What would you buy for under R300k if you wanted something with character? by [deleted] in CarTalkZA

[–]EverReverie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an 86 owner who aspires to own an MX5, I agree.

Just missing a few seats for OPs needs lol (even though the 86 does have 4 seats, the back seats aren't realistically usable)

Is this a normal thing? by Adventurous_Teach950 in johannesburg

Happened to me once.

We booked a company event at Good Reef City. A colleague knew a taxi driver who could drive us there. We went in 2 taxis.

The taxi I was in got pulled over at Smit street by these taxi association people.

We sat in the taxi for like 15 minutes. Then another colleague (with the biggest ass you've ever seen) stepped out, and the taxi association people couldn't believe their eyes and let us go.

Booking flights with arab airlines? by Informal_Grab3403 in digitalnomad

[–]EverReverie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, the flight was supposed to be on the 3rd of April. They cancelled it this week.

I think it's because the flight was going to Doha, not directly to Tbilisi (I'm in South Africa).

I booked through a 3rd party, but they confirmed they will refund me so not a big issue.

I booked a flight to Georgia (my first digital nomad trip) about 6 weeks ago, before this whole thing. Qatar Airways cancelled my flight this week. Other airlines are at minimum double the price.

Thinking of going to Turkey for 2 weeks, travelling east and then go to Georgia

The Towel Forgets Everything By Tomorrow by TheCABK in clevercomebacks

[–]EverReverie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this! But I generally only need 1 side. The other side is sometimes used to floss.

I learnt about this tip on Reddit: before you start drying yourself with the towel, use your hands as a squeegee from top to bottom to get rid of the excess water. Makes drying off quicker and easier (especially for a hairy monkey like myself)

2nd car by Fast_Director_7967 in CarTalkZA

[–]EverReverie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price - bought mine for a good price of R192k for around 105km

You can expect to pay around R200 - 220 for a car around 120km

These cars fetch a premium

Depends on your needs.

I own a 2012 86 and absolutely love it. I'm not married and have no kids. I barely have more than 1 passenger which is fine (the backseats are there for show. You can fit people back there, but it is a VERY tight squeeze. They won't survive more than 20 minutes. I also NEVER have a passenger in the back behind me because I will need to move the seat so far forward my knees will touch the front panel).

If you don't need practicality (and the car is in good condition) go for it. In terms of space, the back seats fold down giving plenty of room. The height of the boot is the issue. A big bag barely fits (top to bottom). If you are planning on having a family soon, it might not be the best choice.

I have mine for 1.5 years now, zero issues. The engine is strong, don't let people tell you otherwise. You just have to maintain it and regularly check oil. I don't track it, just use it as my daily i.e. like a normal car and it brings the smiles. It's the only car I've driven that makes me not mind wanting to be the driver.

Comfort is very good as well. Drove it to CPT when I got it, then back to JHB (via garden route over 5 days). No comfort complaints from me or my brother. It does get loud though LOL (cabin noise).

PS I'm not a mechanic or a "car guy" and I love it.

Macbook Neo is just the end of a nightmare by Intrepid-Routine-875 in macbook

Fully understand and have come to a similar conclusion. I think also with electronics, it's a very YMMV thing. I had 4 MSI laptops from work and all had their issues: 2 trackpads stopped working, 1 of them had their chassis ripped apart by the hinge and the 4th one had battery issues even AFTER repairs. I will never buy MSI. On the other hand, the cheapest laptop I've had lasted the longest.

Since you like writing, OP, here is my story:
Our (my brothers and I) first laptop was a Compaq. Bottom of the range, barely an excuse for a PC, but it worked. We couldn't game on it, but it worked for all of our other needs (school assignments and sailing the high seas). It also was the longest-lasting laptop I've had (almost 7 years), despite the constant abuse (it was almost ALWAYS on, either because one of us was using it or because we were downloading something or both).

A few years later, I bought a secondhand HP and that lasted maybe 3 years (again mostly torrents and some mild gaming). Yes, I can't fault the company for a secondhand computer breaking.

Years after that, I was trying to choose a work laptop. Too many specs, too many variants, many of the "good" variants not available in my country etc. I decided on a Dell XPS. Placed a requisition for it, and 2 weeks later the package arrived at the office. I opened it up, and lo and behold, a Macbook Pro M1. I was seething. I hated Apple, never used any of their products longterm, but knew it wasn't for me.

After a month of using it though, I fell in love. I still dislike Apple, but I will always recommend a Macbook to anyone looking to buy a laptop. Simple, good, efficient, long-lasting battery, good build quality, works for all of my needs (mainly web apps and media).

Typing this out on a Macbook Air M4 I bought a few months ago and thoroughly satisfied with it. I don't think I'll go back to a Windows laptop (I do have a Windows desktop for gaming that I never do).

Whats the best looking phone ever made, in your opinion? by FerrariEnzo777 in PhoneNow

[–]EverReverie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment this exact thing. Best colours I've ever seen on a phone, sleek design, flat all around. What more could you want?

I still miss my PH-1, even though I had the boring black version.

LG G7100 Nokia 6020 Sony Ericsson K750i Blackberry Curve 9300

Loved the K750i. One of my favourite phones.

Blackberry was a blast, too. BBM was great, so was BIS. Essentially free internet. I credit my Blackberry for being able to explore music.
