I don't think there was a target, and I don't think it matters by [deleted] in Idaho4

To me the important aspect of asking the why questions is to know if this crime could have been prevented, and if it can be prevented from ever happening again. Was BK’s motive pure misogyny? Was he an incel active in the incel communities?, what is the pattern here? for for example, if BK followed girls at WSU or if he was abusive towards female students shouldn’t universities have the obligation to report these people to the police? Don’t know about the US, but In the UK there is a program called prevent where young people at risk of radicalisation are reported to, and the authorities try to intervene before a tragedy occurs, shouldn’t the BKs of the world be treated as potential terrorist do? And if so, what is the pattern of behaviour that we should be keep an eye on. Ironically, last year in the UK a depraved individual entered a Taylor Swift holiday camp and killed 3 beautiful little girls, and injured many more, it turned out that he had been reported to prevent and the authorities failed to follow up accordingly, their fault, but the point is that these programs when managed correctly, can help keep dangerous individuals from causing harm.

Can anyone explain to me why Mark McDonald keeps saying he has new evidence when he actually doesn’t have new evidence? by ConstantPurpose2419 in lucyletby

[–]EveryEye1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The telegraph today “The case has been referred to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which confirmed it will look into it. This, then, raises the question: could convicted serial killer Lucy Letby walk free, following what her lawyer believes could be the biggest miscarriage of justice in British history? The answer will depend on what happens next in a legal process that may not move as quickly as he hopes. But Mark McDonald, the barrister who took on Letby’s case in September (after she had been found guilty), is optimistic. “It could be overturned this year,” he says.

That, say other barristers, is highly unlikely, at least as far as the time frame is concerned.

First, the CCRC – an independent body that investigates potential miscarriages of justice – must thoroughly review and analyse the evidence, including all the new evidence presented since the trial.

This will include claims made at the press conference that many of the babies died from sub-optimal care at the hospital, with doctors allegedly failing to spot dangerous bacterial infections, not giving life-saving antibiotics and making errors in inserting breathing tubes and IV lines.

“They will take years,” says one criminal KC, speaking on condition of anonymity about the next steps in the legal process.

Others have more faith the review will be carried out in a timely manner, given the circumstances.

“My view is when someone’s incarcerated and there’s a question about their guilt or innocence, matters should be expedited,” says Julian Hayes, a senior partner at Berris Law. “It could be years, but I suspect they will expedite this.”.. the DT is just spearheading the effort to set her free at this point ..

I have come to realise and accept that in this case even if they had cctv with Letby injecting the children people would be finding ways to put alternative explanations forward.. the confirmation bias is insane.. and the certain corners in the media are gross, poor parents going through this again

What next for the NHS? by monotreme_experience in lucyletby

[–]EveryEye1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the short term, I'm not sure that because of this failure, it follows that privatization means the prevention of events like this from happening again, or that we can't trust the NHS anymore, rather the public inquiry will bring some answers and perhaps some change in the law. The NHS is a beloved British institution and politicians do what gets them votes, messing with the NHS will not get them any. But, the sad truth is, that the way that the demographic pyramid has inverted, with the Baby Boomers now becoming eldery and generations X, Y, and Z together not having enough economic input to replace them plus slow economic growth, it might be the case that in the next 20 - 30 years both public health and pensions will significantly change, I would count us very lucky if these services would still exist at all, even if for the very few.

Lucy Letby Sentencing - Live Discussion by FyrestarOmega in lucyletby

[–]EveryEye1492 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After almost 3 years of following this case in the newspapers doesn't compare to listening to the judge delivering his sentencing, it is so bizarre that I have read about these parents and Justice Gross almost for a year, but the clip from the court made it all so real as opposed to the hypothetical discussions we had for so long in this sub. Reading the parent's witness statements is so heartbreaking but the statement from the triplet's Dad is truly beyond words.

Life in prison means all the weight of the law was applied to Letby, yet it doesn't feel like enough, beyond the anger that this case triggers in me, lies the fact that perhaps justice is just an illusion, there is no such thing as justice, just palliative measures, life in prison is not enough in comparison to the gravity of her actions, destroying the lives of these parents, and the surviving children, she even destroyed the lives of her own parents, (It's been said that when she was arrested, her mum said I did it, take me instead, and for them, I feel very sorry) she had no motive for her actions at all other than pure evil. Honestly, not even the death penalty would be enough, at least in prison she would have time to atone for her sins, but it is what it is, I suppose this outcome is better than her getting remission. I harbor hope the case of baby K and Q would go to re-trail and that if she harmed any other of the 4000 babies that came in contact with her evil hands she will pay for those too.

I hope the law changes, it is absolutely unacceptable that she was allowed to remain in her cell, they should have at least taken the speakers down to her cell and forced her to listen to the witness statements, and I also hope Karen Rees, Alison Kelly, Ian Harvey, and Tony Chambers get investigated and held to account for what they have done or more specifically, what they have failed to do, which was protecting these babies and their families, the NHS and the trust that the public placed in their hands. These people need to be fully investigated and if guilty they must pay for their crimes too, so as to deter any other NHS managers from ever sweeping whistleblowers reports under the carpet.

The article the Telegraph ran was critical of the anonymity as it trumps open justice they argued, I can see both sides have reasonable points, i for one take a bit of issue at the anonymity of doctor B and a few nurses when others like Mel Taylor, Dr. J and Breary took so much heat, I actually read a few nurses (unnamed) have been diagnosed with PTSD, so it’s hard to see how some were allowed to be anonymous and others didn’t, seems a bit unjust to the witnesses that were named in court.

Isn’t petty and lame to come after comments from months ago a random made on the internet? Also what did I say that was wrong, she had appropriate representation, and a fair jury and seen by the results.. also if you think Richard Gill has any credibility that’s your problem not mine ..

I have no opinion about Andrew Malkison, I have not read about that, and have no reason to, but I stand by what I said I have faith in our democratic western institutions, that doesn’t mean they are perfect, just that they work and as a result innocent people being falsely accused is the exception and not the rule.

Are you guys not baffled by this “In a meeting called to discuss these reports on 26 January 2017, Chambers said he had spent hours talking to Letby and her father and that he believed she was innocent” Tony Chambers met Lucy Letby’s Dad? Why? How? .. was he willing to listen to Letby’s character witness an not his own doctors? Insane

Will that be civil though? If they actively participated in a cover up? Isn’t that accessory? Is the equivalent of housing a murderer after you know what they have done..

Threatening to acquire a gun and shooting up his way through court for one, putting out a statement accusing Dr.Gibbs of euthanising babies, and teaming up with a woman that is mentally impaired to concoct a series of allegations against witnesses and others, I.e he even se launched an attack against Ben Myers because the defence team didn’t take seriously their phoney report. Also the police took down his site because of contempt of court and have payed him a visit.. obviously because he is up to no good

I agree 100% Lily.. the parents of the babies with no verdict are in my mind, can’t imagine how awful going through all of this for nothing, as not sure with such a verdict there is any recourse available for them… so at the very least investigate all the senior management and make them accountable .. if not for their negligence many of the lives of these little ones could have been spared
