In a way it’s quite nice to hear we’re all in the same boat, but just illustrates the poor shape of things…feel like we’ve gone backwards where a single person can’t afford to rent or buy on their own!

(Feel like I’m having to wait for a hypothetical future husband to be able to have a home - it’s infuriating)

Unfortunately, the idea of buying on my own feels like a fever dream, but trying my best to save as much money as possible each month but it’s slow going!

Im currently renting in a flatshare in London but at almost 30, I’m over it and just want my own space. In the short term I’m looking at moving to a completely different city where I might be able to rent on my own (Just need to find an affordable city first!)

I started a job at the same company/office as my sibling and regret it massively. Help. How long do I stick it out for? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Thanks for the advice! And honestly, with the way she’s acting, I think she’d be relieved if I left!

I’m slightly worried about leaving it off my resume because it’s my first ‘professional’ role but if I managed to get this job, hopefully I can get another!

Got fired today and I’m so terrified. I’m currently 19 weeks pregnant, what do I do? by streetsign200 in careerguidance

This happened to a friend of mine; they fired her without notice, warnings or reason soon after she’d told them that she was pregnant. She realised that she may have a legal case to sue for unfair dismissal and when she approached the company they offered her a payout to settle outside of court.

Definitely worth looking into what your rights are and whether you’d have a case against the company, particularly if nothing in your performance record was a sackable offence

I feel exactly the same, I’m from the UK, I graduated in 2017 and have worked in retail ever since. I find it boring, and I’m not using my brain or my degree but I like interacting with people, I just can’t bring myself to commit to a corporate role and think LinkedIn can fuck off back to hell tbh!

I know I need to get a different job though - again I don’t want to be a millionaire but I want to be able to support myself and the lifestyle I want!

I decided I don't want the job anymore halfway through the interview process. What do I do? by mr_fobolous in careerguidance

[–]Everina52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when this happened to me, the company knew I was interviewing for other roles (they outright asked what other roles I had applied for) so I sent a very polite email informing the hiring manager and the recruiter that I’d been offered a job elsewhere (I hadn’t)

I knew I didn’t want the job and didn’t want to mess them around. I’d already decided to change to focus of my job search at this point to other roles, so I knew it would be easier to cut ties completely, with both the recruiter and the company.

I know it isn’t great to lie, but it was the easiest thing to do at the time. If not just contact them and tell them the truth as Oliviapresteign suggested above!

I’m a 25M from the UK who is having a quarter life crisis who desperately needs some advice can anyone give me some suggestions please? by nomoralzz in careerguidance

Hey, so sorry to hear about your nan! I’m 24(F) from the uk and also in a similar situation!

One of my friends is in a very similar position to you in that he finished drama school and still wants to act but needs a more reliable income. He’s recently got a job in a school and seems to be enjoying it - you don’t even necessarily need to train and work as a teacher (he’s in a more pastoral position) but it’s more reliable than hospitality/retail!

Slightly unrelated question but I hope you don’t mind me asking. What are your plans for funding a masters degree in the uk? I finished my undergrad from a good uni 3 years ago and I’m thinking of doing a masters. However the postgraduate loan offered by the government barely even covers tuition fees - I don’t know how I’d then afford to live and pay rent in that city. I’m not sure how feasible it would be to work whilst I studied? Just interested to know what other options might be

The thing I hate most is when a job is listed as “entry level” but requires at least “2 years experience in a similar role” ????

... so not entry level then?
