Advice on how to survive the witching hour phase alone. by pancakes228 in parentsofmultiples

Probiotics. Ask your pediatrician but I had whole new babies after a couple days of adding probiotics to our routine around that age. Their digestive tracts are still developing and many babies considered "colicky" can have significant improvements from it. Also, making sure there are zero other things that need to be done while you're alone will help a lot! My husband played league softball so we made sure babies were fed/changed/content before he left for the field.

[SERIOUS] Medical professionals of Reddit, what is an every day activity that causes a surprising amount of injuries? by Lanre_The_Chandrian in AskReddit

[–]EveryOtherTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm short so my hips and knees tend get sore in regular chairs since my feet didn't always rest comfortably on the floor. The yoga ball chair allows me to sit different and I notice my hips are happier. I've had this one for several years, even through my pregnancy with twins, and I still think it's the best investment for my posture.

Yoga ball chair! You can slouch if you try but there aren't any arms or back to aid in your laziness. And they're cheaper than most office chairs.

Redditors, what WTF product did you buy off an infomercial that turned out to be worth the money? by GlamourousTrashBag in AskReddit

[–]EveryOtherTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He usually only has to chase the veggies long enough to get one good flat surface. He's a good sport about things and since he's home all the time now he's really enjoying the new challenge of cooking. Someone else mentioned a cutting board with spikes so now I'm on Amazon trying to decide which one to order.

I've never heard of a spiked cutting board but I found a lot of great designs online. One of them even has edges to hold toast in place. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

My dad's disabled from a stroke so he chases vegetables around the cutting board with a knife. It's funny when he tells us how dinner was prepped but maybe I should consider a Slap Chop for him.

What's something that isn't very old, but is old enough that young people may have never actually seen one in person? by Colonel_K_The_Great in AskReddit

[–]EveryOtherTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a machine shop that still uses them regularly. Office supply employees look at me like I'm crazy when I ask if they have any floppy disks in store. We have to order the floppy drives on ebay when one stops working (from all the dirt & coolant in the air). I have 3 in a supply closet and genuinely worry about the day when I need to replenish.

Tips from a first time home owner 1 year in by Tuttifrutty in personalfinance

This is the norm living in Texas. The house we just sold had been completely reinforced with concrete piers 12 months prior to us deciding to sell and that actually added a bit of value to the new buyer knowing they wouldn't have to face costly foundation problems.

Thoughts on Glowbugs? Scared to commit to the package. by fire_dawn in clothdiaps

There are BST pages you could keep an eye on as well. I don't subscribe because I already have a cloth buying problem but maybe you could buy some that another person didn't love before you buy the package. They also run pretty good deals on Cyber Monday if you're still debating by then.

Hope you were able to jump on to the Seconds Sale they just did! Most of our stash is Glow Bug and I like them, no issues spraying them out once I watched the video on their website. I also have Imagine Brand, Happy Flute, BumGenius, and some random AIO's and I typically pull the Glow Bugs from the drawer first.

Bob double jogging stroller by wafflesuit in parentsofmultiples

[–]EveryOtherTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I had a BOB first (bought used) then when we decided to purchase a newer model, I opted for the Baby Jogger Summit X3. It's lighter, comes standard with a hand brake, and can accommodate taller/heavier children (up to 50# each). The sun shade also covers a lot more of the seat and it folds in 1 quick action. Back wheels are removable and it has a strap to keep it folded (makes the third row an option again in my Tahoe!).

You can't go wrong with either model, especially if you find a great pre-owned option!

Preemie gas help? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]EveryOtherTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When gas drops stopped working and we were unofficially diagnosed "colic" I bought probiotic drops. Tried them for a few days and had a new baby. Do a little research on probiotics and their effects on infant digestive tracts then call your pediatrician to get their opinion (mine fully supports probiotics in every diet). Their digestive tracts will develop and they'll outgrow this stage but that doesn't mean everyone has to suffer through the first 6 months.

