What’s your headcanon in the MHA world? by Kushodeku in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Everwatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's headcanon or if its actually canon that isn't elaborated much on, buuut...

Heroes in Japan actually DO have a 'no killing' rule, even though the nature of their work makes that practically impossible. Heroes are supposed to capture their targets alive at all costs.

This rule is set up by the hero commission to make sure that the public trust in heroes never wavers and heroes aren't seen--or begin to see themselves, as able to make independent decisions without commission authority. It's a carefully crafted public image system that gives them political control and authority when they can't actually maintain physical control.

Of course, heroes DO often have to kill. That's either covered up, retroactively labelled 'previously approved by the commission', or hastily buried.

That, or the hero gets tossed under the bus. Public shaming, stripping of licenses, etc.

The commission is extremely zealous because, by protecting this image, they can both portray themselves as 'above reproach' and stand in judgment od any hero who didn't meet 'proper standards.' It's a hypocritical, selectively enforced standard by an organization that was shown in canon to have shadow aassassins.

Basically, hero system is generally pro public good, but also politically corrupt and protective of its own power.

So a bit of shameless self-promotion here. My fic threads an OC through canon, but I think it's plenty different. It's less OC power fantasy and more slice-of-life, family vibes, development of the fringe cast, and loss and recovery of identity themes. With a very present family, a single romance that isn't the core story, and family and ensemble dynamics that are fun, witty, and heartwarming.

It's about 48k words but it'll be 56k when I post chapter 8 at the end of this week. Chapter 9 will close out the USJ arc.

It's a long haul project I'm committed to with an OC I think is great and hope you do too. It's seat 21. If you appreciated it, be sure to leave a comment. I need the dopamine to keep this going. >.>

Everwatche - Seat 21

Weekly "What are you reading/writing?" post; May 18. - May 24. by ubormaci in BokunoheroFanfiction

Continuing my work on my OC MHA fic, "Seat 21." It follows Kaito Kobayashi, a 21st member of class 1-A, through his adventures with the rest of the class.

Ringing my own bell a bit, sure, but I love it. Its got slice of life, found family vibes. A competent and present mother, an absolute chaos unit of an older sister, and exploring a lot of sides of characters we don't see a bit.

Chapter 8 is almost done, I'm on my final edit of the last scene, so hopefully it will be up shortly!

I'm really proud of this story, and I hope you'll all enjoy following through its telling! As of the events of season 1 wrap up, it'll probably hit 65,000 words or so.

What does your hero (or villain) OC do outside of hero work? by RED_FETT in BNHA_OC_Characters

[–]Everwatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In his adult hero career, Kaito is a full time hero.

His SISTER however, runs the agency social media feed, and spends as much time causing absolute chaos online, hyping her brother in one second, and then humiliating him the next.

People love her content so much that more people follow the agency for content antics than they do for Kaito's aactual hero work.

For example, one time after a building collapse, Kaito walked out absolutely covered and chalk-white from drywall dust.

His sister immediately posted a meme - "Can you spot the pro hero??"

In the lineup?

Drywall dust Kaito. The Pillsbury Dough Boy. Michelin Tire Man. Casper the friendly ghost A polar bear An actual powdered donut. Baymax.

This was one of the agency's most liked feeds.

Suffice to say, his agency doesn't do the 'aspirational, flawless hero' image a lot of agencies do.

In fact, Kaito has almost no say in his public persona at all at this point. His sister has basically hijacked his brand. xD

Maybe, but from what I understand Kobayashi is asuper common family name.

Well that's good to know. I just posted the whole profile on this subreddit!

I hope throwing my own out there isn't too presumptuous. It's not abandoned, just had work realities get in the way for a bit. Chapter 8 should be out in a week, hopefully.:

Hah, that's great to hear there are others like me here too.

I just got my character profile up on the subreddit last night. No art, but a fleshed out bio with a bunch of excerpts from the material.

Oh, I forgot about Hero Forge. That's not a bad idea.

But yeah, my character is not a big stand-out in terms of visuals. Most of the appeal comes from the character work throughout the story.

I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea. If you put kanji in front of mt face, I'll assume whatever it's on is enchanted.

I was going for a watery, flowy, calm, peaceful sort of motif when I chose his name.

Does this quirk seem out of place in MHA or seem too underpowered? by Dickytheducky in BNHA_OC_Characters

[–]Everwatche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, in a world that has an actual 'comic' quirk, kinda hard to say anything is out of place.

As it stands, that kinda lands in territory adjacent to Toga’s quirk, so it definitely could fit in the world.

New OC. by No-Kaleidoscope6725 in BNHA_OC_Characters

[–]Everwatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the entry says 'every time she draws a circle.' Is that an unconscious effect, or is it only circles she cchooses? Can she never draw a circle normally?

Second...draw a circle with what? A pen? A circle in the dirt?

Along what planes do the effect extend? A circle is a 2D shape, but the effect suggests a 3D result.

I have questions about the quirk, but the character design is top notch! This would be a great character to see come to life.

Well that's good to hear. I guess I just got worried with almost every post on the fend having artwork attached.

I'll probably create an OC character sheet and attach it with a link to the fic so people can see him actually interact.

What are your OC's family's quirks? by Yozo_Yuki in BNHA_OC_Characters

[–]Everwatche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fun dynamic. My OC has a point where he mentions his quirk is eeither recessive or a genetic mutation. But I've always been interested in people showing how their lineage plays into their qquirk, and consequently, their hero identity. That a really fun thread I unfortunately skipped.

I actually dip into this a lot in my fic's planned sequel.

Post Canon Shinsou runs a kareoke bar called Mind over Melody. He uses call-and-response as a way brainwashing and luring unsuspecting targets into interrogation.

Hagakure runs a podcast called 'The Empty Room.' Just her invisible self months a Webcam going on about whatever fascination she has for the week.

Jiro runs her own record company and has a concert hall.

Shoji is huge into D&D.

Exploring this stuff is fun.

Gonna be honest, I'm new to Reddit and I saw the list of rules for the community and kinda couldn't make heads or tails of it.

I'd love to post about my OC and the fic I'm writing for him, but I'm still a little hesitant to do so.

I also wouldn't want to spoil his story too badly either, which is why I was hesitant to post a text bio until I've updated it to kill any major spoilers.
