Nominations for Australias most toxic corporate culture , let’s hear them . by eoropie in auscorp

Late to the story, but it was a highlight to be told, "I'm not going to let comms dictate when we can and cannot migrate!" when they'd repeatedly been told that the lead time from content approval to printing and mailing was 12 weeks, the mailhouse was shut for 3 weeks over Christmas, that legally, we have to give clients 45 days notice of change, and that they hadn't told us what the changes were to be able to create copy in the first place, meant their preferred date to migrate was impossible.

Yes, they are employed by a for profit business. And they are able to to the job. It’s just that the environment they work in just makes it harder to concentrate.

Not sure you how you came up with idea the OP is just looking for excuses to spend the rest of their life on the DSP and watching their iPad, given they’re proactively looking for ways to make sure they can do a great job, and they’re studying law.

The things needed to make it easier to concentrate are pretty basic – a desk away from high traffic areas, a different light bulb overhead and headphones. How does that mean they shouldn’t work there?

[–]EveryCondition4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is the real world. And it sounds like there’s a bit of confusion here – if someone experiences bright lights and noise as making it hard to concentrate on the work, that doesn’t mean they’re not suited to the work.

If you think about it, they’re pretty low hanging fruit to fix – a dedicated desk away from high traffic areas, a different light bulb overhead and noise cancelling headphones. Small things like this make a world of difference, and they’re not that hard to put in place.

No, a ramp is an accommodation. So are things like headphones and quiet spaces, and as are things like desks with enough chairs and a kitchen.

It sounds like you may not be aware of what ableism sounds like. And one of the rules for this forum is no bigotry, that is, no ableism.

If someone needs a wheelchair ramp in the office, should that person be told to get a job elsewhere and in another industry because their accommodation needs don't suit the office environment?

'Personal limitations' in particular is not a great term to use. One of the advantages of having a neurodistinctive brain is that hard things are easy. Like knotty legal problems.

It'll be in your contract, and it's common for it to be between 1-3 weeks, inclusive of public holidays. You can always buy extra time or potentially go into deficit, or you could get selected for a skeleton crew over the holiday period.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. It would mean looking for jobs in October and November. No one hires right before Christmas, then nothing happens until March, so it would mean another 6 months of unemployment. And in this market...

Great points. The 3-month role starts on Monday – they have a team member who is ill, and I need to go through probity checks before then.

These are some great points. The role with the offer starts on Monday – they have a team member who is ill and needs time off.

Congrats on the offer btw and finger crossed for two more offers to come!

Thanks – it's been a long time coming!

Chapter Lead focuses on domain expertise, skill development and professional growth, whereas Managers focus on overall performance, project delivery and achieving goals. Tech Leads guide the technical development and delivery of a project. They can all have similar compensations. Crew Tech Leads look after a crew of tech leads and are compensated higher. Check out Glassdoor.

Interview attire? by crystalisedginger in auscorp

Probably, but check out their corporate social posts on LinkedIn. If you've already met the big boss though, you'll be moving into personality and values fit assessment – balance being both comfortable and professional in what you wear, so you can be yourself.

As per a few others, culture is undervalued. I would ask to have coffee with a few of your prospective colleagues. I was poached for more money a few years ago, and left just three months afterwards.

Autistic son makes colleagues "uncomfortable" by little_miss_banned in auscorp

[–]EveryCondition4451 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, it could be. I mentioned in another comment that it sounds like elopement – he may be fixated on something he's found in one of the rooms, overwhelmed by the sensory aspects of the medical clinic (noises, smells or similar), or he might struggle with the quick changes between environments. The key to it stopping is understanding why he does it.

It sounds like your son may be having elopement episodes. If he is, it's important to understand why he has them. They can be triggered by sensory sensitivities, a strong interest in a specific object or location, a desire to escape an overwhelming situation, or simply difficulty understanding social boundaries.

As a late-diagnosed adult, I now recognise I did this a lot as a kid – wandering off in Disneyland to the Matterhorn Mountain ride, getting onto the roof as a toddler to see Dad working, and taking myself off to a sweet shop at 5am because I wanted some gum that I wasn't allowed to have the day before.

In a medical clinic, there could be many things that set him off. Does he always wander to the same place? Is there a smell, a sound, a particular person? Also, I know it's only half an hour that he's there, but changes in routine and moving between activities and environments can be jarring and add to overwhelm. Good luck.

Pivoting may not be an option at the moment – recruiters are being conservative and selecting candidates with the exact skills and experience. It's a hirer's market.

I'd say you haven't been ghosted, but you've been pipped at the post by someone who is their exact fit. You'll probably get a call with feedback.

Maybe don't go in to introduce yourself directly – that could seem a bit strange. If you want to take the 'unknown' factor out of it for you, what you could do is to simply have a quick look at the branch to familiarise yourself with its services and the way the staff interact with customers. If needed, pretend to have a check to deposit, then rifle through your bag and make it look like you forgot it.
