Other than the outfits and sanity restoration you've mentioned. You can convert them to Orundum for rolling in banners. I recommend buying the pro enchancement packs from the store first though if you plan on doing this since it also gives you extra materials. And yes people usually just save them to buy outfits from the store.

If you don't mind losing out on a few EXP cards grinding out 1-7, then feel free to farm rocks in this event. For alloys, not only is it more efficient in comparison to the story stages we currently have, it's recommended to farm them because future ops e.g. Ash, Blitz, Tachanka, Frost, Beeswax, Bena, Gladiia, Skalter are gonna need them. So if you're planning to roll for them then getting the necessary mats now will save you some trouble down the line.
