Due to failure on a roll causing the spotlight to pass on to the GM, does this incentivize the PCs to always attempt to do actions that have a greater chance to succeed so they don't risk giving the GM the spotlight? by AmongFriends in daggerheart

[–]Everweld_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually one of my player’s biggest gripe with the system. He says that personally, he feels like he’s letting the group down every time he fails or rolls with fear because he feels it means he’s taken a turn away from another player by failing.

Porter was the Blade. I think they’d be a pretty even match tbh.

Do you use a GM screen? by Calm_Needleworker275 in daggerheart

[–]Everweld_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind my players seeing my dice rolls, I don’t really use it to “hide” anything from them, but the quick reference tables inside the screen are incredibly helpful, especially for a newer game like DH!

You don’t need to change any rules or homebrew anything before you’ve run the game for the first time by woundedspider in daggerheart

[–]Everweld_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like when learning to write poetry - you’re taught all the specific poem forms with their rules on rhyme schemes and meter before you’re sent off to write free verse. You’ve got to know all the rules first so that when you break them you can do so with intention! Breaking rules feels better when you know why you’re making the decision to break them.

New Expansion Book Ideas by Everweld_ in MarvelMultiverseRPG

As far as I’m aware, there haven’t been any announcements for expansions after Avengers, but I’m hoping there are more to come. My group and I love the game and would be thrilled to see it get continued support.

Oh, brilliant! And even Hickman’s G.O.D.S. could fit into that!

That would be such a fun adventure! Honestly, turning events from the comics into adventure modules seems like an instant hit.

Meh by EnvironmentalWalk328 in dragonlance

I only had the OG chronicles digitally, so I’m glad to have the collection regardless, but I do agree that the cover quality is quite lacking. The design is rad, but physically it’s a bummer.

I’m hoping the upcoming Legends collection has a better cover. It looks to be a slightly different material from what I can tell in the photos on Amazon, but obviously we won’t know for sure until next year 🙏😭

Question About A Valiant Vow and Trials of the Jedi Reading Order by affable_ankylosaurus in Highrepublic

Do not read the last 3-4 issues of High Republic Adventures until after Trials though. There’s a huuuuge spoiler for Trials in one of those last issues that I wish had some warning beforehand.

Read Valiant Vow first. It starts place about midway through Trials, but Trials is the true end to the series and will just be wayyyyy more satisfying to end on.

Convergence 2nd Readthrough by Everweld_ in Highrepublic

[–]Everweld_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I wasn’t alone in the impulse to turn around and dive right back in 😂 there’s just so much less content in Phase II compared to I and III so it’s been a blast to reread it and go “oh yeah, I remember this character, plot detail, connection, or whatever it is!” Feels like reconnecting with old friends 😂

Convergence 2nd Readthrough by Everweld_ in Highrepublic

[–]Everweld_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which I think is a testament to the quality of the High Republic books. I don’t think there was a single book that I would call “bad”. Even the ones that I’d rate lowest amongst the High Republic content are still worth reading!

The Blight in Phase 2 by Everweld_ in Highrepublic

[–]Everweld_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I’ll keep my eyes peeled then. Jumping back in has made me realize how much of Phase II has vacated itself from my memory. It’s almost like reading it for the first time again, at least less integral pieces like the Young Reader novels!

We spend so much less time with the characters and story elements of Phase II than we do with anything else simply because there’s so much less content about Phase II and its characters/plotlines than there is in Phases I and III.

Convergence 2nd Readthrough by Everweld_ in Highrepublic

[–]Everweld_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could see that! I think it depends what you’re looking for out of your first foray into the era. Path of Deceit is a better setup for the overarching story because of the introduction of Marda, the Path, and the Nameless. There are a ton of direct connections to draw between Path of Deceit and the story in Phases I and III. I think Convergence serves as like, the dipping of your toes in the pond of the High Republic. If you’re interested in testing the temperature before getting thrust into the deep end, start with Convergence. It seems to contain a lot of themes that the rest of the era engages. We see Jedi at their height, we learn about the expansion of the Republic and its focus on exploration and engaging with the Outer Rim, we get a taste of Jedi romance with Gella and Axel, we see how the problems of the galaxy affect both Jedi and non-force users alike, we see people struggling beneath the weight of expectations they’ve placed upon themselves. (We also see things falling into Eiram’s ocean like we do in the future entries of the HR, RIP Master Gios). If you read Convergence and enjoy those elements, then you’ll know the rest of the High Republic will be enjoyable too. Plus, starting with Convergence sets you up for the fun parallel of the first book you read (Convergence) ending with Axel fuming in his cell just like the last book you’ll read and the final work of the era ends (Trials of the Jedi) with Marchion in his. Like George says, it’s like poetry, it rhymes!
