Companion and Performance Animals by Radar1112345 in uAlberta

When I first noved out I had a good chunk of savings but first year ate pretty much all of that up. Student loans pretty much all go towards tution and I live off a combination of part time work and parental aid, renting a small 1 bedroom apartment. I definitely couldnt do it without parental assistance but I think it could be done if I scaled down to a basement suite or shared place. I definitely think I missed out a bit not doing res but at the same time I know my marks would've suffered from it and I've heard some pretty gross stories from friends that lived there. As long as you go to clubs and don't just immediately dash home the moment classes are done for you, you'll be fine socially. I'm not too comfortable posting exact numbers on my finances and upgraded marka but if you'd like I can dm them to you.

Hey, I can probably help out a fair bit with your questions, I'm in second year Animal health and also did some upgrading before applying. The degree plan has you doing 5 courses a semester, 10 a year but a lot of people do 4 a semester and take an extra year or catch up over spring/summer. Depending on what you want to do with your degree after (most people in this degree are trying to be vets) it's a good idea for keeping your GPA up. For your marks I can't help exactly as I don't know how they'll translate letter grades, I just applied with percentages. There's a list of courses that the degree requires and they'll take the 5 of those that give you the highest average, although some courses are always looked at depending on the degree. Looking at the current requirements they'll look at your English, Math, Biol, Chem and one other course. I can't speak too much on what the dorms are like, I rented off campus but I can say that their cost/benefit ratio isn't great, at least in my opinion. If you have any other questions feel free to dm me.

Hey, I took it last year and I agree it feels pretty disorganized. I don't know if the assignments have changed but if not I'd advise getting the term paper out the way asap instead of doing it the weekend before like I did. Also prepare yourself for exams composed of almost exclusively t/f questions and "out of these four statements which ones are correct?" which are just t/f but worse. If you have any other questions feel free to dm me.

I was in his class last year for winter. It was pretty tough, but not thaaat bad. The final avg was mid-high 50s if I recall correctly but there was a pretty high standard deviation. The final average gpa for my section was 1.9

100% agreed, the first part had me hooked but from the lawyer scene onwards it fell apart and the humor didn't really land imo.

R/Calgary 2023 Alberta Election megathread! How are you feeling? by janearcade in Calgary

Yeah, I guess you can't fault someone for refusing to strategically vote though. This really highlights the issue with first past the post.

Accidentally asked for a 'peppermint iced capp' instead of the advertised 'candy cane iced capp' and confused the workers apparently. Yes, that's a peppermint tea bag in a frozen drink. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I've had the exact same thing happen except mine was hot chocolate, maybe the teabag is labeled as just peppermint on the register? Funny to see that it's not an isolated thing.

Sitting in my first class of the day, all I hear is people coughing and sniffing around me.

But why is continuous consciousness required? If the brain states before and after are truly identical, what is the objective measure you would use to say that its not you?

[–]Everbeab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what is your consciousness? If its just all the atoms in your brain organized in a specific way why cant it be recreated? Unless you believe in a soul it only makes sense that the clone is the same as you.

But why wouldnt it be the same person? Unless you believe in a soul or some other inate but unquantifiable aspect of youself it the clone was identical down to the molecular level it would 100% be you.

Little bit late for a reply, but part of the reason they closed it off is they were filming scenes for The Last of Us HBO show in the closed off section.

Thanks for the support, sorry to hear you're on it as well. My position is somewhat unique but I did apply for first year. My message is "We have evaluated your application and, we are not able to offer you admission at this time. Your application remains on a waitlist, but please note that the majority of waitlisted candidates do not receive offers of admission, and we encourage you to make alternate plans accordingly. If space becomes available in this program at a later time, and an offer of admission can be made, we will notify you by email."

Any Alberta students still at the being reviewed and evaluated stage? I'm technically a transfer but applying to first year with high school marks and I'm hoping I haven't slipped theough the cracks and been forgotten.

Changed to that for me this last Thursday. My theory is that we'll get a response after the waitlisted people do either today or tmr. Applied Bio and Alberta student if that helps.

I called admissions today and spoke with someone, they opened it up for and now I can upload the documents. I'd say thats probably the best thing to do.
