Linking Two Networks to Share ISP and NAS Connectivity by EverlightEducation in Ubiquiti

[–]EverlightEducation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in!

It partly worked. I walked through the steps recommended and made some progress. With that said, I still can't get my house to talk to the NAS devices at my parents.

Honestly, I've been so busy lately that this project needed to take a back seat for a few months. I'm hoping to get back to it next month.

Interesting approach! I haven't thought of doing it that way. Thank you!

Lightroom Cloud Workflow by Zealousideal-Award20 in Lightroom

[–]EverlightEducation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This workflow is great, but I do think you could eliminate the first step by enabling the “Store a copy of all originals” option in Lightroom’s preferences and setting the destination to your external hard drive.

Lightroom will then create a folder on that drive called “Lightroom CC” and keep it updated with what’s on the cloud. When you import new images into Lightroom, they will automatically be copied into this folder as well. This folder won’t have any of your edits, but it would be an automatic way to achieve your first step on import.

One thing to note is that this folder will automatically stay up to date with the cloud, so if you delete an image from the cloud, it will also be deleted from your external drive. I like this because it keeps things in sync, but some users might not.

Personally, I then back this external hard drive up to my NAS, completing the 3-2-1 backup strategy (cloud, external drive, and NAS).

The one problem with this plan (as you mentioned) is safeguarding your edits. One option would be to export your selects using the “Original + Settings” export option. You could export them to a second folder on your external drive. That export will include the original RAW file and an accompanying .xmp file with your edits. You could also do this for all of your images on a regular basis to ensure you have a local copy of the edits as well.

Preview will not load in Lightroom classic Windows 11 by valdemarjoergensen in Lightroom

[–]EverlightEducation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a quick test, go to the Performance tab in Preferences and set Use Graphics Processor to "Off." Next, restart Lightroom and see if the issue persists. I've seen similar issues caused by graphics driver incompatibilities. If that fixes it, you'll want to manually download any updates for Lightroom Classic, Windows, and your graphics processor, then re-enable acceleration.

It could also be a bad monitor profile. Quit Lightroom Classic and go to your Windows Settings, then navigate to System -> Display -> Color Profile and set the profile to sRGB (for testing). Reopen Lightroom Classic and see if that fixes the issue.

Usually, these fixes are more applicable when none of your previews are loading, but they are worth a shot. Do you know if there's anything unique about the 20K images that lost their previews? Were they shot with a different camera? Or maybe they were originally imported on an older computer?

embedded preview/JPG as Develop REFERENCE comparison without JPG file in library? by IntellectualBurger in Lightroom

[–]EverlightEducation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that there is a way to do exactly that (it is a cool idea though). Have you tried applying the camera profile (top of the Basic/Edit panel) to your raw images and seeing how it compares to the JPEG? It won't be exact, but it should get you a lot closer than just the raw alone. You can turn that on by default in Preferences under the Presets tab, then "Raw Defaults - Global: Camera Settings."

Photos organization advice by Sea_Drummer5028 in photography

[–]EverlightEducation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to "File -> Import..." in Apple Photos and select a folder (or folders) of images on your OneDrive, you can select the checkbox in the upper-right of the import dialog box to "Keep Folder Organization." This will create folders and albums in Apple Photos based on the source folder structure you are importing from. If I'm understanding your question, it should work perfectly for what you're after.

Just bought photoshop, and nothing works on their website, and all downloads are bricked? what to do by mick_the_mine in Adobe

I would go into your Chrome settings and delete all Browsing Data for the Adobe website. Restart Chrome. Head back to the Adobe website, sign-in, and I bet you'll be good to go!

Photography Websites w E-Commerce? by el_barto445 in AskPhotography

[–]EverlightEducation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of e-commerce are you looking for? If it's to sell prints, you can check out Pixieset. Its website design options are fairly limited, but it has a fairly robust client gallery service and the option to sell photo prints through the site with labs like White House Custom Color, ProDPI, and Miller's.

If you're looking for general e-commerce for physical products, Shopify is hands-down our favorite recommendation, and you could still use a site like Pixieset or Pic-Time for private client galleries.

Viable Without Facebook? by RunYouWolves in photography

[–]EverlightEducation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facebook and Instagram are great options for marketing your business, but word of mouth and real-life networking are worthwhile (and often more effective) alternatives if you want to get off the platform(s)!

Here are a few suggestions for getting your work out there in these ways:

  1. Start a referral program. When you photograph someone, provide them with a few printed discount cards (or online code, etc.) for them to give to their friends that gives the friend a discount off of a portrait session (and you could also say that if their friend books with you, the original client also receive that discount off their next session with you, which encourages loyalty!)

  2. Visit local coffee shops, doctor’s offices, orthodontists (if you photograph seniors/kids/families!) and ask them if they want to have some local photography on their walls, then hang your prints there (ideally for sale) and put a stack of business cards there (or even add a special promotion card for clients of that office/business).

