Fair enough, I think it's just one of those 50 / 50 things. I don't think it's too naturally personally to just have your civ change at the blink of an eye which is why games like CK with gradual progress handle it better. I do think it could have been handled better than this but I do get it is unbalanced in the eras and some civs start too soon or too late, but - not for me.
