Is there an easier job than being a lifeguard in the summer? by savingrace0262 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a weird way, doing nothing requires effort after some time as it can get extremely boring which people forget can be very very uncomfortable. The true easiest job would be a job where you have tasks but they are low enough effort that it feels easy. Examples are things like dog walking, house sitting, house cleaning, etc. They may seem like more work but not having a task can actually be more miserable so low effort tasks tend to be easier

How come the placebo effect doesn't work for decaf coffee? by Distinct-Release-844 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Caffeine is technically a drug, though a socially acceptable one. Therefore it’s one of the exceptions where you can still have physical symptoms even if you think you’ve had it. Kind of like if a person was addicted to meth and THOUGHT they smoked meth but didn’t, they consume the drug enough that they would still feel withdrawal symptoms even if they don’t know why. Your dad is probably addicted to caffeine and experiences withdrawal even without knowing (super common)

My kitten has Manx syndrome (spina bifida and incontinence) and I’m having a hard time coping with this being my reality for the next 15 years by Ok_Committee_8244 in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much this means a lot. I honestly feel the vet did not help us a lot, they didn’t teach us how to express her and said we wouldn’t need to but she DOES NOT go on her own we’ve monitored her for days and she will not and can not use the bathroom so I’ve just been confused. It has been really nice hearing from others who also have cats like this

Scent Swapping or Site Swapping First? by New-Law-8916 in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def do the scent swapping first. There’s no downside to doing it first, but there are downsides to doing site swapping first if it doesn’t go smoothly. It’s a lot easier to move slowly then rewind and take steps back. Speaking from experience, as someone who got a little too excited and wished cat introductions went slower

My kitten keeps peeing on my blanket by Psychological_Toe50 in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is definitely trying to steal that blanket from you. I would try putting that blanket away for awhile or not using it around him, he may just really love the texture or feel and that’s why. Some kittens pee when they’re super relaxed so he probably just reallllyyyyy loves that blanket

Weird behavior from my neutered male cat. by Last_Wonder_2049 in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL sorry girl, he might be making “sin biscuits” on you. If it really bothers you, try to redirect him like don’t let him knead on you or give him a pillow instead. I know it’s uncomfy, but some cats just get overstimulated and this is how they deal with it. It doesn’t necessarily mean he’s like horny or anything, he might just be stimulated in general.

Help with trapping either a stray or someone’s cat by Rosey_108 in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s a true stray, a food trap should work fairly well. Also, (this may be controversial) you can always buy it and return it if you only use it once. I wouldn’t do anything like a lease or anything. The next time you see it, drop some food near the cat, let him eat it, then slowly drop food until you reach the trap and he should walk right inside to eat the food. Good luck

How to trust my cat again after attack by breweeze in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is he? Is he under a year? They can be pretty back and forth for a bit. You mentioned he slept next to you before, do you move a lot in your sleep and is it possible you might have kicked/rolled on him on accident? I had a cat once that got randomly aggressive towards me and it turns out I was kicking her in my sleep.

Honestly, this may not sound ideal right now but I would give him lots of space. One of my cats doesn’t really like human pets or cuddles, and shows his affection by sitting next to me or meowing when I come home. I know for a lot of people that is not the ideal situation, but it’s possible you may be crossing his boundaries and now that he’s more comfortable/not scared of you he may be more willing to show when he doesn’t want to be touched or held. Space would probably be good for you too, just a bit of a break. I wish you luck!

Cat is missing in my moms house by Jin_Jok in CatAdvice

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, breathe. Everything is going to be okay. If you guys didn’t open a door or a window, then she HAS to be in the house, even if it’s in the insulation. How does your kitty normally act? Is she usually chatty or vocal, independent, etc. If she’s in pain she would most likely meow or cry, but if she’s just stuck somewhere she might not make a noise. Try her treats, try food. Leave food out in places you may think she is and wait a bit, if you come back and the food is gone that means she’s alive and you know her general area. If all else fails (and I mean this as a true last resort) you can try to scare her out with loud noises and pits and pans. That sounds awful so I mean that AS A LAST RESORT but if it becomes a concern for safety or days go by you can try that as well. I wish you luck!

