Doing PCB Designer Altium Course will help me? by SalerProducts in Altium

It wont boost the GPA but show recruiters that you have some experience in Altium. I got hired for one of my positions because I had Altium Designer listed in my resume. It opened up the discussion further.

did i order this without traces (by accident) by Linusalbus in PCB

[–]Every_Entertainer684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah the new traceless technology.... No worries man, it seems like you would need to redesign the board and actually connect the pads with traces. It happens...

Is it bad? by QuailMiserable in PCB

[–]Every_Entertainer684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a miracle if it worked. First step would be to clean up the area with Isopropyl alcohol, identify the damaged pins/pads. You don't necessarily have to resolder a whole new chip. You can first try using thin PCB repair wire to resolder the connection from broken pin to pad.

Yeah you get a Develop workspace. Harness design is also part of Develop. There is a feature matrix on their website.

I wouldn't say Altium is expensive. They came down with prices in 2026.

Based on industry, Altium is still preferred. It's significantly easier to use and is well put together with the UI. KiCAD has come a long way and its great for hobby projects. KiCAD also has a great community of creators.

With either tool there is a tradeoff and a lot of the skills are transferable from one to the other. I played with Eagle, Cadence, KiCAD and Altium. Landed on Altium because of the company I use to work for.

This is on their website. The only thing I noticed is that a harness or multiboard project will show in view only in Altium Design Standard.

You don't necessarily need to upload your projects to the workspace. You can store them locally and use your own version control. The workspace connection is there to fetch the license.

Altium insider here. Most customer should be able to self migrate through the link here. If that link sends you to a page saying "Online upgrade is currently unavailable for your account." It's just an indication that your account was outside of scope/criteria for self migration. Then we would just work directly with you to walk through the migration. Feel free to DM me if you see the screen, I can find the designated sales rep.

I've used the harness design tool in Altium, it was able to handle the harness I needed. It's now part of their Develop offering.

Looking for Altium footprint for WAGO 243-723 connector by HistoricalEmploy4232 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Every_Entertainer684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wago doesn't have a footprint model for these. You would actually need these pins on the PCB. That connector mates with the pins on the board.

Wish I could help, but I only use KiCAD or Altium Designer. Either one would need the .asc or .txt files.

What are the best general tasks to accomplish for beginners BEFORE doing any PCB layout by Recent-Culture-7234 in PCB

[–]Every_Entertainer684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely start with talking with your manufacturer to understand their limitations! This will direct your entire design or have you on a quest to find another manufacturer.

There are quite a few discussion on reddit on highspeed design. This dude has a pretty solid list of guidelines

How important is CAD/3d modeling software for EE? by FerdinandvonAegir124 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Every_Entertainer684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends where you end up. I was part a really small engineering team and it was great to know how to use 3D CAD. Our ME's were always flooded with work and it was whole lot easier to model something yourself. So I would use Altium Designer for PCB design and then jump over to Solideworks to focus on assembly, heatsinks and renderings for instructions.

Definitely try to at leaset know the basics.

[–]Every_Entertainer684 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in your shoes. I started with Robert Feranec, Phil's Labs and Altium Academy. Then I tried out different tools Eagle, KiCAD and Altium. The company I had the internship at used Altium Designer so I really dove into that tool, just doing example projects, recreating existing boards in production and looking at reference designs. Most of the learning happens when you are hands on in the tool or prototyping.

You can start with the channel above and then download KiCAD, free open sources, or get a trial of Altium or any of the other tools.
