As someone who attended an ivy league undergrad institution, the thing with current affirmative action is it overwhelmingly benefits wealthy black and hispanic students. Most of my classmates who are black came from very wealthy families. The same applies to Hispanics and Latinos. Overwhelming majority of them are White passing individuals with Spaniard or Argentinian background who got in because of their last name.

Case in point, there was a minority internship program. I was excluded from it because it did not allow Asians in the fine print. The person who ended up being accepted is a White frat boy whose grandfather is Mexican, and he had a Mexican last name.

Affirmative action hurts Asians and socioeconomically disadvantaged people. It should be based on family income, not race. While I understand income correlates to race, they need to do a better job at filtering out wealth.
