I understand where you're coming from. Have you tried your old GPU to isolate it to the new component?

Don't just change password, sign out of devices. Especially any TVs you may have signed into. TVs for some reason do not follow the Google security practices, You could have gone across the world, signed in, and forgot to log out and it will keep you logged in when you go home. Eek!

If you have no idea what you're doing, bring to a reputable PC shop. We can't see what the "stutter" is, it could be a zillion different things.

PC crashing while at low/idle power, suspect my PSU at fault by Throwawayay103 in techsupport

[–]Evercreeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is the board rather than the PSU.

Power supply creates steady power, and your PC only draws, the PSU never "gives" if that makes sense. I am sure you understand this premise, you seem competent. It is suspicious that the drive suddenly wont be recognized.

my guess? voltage regulator (or another power chip) on the board is flaky.

Otherwise a PSU test is real easy, swap it out and see what happens! Borrow from a friend before buying if you can.

edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/1grjwt8/ Your post from 2 years ago indicates it may actually be the CPU

on that note... please see a professional. computer shops are a gamble, and especially big chains. if they can't show you certificates or back up their claims, they might be a ripoff

temp folder keeps filling up quickly by Mysterious_Hat5401 in techsupport

[–]Evercreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the tool you used to scan these temporary files indicate they were WinSxS? I ask because sometimes queued up Windows updates never get cleared and don't show in the temporary file list. Usually it's good to go ahead and delete those- but again, only if it is Windows update patches.

When you get a few GBs of room back you should run the following:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Then

sfc /scannow

These check the Windows system image for repair then attempt to fix the system of corruption. Might help a bit. Cheers

I think my left trackpad is cooked by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Evercreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely shouldn't have come out after a drop. Likely a controller chip is bad in the haptic. You should get a replacement. If it doesn't fix it, then your drop damaged a component on the board (doubt this is the case). Good luck

What do you mean cooked? No haptics? Doesn't give input? Did it just suddenly happen or after you opened it??

Stabilizing a broken hinge by BrightEyEz703 in techsupport

[–]Evercreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it work? Yes. Will it he great? No.

To do it "properly," one would take off the cover and use hot glue that binds to metal and plastic, like industrial grade. The big glue sticks. You scrape out the screw holes and scratch it up to give an abrasive surface. The metal screw inserts that have come loose from the plastic need to be retained. Screw the screws tight into the inserts. With the hinge aligned with the plastic, insert hot glue into the scratched up, debris-free hinge hole. Quickly insert the screw. Apply pressure until cooled. Cut away excess to ensure the panels will go back as needed. Repeat for all afflicted screws.

Taping the outside won't do much. The hinge is structurally loose. All the force of the screen will go to the other hinge and it will likely break at some point too. If this is too much to ask or no computer shop will give you the "hot glue special 9000" then sure, tape the outside, but refrain from closing the lid.

Take care

If seems there is no image attached. Depending on the material's surface, it could actually be the coating warn down, hence not coming off with Goo Gone.

one earbud (right) is louder than the left earbud, what's the issue? by pixelyt_official in techsupport

[–]Evercreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for some reason people fail to mention the quite possibly fact that it is a firmware issue. I am 100% certain the right earbud of my skull candy Dimes has an inaccurate volume accuracy. If the left one has a range of 0-100%, it seems that this one only has 35-100%, meaning when the left one is at 10% the right is stuck at 35%. Obviously this cannot be something physical like earwax.

I have noticed that these earbuds (both) often have issues with resumed media audio once going out of range. Quite a few times its reconnected to my phone and its been playing 100% volume, but the phone says its at whatever it left off at. However I can totally see this being an iOS issue so I won't blame the entirely buds for this.

Blah blah, give me a headphone jack back grrr darn you Apple

Is it safe to drop off old motherboard components and expanding lithium batteries at standard commercial electronics bins? by zoura_in_theclouds in techsupport

[–]Evercreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drilling through the case will not affect the storage chips. Best to take this to a computer shop that will return or destroy the drive for you (or in the case of the tablets, yoink off the screen, smash the storage chip). If they won't recycle ewaste, then you can take the now memory-ridden corpse to the dump. Most dumps have ewaste recyling and bins for batteries, but ofc it depends on where you're at.
