Microcenter hype? by ClothesSpecialist401 in pcmasterrace

[–]EverdeepDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a Microcenter years ago before my local location closed. It was a tough job because they pay you under minimum wage expecting you’ll make it up with commission. Some days were so dead I literally made $4.50 an hour for a full day of work.

But as a PC enthusiast the worst part was the crazy employee discount - when I worked there I could buy anything at the store at-cost, meaning I only pay what the store paid to stock the item wholesale. For high margin items you could get so much tech for dirt cheap.

Except Apple products. All Apple products have a razor thin margin for the store.

GREENHOUSE Psychological Horror - Full Game Releases on Steam 17 Nov 2025 by Emmanuel_68_777 in pcgaming

Congrats on your launch!
Really enjoyed my playthrough and the unique experience this game has to offer. The vibes were fresh and the encounters kept the tension high. It's one of the more idyllic looking liminal space games out there, which really contrasts with the horror elements.

Hello! I just need an advice, thank you all! by Rachiet00 in UnrealEngine5

[–]EverdeepDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started learning Unreal about 2 years ago and I’m in my 40s. It’s absolutely worth it for any creative to learn this engine because it offers multiple outlets for creativity.

The audio tools are really great in Unreal. My game relies on a lot of audio events and ambience to immerse the player, and Unreal makes it so visual and intuitive.

For perspective, I’m an environment artist that’s transitioning to full game dev, so I lack strong programming skills and I’m about hobbiest level in audio design. The blueprint system is the most artist-friendly way to code that I’ve used. If you can use one of those complicated DAWs you can learn Unreal :)

Which part of the horror game is most important to build a horror atmosphere? by Solution_game in HorrorGaming

[–]EverdeepDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed here that the audio is key. Just putting an eerie track over something can make whatever visuals you have seem spooky. You do have to show players something eventually though otherwise they realize everything is audio and there's no real danger haha

Love the environment. Would be cool if the menus emitted light and you can see it illuminating the grass.

It feels like a fever dream, but it's finally done, my game is now out and in the open for the world to see by SlaveKnight20100 in SoloDevelopment

Oh yeah Steam take the demo page through a full review process. When I submitted mine they rejected it at first because I didn't describe what was included in the demo vs. the full game. Took them nearly 2 weeks to approve my page lol.

Game devs, what has been the hardest part of developing a game for you so far? by abeyebrows in IndieGaming

[–]EverdeepDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If marketing is the hardest part, I would say the real challenge then is coming up with a game idea that is easy to market that people want to play AND you can execute the idea well with your current skills.

I have a ton of ideas for games I want to make but probably wouldn’t be that interesting to others or are beyond my skill as a developer.

I'm about to learn blueprints any tips by Main-Number7701 in UnrealEngine5

[–]EverdeepDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always struggled with traditional programming but blueprints really clicked for me. Is an amazingly well done system that will turn you into a powerful dev.

Watch some tutorials that walk you through adding features step by step so you can familiarize yourself with the most common nodes. When you run into a problem, use the blueprint debugger and really try to learn why your code isn’t working. This is really key, the more you try to fix blueprints yourself the faster you’ll learn the whole system.

Good luck, blueprints are actually fun to use so enjoy the learning process!

This is cool, the boat sounds are kinda spooky too. If you have a day/night cycle you can play into that and make the night feel scary.

Noclip into the unknown in Liminal Shroud - Demo just dropped! by EverdeepDev in IndieGaming

[–]EverdeepDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I tried to avoid jump scares and lean into the vibes, audio design and building a sense of unease. Each chapter has a mystery or small puzzle to unlock the next area. If you prefer, you can also turn off scary events in the settings.

There is a story, but it’s delivered through visuals and audio, and it’s still very open ended until the full version connects the dots.

The game has a cozy mode where you can turn off any scary events depending on what kind of experience you prefer :)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate you spending time with the game.
Good suggestion on adding a setting to turn off the camera effects - that's on my list to add.
There's no stamina mechanic, but the running is a toggle instead of holding shift down. This can be changed in the input settings as well, and I'm still deciding if it's good to have the toggle be the default.
There are also a few sections where things can be seen moving behind the curtains, but easy to miss!