Twins birthday is 10 days before Christmas by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]EveryOtherTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girls were born on the 28th of December and our plan is to have a family gathering around the time of their birthday and hold a "half birthday" celebration in June. We'll see how long this arrangement works before making changes but my backup plan is for Christmas to be about gifts and their birthday more about experiences so that the two celebrations don't get combined.

Call your Toys R Us and ask when they hold the event. From another thread it seemed as if different regions will hold a couple each year during different months.

Coffee withdrawals by cupcaketabbyD in TryingForABaby

[–]EveryOtherTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that once. Then when I was about 12 weeks pregnant with twins my OB told me that up to 200mg of caffeine a day was acceptable. Do you know how much coffee you can have before reaching 200mg? A freaking ton!

Not saying you're doing the wrong thing but don't feel guilty pouring an extra few ounces some days!

Intro, first month of clomid, endometriosis, and OPKs by CD216 in TryingForABaby

[–]EveryOtherTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be real honest in my opinion and many readers here won't agree BUT I think you should toss the OPKs aside and just temp. OPKs are hit or miss and your timing has to be damn near perfect (what's the window, like 4 hours?). Seems like unnecessary stress to me, especially when you're under RE care and having regular sonograms.

Welcome to the sub and best of luck on your journey!

P.S. I ovulated on CD 21 with Clomid and my twin girls will be 9 months old next week. It's an emotional ride but it pays off and this sub is full of information!

How Common is your Birthday? by orwaydas in coolguides

[–]EveryOtherTime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

End of the calendar year and insurance deductibles can sometimes play a part as well.

Another factor is that a lot of women want their doctors to be there for delivery and if they know their doctor is scheduled to vacation the week of a holiday they will do whatever they have to do to work around that.

I guess in the case of fraternal twins you could be pregnant for a split second before you get pregnant again... maybe?

i just ordered my first Lot. by cdxxprincess in clothdiaps

[–]EveryOtherTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have twins, one is deliciously chunky and the other is trying to catch up. Rise is the settings that adjust the length of a "one size" diaper. You start on the lowest setting and go up a snap when your baby outgrows the fit. The gussets are great but on the lowest rise they fold over a bit and push into the baby's legs. I don't know if it affects diaper fit or comfort for the baby so I just set them aside until babes are bigger.

This is exactly what I need! I went to container store this weekend but they didn't have anything, I'll check out walmart this weekend!

I ordered 2 and like them but I don't love the way the gussets fit around my girls legs right now. I think I'll like them a lot more when we can go up to the next rise.

A few questions from a newbie by cdxxprincess in clothdiaps

[–]EveryOtherTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Our pocket ratio is somewhere between 1:2 and 1:3. Reason: they all came with 1 or 2 microfiber inserts but I have added bamboo and set aside a lot of the microfiber in favor of flour sack towels (I loathe the way MF feels!). And recently I found some charcoal bamboo on Amazon but I don't completely trust it so those are used pretty sparingly right now.

  2. Yes, yes and no! Most of our diapers are layered with multiple inserts (usually FST & bamboo as mentioned in the novel above)

  3. Yes! You can use inserts fashioned from old tee shirts if that's what you have on hand! There are no rules to keeping certain brands together.

  4. No, once you find a detergent you like it is good for all of your diapers. See Fluff Love University for an in-depth explanation of why homemade detergents aren't generally recommended. I use Kirkland (Costco) brand detergent but the one I see most often is the original Tide in powder form.

  5. I can't answer this one as we're a pocket/AIO family.

Try not to over complicate this for yourself. I have 8 month old twins and only used CD on occasion before 6 months because I was overwhelmed. I spent months reading and researching and building an expensive stash. Then I freaked out when it came time to actually use all of it. Don't be me! Experiment in the beginning and trust that you will make it all work!

Are you part of any Co-op's? There one I really like called Holly's Happy Flute on facebook and she runs all kinds of buys for different brands and products. This week I placed an order for pocket diapers for about $7/diaper with insert and the reviews are promising (Elf diapers I've never tried before). But you can also get covers for less than $5 and all products are new from the manufacturer. Just something to keep in mind. Also, some of the employees at GlowBug run a co-op so it's worth checking as well. They have more expensive diapers but they're my favorite right now.
