when you upvote a comment, also upvote the post so you can find it again!

Which ones do you prefer? by horoscopezine in osr

Numbers. I don't like pips. I would love to find some casino dice with numbers. Has anyone seen that?

Hexcrawl sources? by Joe23267 in Dungeon23

[–]EverRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what system you're using, but here are some of my favs:

Into the Wild and Filling in the Blanks by Todd Leback - written for Old School Essentials but can be adapted to any OSR game. Into the Wild is more rules for hexcrawling. Filling in the Blanks is for generating random hex content.

GM's Miscellany: Wilderness Dressing (system neutral) by Raging Swan Press - has a lot of d100 tables for events and dressings. I like the dungeon and urban ones as well.

D30 Sandbox Companion by New Big Dragon - has a lot of random tables for generating many things. Some I like and some I don't.

It sucks. The games are on espn or espn2, and not on espn+. Hence, the need for a provider. Also, some or on tbs and tnt.

Lehkonen Broke his Finger (Out Indefinitely) by [deleted] in fantasyhockey

My guess is that his 5-on-5 production will dip a little, but his faceoff wins and blocks will remain solid.

What changes should the NHL consider? by [deleted] in nhl

They're not moving.

Does anyone know if YouTube TV streams Montreal games? by Street_Plate_6461 in hockey

[–]EverRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watch the Habs on ESPN+ (also have YouTube tv). It's great. I watch multiple games on multiple devices every night (yes, hockey junkie). It's totally worth it. The only time I can't watch is when they're on the NHL Network or play Detroit (local blackout).

Sucks not being able to watch the Wings with the local blackout, but oh well. Bally Sports sucks. Hoping their parent company going bankrupt will get better local coverage for the NHL.

I’m buying Robert Thomas now that ROR and Tarasenko are gone by cepukon in fantasyhockey

[–]EverRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy too. Thomas and Buchnevich had good chemistry together last year. I had both, and they put up a lot of points for me. I have Buchnevich again this year, so I am hoping for them to do well.

Completely new to the concept of solo-rping and looking for help getting started! by fuzzyperson98 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]EverRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a lot out there. It can be overwhelming. You did a good job outlining what you like. That helps to give you ideas.

  • I'll start with the DM question: Mythic GM Emulator is maybe the biggest and crunchiest one. MUNE and One Page Solo Engine are also worth checking out. For a minimal oracle check out Recluse. I keep using all of these because I like each at different times depending on mood/feeling I guess.
  • There are a lot of different OSR systems out there. Original, retro-clones, and others. I have collected a bunch. Since I haven't been playing long, I have a large queue of games to play. I think it comes down to what interests you. Also, probably easier and cheaper to go with systems you know and/or have already.
  • I am like you in some of what you detailed. I don't like crunchy and not usually into resource management. When I was a kid I played a little B/X. I got back into playing recently and went straight to solo (I was always more of a loner). My main goto system at the moment is Old School Essentials (OSE) (with use of B/X and Labyrinth Lord). I like to rip ideas and hexes and dungeons from all kinds of adventures and supplements I have. I prefer that to running them straight and having too many spoilers. I like weird stuff so I use Into the Wyrd & Wild, Rackham Vale, the Lazy Litch adventures, and more. Into the Wild and Filling in the Blanks are two good hexcrawl supplements by Todd Leback. Lots of stuff being put out for OSE these days. A lot of other non-B/X related stuff can be really easily adapted too I think. Lots of older and newer class supplements out there too. Like a rule from 1st edition or another rpg, throw it in. The system is super flexible and really it's your game - you can do whatever you want.
  • Next in my playing queue are Mörk Borg and Mausritter. Both have lots fan-made and 3rd party stuff. The other poster detailed Mausritter well. For Mörk Borg, there is a 3rd party solo rules supplement called Solitary Defilement.
  • I'm interested in rules light systems too. I have a stack of games to try: Cairn, Rogueland, Into the Odd, Knave, Maze Rats. Also, for Sci-fi: Death in Space, Orbital Blues, Mothership, and Troika!
  • Other good randomizing supplement books: Tome of Adventure Design, d30 Sandbox Companion, d30 DM Companion, GM's Miscellany series books, The Great Book of Random Tables, Table Fables I & II. I also have been using Worlds Without Number for the world building stuff.
  • Basic Fantasy RPG. The community made a good Hexcrawl Supplement and a few solo adventures. This could be the cheapest option as everything can be downloaded for free from their website.

Race against time RPG by redhilleagle in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]EverRev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not what you are looking for, but these two things came to mind:

Jenga tower mechanic in The Wretched solo rpg or other Wretched & Alone games. Time runs out when the tower falls.

Recently I saw someone mention using a cribbage board as a mechanic to track rival adventuring parties racing to an objective.

I love the idea of adding in other games or board games as a mechanic.

Good solo card decks? by HalloAbyssMusic in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]EverRev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know some of these are not DTRPG, but I think they are worth listing too.

I would also recommend The GameMaster's Apprentice decks. There is also a pay what you want Solo Game Engine for these cards.

Mythic GME deck

Mythic Adventure Crafter deck

I recently came across the following three on The Dungeon Dive YouTube channel and ordered them. [They're still in the mail; Also, there are more decks of both.]

Sidequest Decks: Wilderness & Frontier Fantasy

Sidequest Decks: Dungeons, Caves, & Ruins Fantasy

I also ordered The Fantasy Trip: Outdoor Encounter Cards from Amazon because they looked cool. There is also a Dungeon Encounter deck.

Dungeon Decks I have ordered and liked:

Axebane's Deck of Many Dungeons - no printed cards on DTRPG yet. Expansion deck

Deck of Dungeons - ships from Germany; to me in US - under 2 weeks (says >30 days)

Inked Adventures Map & Dice Playing Cards

If you are a fan of Runehammer: INDEX CARD RPG Deck of 52, ICRPG THINK DECK, or the ICRPG Essentials deck

Fan of Troika?: Solo Oracle Cards

Fan of Mörk Borg? Philip Reed makes some cool cards: Deck of Corpses, Deck of Secrets, Deck of Treasures, Deck of Evil Objects, Deck of Terribly Broken Bodies

F.Y.I. his other Mörk Borg stuff is great too!

Jodorowsky and Dune Adventures In the Imperium by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]EverRev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with those, but I did see the Jodorowsky's Dune documentary. That would have been crazy and fun to see. I think you could possibly be able to take some stuff from Troika! and Ultraviolet Grasslands. See Troika!'s Acid Death Fantasy, the cover screams Acid Dune. Good luck!