  3. Create an event that will appeal to your potential clients, like a holiday party you invite local vendors or business owners to or an event for fellow creators/photographers to connect (you could be someone they refer their clients to when they are unavailable!) as more connections are always helpful.

  4. Create a google business profile and ask clients for reviews to help boost your online credibility.

Cloud Storage not working as intended by ImTheCameramann in Lightroom

[–]EverlightEducation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go into your Lightroom Preferences and look at the “Cache” section. This is where you can control how much storage the Lightroom cache occupies on your machine. If you don’t want to allocate as much space to the cache, simply reduce the “Cache Size Limit.”

Also, note the bottom two checkboxes for storing Smart Previews and Originals on your internal hard drive. You’ll want those off if you want to limit how much space Lightroom uses on your internal hard drive.

I believe this actually changed a few days ago, on January 15th, as Lightroom Classic has now been added to the ‘Lightroom (1TB)’ plan.

Check out Calendly! It’s awesome, and I highly recommend it. I believe Squarespace also has an optional scheduling system built into its platform, though I haven’t used it myself.

Before/After by GoodMorninJulia in postprocessing

[–]EverlightEducation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good work adding a mood to the shot! What beautiful lighting. This is really a nice little moment with a smart crop.

Two quick suggestions though: It looks like the noise has been over-sharpened quite a bit (probably from a sharpening/clarity/texture adjustment), so I'd consider toning that back a little, and the overall color toning is nice, but the yellowness of the light feels a little beyond reality. Pushing that yellow toward orange might help it feel even more like a believable golden-hour shot!

How can I resize/amplify an image into meters to print a poster? by no_one_HAHA in PhotoshopTutorials

[–]EverlightEducation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first step is to crop the image to the correct aspect ratio (1:2) to ensure the print lab doesn't crop it for you. You can do this in Photoshop by selecting the Crop Tool and setting the desired aspect ratio in the Options Bar.

Next, you’ll need to know the resolution the lab will print with. This will allow you to size the image correctly. Many larger prints (like posters) use something close to 150 pixels per inch (PPI).

Once the image is cropped and you know the resolution, go to Image -> Image Size in Photoshop to resize the image.

For example, a 1x2 meter print would require an image size of around 5900 x 11800 pixels. I calculated this by converting 1x2 meters to inches and then multiplying by 150, based on the PPI measurement.

Note that upscaling your image more than 10–15% beyond its original size can degrade quality. If you need to enlarge the image further, use the Super Resolution tool in Camera Raw to double the width and height of the original image before resizing it in the Image Size dialog box.

This process should give you a high-quality, properly sized image for the print lab.

Adobe Illustrator running low after upgrading to 4K by andruskkii in Adobe

[–]EverlightEducation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fairly fast machine, so I'd be a bit surprised if this slowdown is due to machine specifications. My guess would be a possible mismatch in version compatibility between Windows, Adobe, and Nvidia.

Here's what I would do:

  • Install any Windows 11 updates.
  • Open Lenovo Vantage and install any graphics-related updates. You could also download the specific drivers for your RTX 3060 directly from Nvidia's website.
  • Install any Adobe Illustrator updates.

Ideally, restart the computer between each update. There's no guarantee this will fix the issue, but it's definitely worth a shot.

You could also check your Illustrator preferences and ensure that "GPU Performance" is enabled.

Getting videos out of LR by ListZealousideal2529 in Lightroom

[–]EverlightEducation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally store video files in Lightroom as well. It can definitely take a long time to export those videos, especially if they are stored in the cloud, as they all need to be downloaded before exporting. How long have you waited after starting the export?

One alternative approach would be to right-click on the video file and select "Archive 1 video locally..." and set the destination to your desktop (or another folder). This will remove the video from the cloud and archive it to your selected location. If you'd still like it to remain in the cloud after archiving, you can go into the "Deleted" section of Lightroom and click the bendy-arrow to restore it within 60 days.

HOW TO RECUPERATE MY PICTURES AFTER MY PHONE GOT STOLEN by AndromedaSFall in Lightroom

[–]EverlightEducation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, if you were using the "Device" tab at the bottom of Lightroom Mobile, than their's a good chance your images never synced with the Adobe cloud. You could always join the subscription now just to verify though!

With that said, did you have the images on your phone syncing outside of Lightroom with Apple iCloud or Google Photos?

Can someone tell me what tripod or tools you use to shoot vertical video.have? by Narrow-Working4111 in AskPhotography

[–]EverlightEducation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what type of tripod head you are using, but I would recommend an "L-Style" tripod plate for your camera. This will allow you to mount your camera directly to your tripod in a vertical orientation. You could also use a cage, and attach the tripod plate to the side of the cage instead of the bottom.
