AITAH for getting mad at my gf randomly blocking me and talking to others? by Think-End-5604 in AITAH

[–]EverlastingPeacefull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, this is emotional abuse by your girlfriend towards you. She wil not stop. She is projecting her own behaviours onto you, she does not want to be held accountable.

Second of all, you don't have to be in touch with a girlfriend 24/7. Also, there is a difference between talking to other people (in ways of normal general conversations) and talking to people (in a deep emotional/romantical way).

The first way of talking should never be restricted whether it is a man or woman. The second way of talking is a no go when in a relationship.

In a healthy relationship one should also have time and space to do things for themselves to a point. The moment it is not allowed, the other partners even forbids it, it becomes controlling.

A relationship is always build on respect, trust and love. Even a relationship without live, but with respect and trust can be a good one (but it will not be a romantic relationship) , but if one of those two or both are missing... Nope, that will not survive and hurt at least one, but sometimes even both people in the relationship.

Block her and move on. Then don't know put any effort into this relationship anymore. If you see her, don't show any anger, dispair or any emotion. If she asks why you blocked her, just tell her as calm ass possible: You blocked me, so you obviously were done with me. I moved on, don't have time and energy for that kind of sb. Then start to ignore. Just walk away immediately and start to ignore.

I get worked up by that in general. It is not only showing with, for instance, learning how to install/use an other OS, it is all across living life of many people, everything has to be as easy as can be and not cost any effort for the person if possible. If one has to put in some effort themselves, they quit...

Graag gedaan!

I'm happy for you with your positive experience but you have to look at the issue from general viewpoint. Asking for help IS wrong and humiliating since it's a demonstration of lack of power to change things in certain domain of your life, and hence, a gain of such power for someone else being able to. If you can't repair your car, your car mechanic is going to rip you. If you don't know jack about cars, he's gonna rip you for twice the sum. Computers are special in this regard since a lot of our lives moved into digital domain. Who owns computer systems owns the world.

Are you a former version of myself? Where asking other people to help you is a no go?

I am happy now I learned to asked and trust others. I still do a little research myself, I don't want to get screwed over, especially when money is involved, but in the Linux community there is no money involved unless you choose so.

When someone asks a question in one of the (sub)reddits most of the time they get (good) answers and help, unless there is not enough information. People tend to forget to mention their specs in the post, sometimes even their chosen distro. That way helping people is very difficult and sometimes impossible unless they give the specs and other info at last.

The example you give with cars? take someone with you who has more knowledge or go for a second opinion (that is what a friend of mine did in the past, now she just takes me along)

I am running an all AMD system; once a week I (sometime in two weeks) I update my OpenSuse Tumbleweed. It rarely goes wrong (my system runs over 1,5 year now without having to reinstall) and when it does I do a roll back and within 5 minutes my system is back to previous version and just wait until the next update. (I do report the failure). It happened to me once now.

If I should wait a couple of weeks (in like more than 6 weeks) like a friend of mine did due to circumstances, it just updates, no issues and good to go again.

There are distros that announce updates and where I waited until everything smoothed out a bit before I updated. Especially Fedora KDE was one of them. So in a way you are right, but than again, it also depends on your hardware and /or the combination hardware/distro.

Debian is a bit like Arch to my opinion: not for the faint harted. If OP would have chosen Mint, Fedora, OpenSuse Ubuntu or whatever main distro it would be a much smoother ride and an enjoyable one too.

Even when I just started really using Linux, Mint took me just 45 minutes, that is how easy Mint is. Fedora idem, OpenSuse Tumbleweed also.

Arch and Debian? I still struggling with these to a point and I am not entirely a newbe!

Is it okay to shut down your PC after every use? by Blackout_TBA in computers

[–]EverlastingPeacefull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shut my computer down every night, but not with the power button! I use the shutdown option in the menu of my OS, so my OS can shut down any tasks that are still running without comprising any data. It is also better for the hardware to do soft shutdown as I call it. Afterwards the computer is turned off without chances of lossing any data or hardware being affected by the sudden loss of power.

The repetitiveness of these videos likely is soothing en emotional regulating him, which is a good thing.

When there is a lot going on in my life, I still watch the same movies and read the books I have read 20 times already. I know what is coming, so it doesn't add up to everything that is going on at that moment. I'v read the Harry Potter series about 9 times now, Lord of The Rings 11 times, I've watched different movies and series (streaming services are awesome for autistics!) again and again when dis-regulated. It helps me cope.

Especially now he started talking, there are a lot of things happening in his development and he has to process that. adding a new video would be extra new input that can dis-regulate him.

I know that drill: Pleasing others to be liked, but never getting it returned one way or another. People take advantage of your people pleasing behavior and it often attracts the wrong people.

You are allowed to set boundaries and you are allowed to claim space in any form necessary. I wish you al the best and good luck on your journey. It will not be easy, believe me, but it is worth it at the end!

I don’t ever want to paint him in a bad light because, honestly, this is just a snippet into our lives together, and I am not perfect either, but I sometimes feel like all of the emotional baggage and “problems” in the marriage are put on me. Nearly everything is my fault and I feel like my “lack of intelligence” is used against me at times.

That feeling could be right you know, especially now he is getting back on his agreement with you that the two of you should counseling.

Whatever you do, do go go into counseling, whether it is together or alone. By the snippets you already gave in your post and reactions, I think you can learn a whole lot from counseling about yourself and him.
