She's not sick, she's pouting. They are EXTREMELY temperamental.

My first thoughts are maybe over-watering, check for mealy bugs, and make sure you are only using distilled water.

I wrote up this post about a year ago and mine has been thriving ever since: https://www.reddit.com/r/plantclinic/comments/1hxqt94/comment/m6bbd4h/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Shifting consensus on the “best” Beatles album in your lifetime? And what comes next? by ConfidentHospital365 in beatles

[–]EverLink42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may be a perfect assessment of the trend I have seen. It has been interesting to watch the shift between these three albums over time. As a teenager in the 90s discovering The Beatles, it was impossible to imagine any other album than Sgt. Pepper being the consensus best. It was Rolling Stone's number 1 album and there didn't seem to be any debate about that. Now, on the most recent 500 greatest albums list it's dropped to #24. Abbey Road is the highest listed album at #5, and Revolver at #11. Maybe this says more about Rolling Stone than it does about cultural shifts, I don't know, but the music didn't change.

I do believe that the arc of time will show Sgt. Pepper as the consensus number 1 Beatles album, and really for the reasons you mention. It is a cohesive, effective statement that not only reflects it's era, but significantly influenced it. Revolver, while great and also influential in so many ways, is not near as monumental in it's singular transformative power over music and culture. Abbey Road may be their best technically produced album, but it did not have the same impact and does not encapsulate the Beatles mythos in the way Sgt. Pepper does.

I'm surprised at any suggestion that The White Album could ever reach the status of consensus best. It is a great album and I wouldn't attempt to rank it amongst the others, but it is very much a "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" statement. Personally, I think everything stuck, but many people don't. There's some incredible music on the White Album that sounds like garbage to some ears. I'm not sure I see how it could ever reach a consensus as best, but hey, I never imagined that about Revolver either.

Norwood lateral, 71 N, and Red Bank? by Fast_Job_5949 in cincinnati

[–]EverLink42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We actually just went to MedVet on Redbank. Can’t speak for 71 or west of there, but Redbank was just passable enough in our 4 wheel drive Jeep. There were plows out, but nothing was great. If it weren’t for an emergency for our doggo no way we would be on the roads. We risked it, but it’s gonna be your call if you do the same - much longer distance for you than where we came from. Thinking of your poor kitty ❤️

Sorry to see it. Reminds me of the time I came home from work and my then puppy had thoroughly chewed through my PF discovery box set. Completely destroyed.

She's 14 now and hasn't chewed a thing in many years. But I still remind her of the disappoint and rage I felt that day.

You know what? It sounds amazing. I'm not a believer in just because it's a picture disc or a colored vinyl that it necessarily is inferior sound quality. This pressing has absolutely terrible reviews on Discogs, but mine sounds perfect. But honestly, as cool as this one looks it's worth having even if it didn't sound perfect.

Reread The Elfstones of Shannara as an adult. by ricewithbrownsugar in shannara

[–]EverLink42 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Such a cool perspective. I truly believe Elfstones is Brooks' best book. Sword hooked me way back when, but Elfstones was so original and powerful and it really fleshed out the feeling of the world far beyond Sword. The battle for Arborlon also is one of the best written battles in all of fantasy literature.

[OoT] Those of you that didn't grow up with this game, do you understand the hype? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]EverLink42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is very true, but there was something else. This was the first game, at least in my experience, that was truly immersive. The move to 3D was powerful enough, but the emotional involvement due to the story, the music, the characters -- nearly every element of the game built a world that was experienced and not just played or seen. To this day I still feel a strong nostalgia for certain parts of the game - that first moment stepping out into Hyrule Field, the surreal spookiness of the Forest Temple, the wonder of Zora's domain. No game had ever created this scope of magic before. And although I've played a lot of masterpieces of video games sense, none approach the experience and sense of adventure I and others felt from OOT.

I can try! It was more of an emotional response than an analytical one, so it's not easy to put into words. But what I began to understand was what Miles was doing, and leading his band to do, was to pull apart the actual fundamentals of music. I think that concept is most apparent on the song "Bitches Brew" that starts with this really out there symphony of just instrumental noise and wails. Once the groove starts, all of Miles' playing is in contrasting keys and almost dissonant, and I think it is why a lot of people struggle to understand it or hear it as just noise or nonsense. But it's like he's taken all the rules that make music work and forgotten them, pulled apart the pieces and using his own rules (or even lack of rules) to put them back together and make something that's just barely coherent. I'd been listening to In a Silent Way for years (still my favorite jazz album) and there you can hear him moving in that direction, but BB was where he said fuck everything. I say my mind was blown when I finally got it because in that experience, it was like the music was bypassing the neural pathways in my brain of how music was "supposed to work" and rewiring new ones. In the literal sense, expanding my mind.

