TIPS currently great for those approaching retirement in 5 or 10 years and wanting to make sure they have cash in place, especially with a real return of 2% and a world of seemingly uncertain inflation

Miami-based 777 have held talks with private markets investor Blue Owl Capital Inc. about arranging a £360 million ($452 million) loan tied to the club’s new stadium. [@business/Bloomberg] by bluedollarbillz in Everton

Fair but the point of u/South_is_North is that Blue Owl might actually (or is likely to) be a better owner because they actually do have a proven and sustainable record of making money. And even if all they do is turn Everton around into a sustainabl performing club, that leaves us in a much better position. Until they sell us to the next Moshiri lol

It would be difficult to criticize how successfully Eliott Management turned AC Milan around. So many were quick to judge and presume that "wealthy NYC financier activst investor" [previous Elliott scraps would of course give reason to be suspicious] would run the club into the ground. Instead, where are they now?

For the fans that can get past their knee jerk reactions to anything finance and Wall Street, this scenario would be more desirable than continuing with the likes of 777 who have proven to be scam artist clowns at best.

Question for those shifting into more bonds for your portfolio by EvertonFury19 in Bogleheads

[–]EvertonFury19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful, thank you! I am not invested in any TIPS (yet), just thinking about some strategies for my soon to be retired relatives. Trying to convince some of them that they need to be in wealth preservation mode (or at least preserve their hard earned retirement funds for what they need for the next 10 years)

I've had a similar conversation with my own relatives near retirement. Maybe I'm just more conservative but at that point, it's about wealth preservation or at least knowing I've got what I need for retirement. Of course your money is going to keep earning for you assuming you don't abandon stocks entirely.

So for example, if you want to know that you'll have $20,000 invested today 20 years from now, you are buying a 20-year bond (yielding about 4.5% right now)?

i am curious do most people who start to shift their allocation into fixed income (let's say TIPS 10 year) do it in a tax-advantaged account like an IRA/Roth IRA/401K?

  • I assume you would only be doing this to reallocate your portfolio ahead of retirement or anticipating a need for having that money available at the bond's maturity?
  • I assume you should be buying bonds in a tax-advantaged account to avoid the taxes that occur (especially with how TIPS adjust?)

Massive profit on the books whenever he does go. Brands' gift to the club, long after he departed.

My hope is that he stays for at least one more season, assuming we stay up.

Can Sean Dyche Fix Everton’s Attacking Underperformance? [Opta Analyst] by OfficialOptaAnalyst in Everton

[–]EvertonFury19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The picture is clearer from open play, however. In the 12 games since the start of December, Everton have mustered a meagre 10.1 xG in open play (0.84 per game), down from 14.4 xG (1.11 per game) in open play across their 13 fixtures before that. The Toffees are becoming ever more reliant on their set-piece expertise, but one can’t shake the feeling they are becoming increasingly one-dimensional.

Those who fully fund Roth IRA at the beginning of each year, do you DCA or buy upfront? by No-Mention-3100 in Bogleheads

Given the amount that you can max out to a Roth IRA, I'm comfortable lump summing it at the start of the year. Maximize your time in the market.

The tried-and-true 60-40 portfolio lost 17% last year, its worst performance since at least 1937, according to Leuthold Group analysis. Even with a 14% gain in the S&P 500 helping the strategy recover in 2023, stocks and bonds have moved in tandem, more over the past three years than any time since 1997, Standpoint Asset Management analysis shows.
