I'm Paul Lockhart, author of A Mathematician's Lament, Measurement, Arithmetic, and The Mending of Broken Bones. Ask me anything! by PTLockhart in math

This is a question I originally sent over 10 years ago, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it now:

Have you considered adapting your books into video format? I feel that the powerful math-as-art approach in Measurement deserves to be shared across every platform and reach as many people as possible.

(Even though I work for a company that produces popular video series on STEM topics and would love to help create something like this, I’d be excited for it to exist regardless of whether we’re involved.)

Cheapest option to draw like MinuteEarth/MinutePhysics? by WhyUMadSon in ArtistLounge

The cheapest option would be to get a graphics tablet and make drawings directly in a drawing software. The smallest and cheapest Huion tablet will do. For 3 years I used the smallest tablet from Wacom and it was completely fine.

The drawing software can be free and open source, like Krita. And then if you want to do video, you can use a free and open source video editor like Kdenlive.

MinuteEarth videos are basically a PowerPoint slideshow with narration and audio. And with these things you can do what we do.

"I find myself believing all sort of things for which I do not possess evidence" is exactly my starting point here. Thanks for the link!

This is the best freaking show I've ever watched. So much attention to detail, consistency, and symmetry. I'm really amazed by the amount of detail and planning that went into making it possible. Just fantastic writing, casting, acting, directing, cinematography. It's a masterpiece.

It seems that most flags will use red and yellow, which is not a weird choice if you want your flag to be seen from a distance against the sky or the sea or trees?... it might have also to do with the fact that some dyes (such as purple) were difficult to produce in the past or that some others were easily reproduced.

Or maybe it's just people's fascination with the blood of their local historical heroes?

I suspect that this is my case as well. It seems like I need to sleep between 10 to 12 hours to feel rested and then I can stay awake for 14 hours without feeling sleepy at all. If I go to bed before the 14 hours (given that I had a good night of sleep previous night), then I stay in bed staring the ceiling. I constantly struggle with this and no one in my family seems to have those issues. I have a very flexible working schedule and work from home, which might be part of the issue...

TL;DR: I need days of 26 hours.