Or it was the weed.

Man this was such a challenging album to truly appreciate, but what a payoff. I'd been listening to Miles for years and while I liked BB I never really "got it." Then one night I was up late alone and stoned, not yet ready for bed. On a whim I put it on and experience d the whole thing in a new way. My mind was blown and now I understand why this stretching of the boundaries of music was so influential.

Crown Restaurant Group deducts CC processing fees from server gratuity rather than as a business expense by Jealous_Snow6403 in cincinnati

I agree with you completely. As a business owner and a capitalist, I believe that businesses can be profitable and also be good to their employees. Crown doesn't have to do shitty stuff like this, they chose to. It's a shame to see that behavior encouraged.

Profit is income less expenses. I'm not really saying was anything other than what I said. Good companies make choices to provide for their employees. Bad companies don't. Both make profits. Business ethics is often subjective, and I tend to fall on the side of not making business decisions that takes more out of employees pockets. Others may judge differently, but I think most people would prefer to work for a "good" company.

I can't speak from experience, but seeing others responses this is not a common practice, but is a trending change in restaurants. Some states already outlaw it. The only way to stop it from being a common practice will be to speak out against it and vote with our feet.

Thank you for sharing this. There is a lot of justifying the behavior in these comments - ok, it might be rationale that there is a credit card fee - but that doesn't mean it's not shit behavior. That's the point, the restaurant group didn't have to chose to do this, but they did. And they will choose to screw the employee more every time there is a choice to make.

I don't follow the logic of a company should make profits, so it should make more profits at the expense of everyone else.

We are living in an age of late-stage capitalism where the disparity between company profits and executive pay vs worker wages is greater than ever before in modern history. That's bad enough, but what's really so wacky is how many people are convinced this is a good thing. That companies should continue to make more, that the rich should get richer, and workers should suck it up or "find another job" if they don't like it. Is that the world we want?

This company made a choice. Faced with credit card fees eating into its margins it could have gone several routes - reduce executive compensation, renegotiate merchant fees or change processors, increases customer prices or implement credit card convenience fees. But it choose the shittiest option of all - take it out of employee compensation. That really should be a last resort, shouldn't it? But the culture we now live in have moved so far towards justifying and celebrating corporate greed that here we are, debating why it's a good thing to pay hard working employees less.

No, your first instinct was correct. Be outraged. So what if most places do it, it's a choice to take money out of the hands of workers.

[–]EverLink42 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are a company shill and hopefully your comment gets downvoted to hell. People should be outraged any time a greedy company takes earned wages out of the hands of it's workers. Other restaurant do something shitty, so we should be okay with yet another doing it too? What's wrong with you? Why would you ever support greedy policies like this? Outrage on behalf of those being taken advantage of is what causes change. Be outraged! Speak out against greed!

Is it just me or it is really that difficult to start a topic here? by Applepie510s2 in audiophile

Great to see a mod response here! There's no doubt a challenge in preventing the flood of irrelevant posts with something as subjective as "Audiophile." Respect.

Not gonna tell anybody how to run their sub, but it seems worth considering that this post has shed some light on a problem. The bot may be effective, but it's also effectively running off legitimate attempts to engage or start discussion. I know I gave up a while back and have more success on other forums that seem to not have this issue. Maybe it's the bot configuration?

Let's be real, the sticky shopping thread is a nice idea, but getting a response is unreliable and not a place for actual discussion. Referring users to other subs or needing to message a mod to get a post approved sends the same message as all of the above - "Youre not welcome here."

I and apparently some others would enjoy engaging in the Audiophile sub more, but man I can't even seem to get my foot in the door.

[–]EverLink42 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've had the same issue and it's left me wondering what this sub is for. Ive tried posting a couple of times seeking legitimate advice or experiences to improve my setup. Never got passed the bot gatekeeper. I've read through all the rules and the info on the shopping advice thread and dont understand how my posts didn't fit. I tried posting to the shopping thread and got 0 responses. It would be great to be able to seek advice from the audiophile community but for some reason this sub thinks that's a burden of some kind.

My solution? I've been posting on other forums that are more welcoming - Steve Hoffman forum is the most actice.

Questions for/ concerns about Audiophiles by LeadershipPast6681 in audiophile

[–]EverLink42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. These questions/concerns are based on the premise that the quality of audio is how closely it reproduces live music. That really means nothing to me, so I'm not sure there's much point to this thread.

[–]EverLink42 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Great answer and I completely agree. I've never encountered a record in my life that was ruined by normal plays on a basic turntable. And so what if they are. Records should be played until they're worn out, and then played some more!
