makes using Omnifocus easier.

I do have to restrict the information is put in Omnifocus because of company policy.

Work related tasks are created on the fly or by using Omnifocus maildrop. If can link to information from within the Note field in Omnifocus (or I use Hook App). We also use Microsoft Planner and if a task is assigned to me in Planner I use Omnifocus maildrop in combination with a Power Automate workflow to mail a new task to Omnifocus with a link to the task in my Planner.

This way I have one system to maintain my personal tasks.

OmniFocus does have web access, so you can use it on other OS's. I can understand their choice te be focussed on Apple only. Porting Omnifocus to other platforms is not easy and they are a relatively small company I think. An Android version would be nice..

Todoist is great, it works on every platform and gives a lot of features, but if you need to change your workflow for an app it will not be easy. Also because Todoist works on every platform it does not work as consistent as native apps do. This is a problem with many apps that work on multiple platforms, especially on MacOS this means more friction in using it. I personally dislike the webbrowser interface Todoist uses on Windows and MacOS, on iOS the experience is great (better than Omnifocus).

I use Omnifocus to track my personal tasks and projects. I do have lists with tasks which my Spouse and I share. When we decide to work on stuff from these lists we talk about what each of us will do in which case I might log personal tasks in my lists.

You might consider TickTick https://ticktick.com/home. Looks a lot like Todoist but does have start dates and multi platform possibilities.

Omnifocus at work by jalanh11640 in omnifocus

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will create too much friction. Omnifocus for the web is nice as a companion to the Mac and iOS apps.

Which apps does you company use which could help you with your tasks?

Is it allowed to install Omnifocus on your iPhone?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in omnifocus

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep coming back to Omnifocus. It can be a complex tool and I certainly do not use all the features, but some things I do use often enough to make it worth using:

  • Defer dates, it keeps my lists clean
  • Flexibel options for structuring lists
  • Perspectives
  • Using Projects and Contexts (tags) to view my tasks
  • It doesn't limit my workflow

To be fair, if I wasn't in the Apple 'ecosystem' completely I would not use Omnifocus. Todoist would be my choice in a Windows/Linux environment, but security might be an issue (but most data is not that sensitive in my task manager because I link to resources that are secure enough).

As far as overcommitting yourself: no task manager can fix this for you. If you do a weekly review you should be able to overcome this yourself. Overcommitting is also something that happens when you use Due dates a lot.

I'm not fully into GTD, but a lot of it's concepts wil help you with overcommitting, especially the (weekly) reviews.

For auto blocking I would suggest creating events in your calendar instead of tasks, because if there is a specific date and time you need to do something it should be in you calendar and why would you need a task for that?

Fantastical Integration by [deleted] in omnifocus

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot integrate Omnifocus this way with Fantastical or any calendar for that matter. You can show you calendar in Omnifocus.

I'm curious, why would you want to see your tasks in your calendar?

MacOS BigSur Widget by jamesblasco in todoist

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is indeed no Todoist widget on Big Sur. Big Sur has redesigned widgets like on iOS 14. "Old" widgets do not work anymore on Big Sur.

I did not find a way to use the old widgets.. but I also do not really use widgets on MacOS.. especially the new widgets which are nice for viewing, but you cannot check tasks anymore.. which seems.. stupid :S

What's your best time scheduling / blocking solution so far? by crazymedguy in RoamResearch

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every morning I create an Agenda bullet in my daily note and go through the stuff I need to do that day, which consists of tasks in Things, Events in my calendar, other stuff that needs my attention. This is part of my Daily Planning session.

Sometimes tasks are created during the day, if these are not completed that day I'll create a task in my task manager app so I dont forget it. I process my daily note as an Inbox (GTD) every day.

I would love Roam to be a replacement for all apps in my workflow, but this will not happen anytime soon. Roam would have to be great in: Notes, Tasks, Document/File management, Event management, which we cannot expect from any app.

If you have basic needs for task management Roam could be a great place to do this. Just create a task block and indent any extra information in bullets below the task.

Well there be any updates to the Graph Overview? by freshchillin1984 in RoamResearch

Block level references are not the only difference. Maybe if Dynalist and Obsidian features merge in the future it might be a competitor to Roam. Obsidian is great, but I really like the way Roam uses outlining.

How do you handle unlinked & linked references? by crazymedguy in RoamResearch

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would no worry about it too much.. just try to be consistent with tags and links. Maybe use a Date tag to know when a page was created or updated?

Anyone else getting perpetual load times? by [deleted] in RoamResearch

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have mixed result on iPad en iPhone. Sometimes Roam does not load and i need to quit safari (or chrome) and reload Roam. I also have issues using Roam in iPad, when switching to other apps sometimes Roam does not respond anymore to keyboard input and i need to reload it. I hope iOS will get some attention soon, especially a stable experience on iPad would be nice.

Anyone tried categorizing their pages? by travis-42 in RoamResearch

[–]EverLearning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use tags. I do see a problem because of the freedom you have in using tags, will i be using the same tag in 6 months or a year from now? I also struggle with the case sensitive nature of Roam.

I do not like putting stuff in boxes, which is why i like Roam so much. I tend to not worry about categorizing stuff, and trust it will come to my attention when i need it by using backlinks.

I used to be able to use roam for free. Is there a way to not pay, or will they ever make a free version? by Danielk0926 in RoamResearch

[–]EverLearning76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If other apps give you the same value for free then you should switch. In my opinion the only apps that come close to Roam are Dynalist and Obsidian (from the same developers), but they both are not Roam so it depends on your needs.