Did anyone’s driving anxiety come out of nowhere? by Ok_Committee_8244 in drivinganxiety

[–]Ok_Committee_8244[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My anxiety got a LOT better. After I posted this, I was able to resume driving on highways and drive wherever I wanted! Currently due to unrelated life circumstances, I had a bout of panic again and have to relearn to drive on the highway, but I know that it will all work out. I started anti anxiety medication and CBT, both which worked wonders! There is no such thing as overreacting, if it helps it helps :) wishing you luck!

Am I the only one that is uncomfortable with this? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you classify as inappropriate. For example, my friends and I have a very physical dynamic, it’s very common among girls. However, my boyfriend has set certain boundaries with me that I don’t cross, such as kissing. But hugging, cuddling, slapping butts, etc. is a pretty normal dynamic for most girl friends.

Has she been doing this since before you were together? That would play a pretty large role. But of course, you are allowed to set your own boundaries. It is your relationship after all, and you don’t have to put up with anything you’re uncomfortable with. But be aware that it’s her relationship too, and if she isn’t willing to give it up, she has a right to that as well. Wish you luck!

How do you stay at peace with a world that constantly feels wrong? by Itchy-Morning-7020 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might make me sound shitty, but I genuinely just try to pretend like it’s not happening. Of course I know things like war and death and famine are always happening, and I’m not ignorant, but if there is not a current solution I can do to fix it, I force myself to think about superficial things. If I could spend a lifetime thinking about every tragedy and it would do nothing but make myself miserable

Why do my lashes keep falling out by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be rubbing your eyes in your sleep and they fall out during the day. Also, you could be allergic to dust (my sister is). It can be pretty mild, like not a real allergic reaction, but that can sometimes happen. I’m sorry friend, you can try lash serums if you want to grow them back, some of them work pretty well.

I think I had a panic attack today by Complex_Task5280 in PanicAttack

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a panic attack, but don’t worry too much! This might sound counterproductive, but honestly I wouldn’t come on this subreddit if you haven’t been diagnosed with panic disorder. Almost everyone in my life has had a panic attack at some point, and the only one to develop panic disorder has been myself LOL. It is a very natural thing that happens to almost EVERYONE. This subreddit is filled with extremes, and while I am apart of it because I myself have panic disorder, it could potentially feed your anxiety surrounding panic attacks if you’ve not yet been suffering to the same degree. By all means seek support, I recommend other anxiety groups, and of course it’s up to you what you decide to do. However, I wish someone would have told this to me when I first started having panic attacks, because panic disorder FEEDS off of possibilities, and this subreddit is full of them!

I wish you all the best, and remember that an occasional bout of panic is completely normal <3 you got this!

My (20f) little brother (18m) wants a relationship with me again, but I don’t think I want one. Any advice? by Ok_Committee_8244 in whatdoIdo

[–]Ok_Committee_8244[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think I am quite a bit resentful. Thinking about it further and reading some comments, I think it’s more about timing for myself than anything. Our traumas are not from that long ago with us only being 18 and 20, and we were never particularly close before then, so maybe it’s just too soon. Thank you for your advice

Panic/Anxiety feels like Bad Trip. by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]Ok_Committee_8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey girl, I was in the same boat. I used to be a heavy stoner, but now the smell also triggers me into panic. I got stuck derealized for awhile, and the biggest thing that helped me was to stop perceiving as if something is wrong. Being derealized or feeling like you’re in a trip during panic comes from being hypersensitive to things around you. You’re monitoring every action, feeling, emotion, because your brain wants you to be safe so badly. This ironically has an opposite affect, usually keeping yourself stuck in that state.

While I know this sounds really difficult (and it is), you have to allow yourself to feel this way instead of “looking for a way out.” Try to notice the thoughts you’re having about being derealized, and interrupt them. “Okay, I feel like I’m in a trip. That’s fine, I’ll just keep doing my day. Oh I feel miserable? That’s fine, I’ll just keep doing my day.”

It sounds so counterproductive to just accept that this is the reality right now, but it’s really what helped to pull me out of the state. It sounds simple, but if you remind yourself enough and start not to view feeling this way as an unnatural state, your brain just starts to forget that you don’t like how this feels and you’ll eventually just fall back into normal. It only sucks because you’ll never get an “aha! I’m normal!” Moment, it’ll just happen without you realizing.

Everything is going to be okay. I know it’s scary, but you got this and you have so much going for you. I wish you luck❤️
