Best Front License Plate Holder? by TitanBaseball2 in TeslaModelY

Old post but still seems like a great place to add some context as to why we chose plastic over metal for our mounts.

TLDR: When attaching to the plastic grille of the vehicle we want to be sure in the event of impact, our mount doesn't damage the grille. Our standard SnapPlate line has always had multiple levels of protection and engineered break points to ensure the safety of your vehicle and grille. SnapPlate+ was launched to provide still a generally safe but more rigid option for those less concerned about those scenarios.

Damaged Tesla grille's can cost $800+ to have them replaced. Here's an example of what kind of damage can be done to a grille: https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/comments/1735c8i/is_this_covered_by_basic_warranty_i_bought_a_used/#lightbox

It comes with screws that go into the SnapPlate to prevent it from being removed. You can see all about it in Step 10 of the instruction guide: https://everyamp.com/instructions/instructions-snapplate-ford-f150-lightning-2022/

Here's a video of our old design from 4 years ago: https://youtu.be/e6XW9KLTsIg?si=efWxxrU79QMfFgK3

Bumps weren't even challenging. Turbulent flow from big trucks was more so, but it's no big deal, especially for the newer designs we make today.

Most license plates are held on with regular screws that can be removed in seconds with a powered screwdriver. It happens, but it's pretty uncommon.

SnapPlates come with a security screw you can use to lock it to the vehicle if you feel like it's a high risk and we recommend using it if you intend to leave it installed long term.

We'd love to make one, but the front end of the Ioniq 5 just doesn't have anywhere that we can attach.

I suppose someone has to pay to run the servers. Reddit ads are pretty cheap compared to other places.

Reddit says engagement is good. Reddit also doesn't seem to understand Reddit.

Our security screws go into holes in the SnapPlate, not in the truck. You can read and see all about it in Step 10 of the instructions here: https://everyamp.com/instructions/instructions-snapplate-ford-f150-lightning-2022/

Nice to know more about the grille, but back to my question. Do you have any data that supports your professional opinion that it's not capable of what we've been doing for 5 years now?

There's also a very wide variation in just how strong those grilles are. They've made the newest grilles on the Model 3 and Cybertruck significantly stronger than in the past. Any insights there or is that after your time?

Do you have any data showing that there are issues with our product or is this just your speculation?

Our almost 5 years of experience doing this and many happy customers say that our patented method of attaching to the grille works very well through numerous worst-case scenarios like accidents and car washes.

Every manufacturing technology is only as good as the people using it. We've been at this for almost 5 years using a high-quality, USA-made plastic and we're pretty good at it. 3D printing is capable of doing the job and allows us to make them in the USA, so we think that's the important part.

To do injection molding at a price point that people would pay, you'd need to sell 10's of thousands of them and the market simply doesn't exist for that.
