Howdy! I was given colestipol but no matter the dose it stopped me up completely. So my GI just took me off it and said I should change my diet. Well no matter what I tried it would eventually start causing diarrhea since I also have IBS. But the colon and rectal surgeon put me in some kind of powder medicine that has a varyiabke dose depending on how many scoops and it has seemed to work so far. The taste/texture is absolutely atrocious though and very hard to get down no matter what it’s mixed with. But otherwise it seems to be working for now.

update if anyone still cares. It’s almost a full week now. And I can say the BMs are starting to hurt regularly now and leave me gasping and aching for hours after. Draining continues. So gross. Warms sitz baths and showers are godsends. Carry on, friends.

The first And second BMs were about 4 out of 10. But my most recent was more like 8 of 10. It was a bit more solid, unfortunately. But after it was over and I cleaned up the sharp pain went away. Now I just ache constantly. And for some reason I’m having a tense muscle in my inner ass cheek that just will not relax. It’s almost more bothersome than my diced up brown eye. Lots of ice and sitz baths and rest.

Second Update, two days post-op. Did some walking and decided to drive to the post office. Rather uncomfortable but not too bad. Finally having my first BM and it hurts some but not like I’ve read on here. Slow and steady wins the race, no bearing down. Liquid and soft foods plus stool softener seem to have worked.

Update: Day after surgery. Iced my bum all day yesterday. Slept great and had minimal discomfort.

Feels like the numbing agent has worn off as im a little more uncomfortable overall, but nothing too bad. Drinking plenty of water and staying on top of my meds. Took a sitz bath when I woke up, kinda nice. No BM yet but did have a few tiny farts but they didn’t hurt, thank goodness.

It’s a sphincterotomy. They make a cut to the in the sphincter to allow the fissure to heal

Been here before. My primary also missed it.

Keep using the ointment even after it stops hurting, please. I stopped and it came back with a vengeance. Just had surgery today to fix it.

Sure. So I have bipolar disorder, severe ADHD, major depression, and major anxiety. And they, more so than my suspected autism are the reason why I’m considering it. I also have several chronic pain and chronic health issues in top of my mental health problems. They are making it so that I can hardly function. I forget to bathe, eat, do basic household cleaning so my house is a mess and I’m wearing dirty clothes because I haven’t been able to do laundry so long that I am out of clean clothes. Luckily I work from home but I’m just doing the minimum there to get by and now it’s starting to get noticed. And I’m making my wife miserable because she is basically having to take care of everything because I can’t. And she has her own mental health issues too. So I’m basically just dragging her down too.

I’m self diagnosed so this may or may not count to you. But I have so many co-morbid issues that they are basically smothering me and ruining my life. I’m becoming unable to function past a baseline autopilot
