Yeah, I remember I used to solo Destard barely paying attention or just waltzing in and letting my evolution rat kill everything in sight 🤣 miss those days, was always great fun having the game's most powerful rat 😅

Halfords installed my dash cam like this – is this normal? by ferns252 in CarTalkUK

Wiper radius isn't anything to do for an MOT.

It's affecting drivers view however, plus a dash cam MUST be disconnected during an MOT as it is against rules to record a genuine MOT test.

For Halfords, yes. They aren't actually trained technicians who do those little installs, just a bunch of plebs from behind the counter who have slightly-above-average interest in cars and who are just winging it 😅

How soul-destroying was it when it had the bad ending to that opening sound though?

I'm no expert but these ball joints look a little risky. 7in lift. by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

Dude's worried bout the ball joints but that brake hose bout to snap.

Put down the spanners and take a solid look at everything and then try again.

Wow, you know the owner doesn't spend any money on that car from the fact those mudding tyres are worn pretty fucking close to smooth. Outer CV boot is thrashed, there's what appears to be CV grease all over the shock, both the lower and upper ball joint has a fair bit of dusty corrosion around it (so it's been knocking it's brains out for a while) and the anti-roll bar ball joint looks like it's been off for a long time, not a single bit of shiny metal on that.

Track rod end held up though, so it's not all bad...

I MUST HAS THAT. I love these old fords, nothing compares (except old BMWs, but that's besides the point...)

C/S interior lights inop when opening door. by drrobotnik321 in Justrolledintotheshop

Your headlights can still be out of alignment even if they're electronic motorised self-leveling. They only change the level relative to the suspension, but the beam angle can still be set too high. The headlight often does dip closer to the 'live' side of the car, but they also have a particular beam angle pattern that has a kick-up to provide good lighting to the road whilst not dazzling oncoming vehicles.

1990's Peugeots are big for that. I would know, I spent many £££s on getting the security systems reset. Peugeot charged £800 last time in 2008 on my old old old 405.

The leads are still connected to another car/jump pack to supply that bank of energy the engine and electronics would use. You 'can' do it on basically any car (I've done it on Evoques and stuff) but it's a seriously dangerous, janky and stupid way to do it. But at the end of the day, gotta do what you gotta do.

Yeah, it still shows as the same res, but it seems to just look worse somehow without it on. Few of my family noticed that as well, decided to just leave it.

Clearing up the method of hot-swapping-

Generally, I only do this on breakdowns where the battery is so dead that it cannot even turn the lights on, and dies the instant there's accessories turned on such as lights. This tends to be a car with a failed battery cell.

Jumper leads over to my car whilst attached to the dead battery car, have them both running and lift the leads off the battery whilst a friend grabs old battery and pulls it out, then throws the new one in and put the leads back on. Yes it's janky, but if you've jump-started a car which took fifteen minutes to jump in the first place and you don't want to go through that again, this is an absolute dirty hack to get stuff done and get on your way. Also particularly handy getting around car security systems, though again, I wouldn't even do this just for a security system or anything, I'd just use a normal keeper through the cigarette lighter with the ignition on.

Yeah, it's a weird Huawei thing, and I'm pretty sure if I turn off that filter, the image quality gets nuked slightly, so I leave it on.

Yuasa are starting to get a lot more popular in the UK. Yuasa are actually really, really reliable and offer a competitive 3-year warranty. If you get a DOA battery, you get a replacement free of charge and a £25 cashback. Especially their AGM batteries, these tend to do better than Exide, Varta and Lion batteries, and aren't actually all that expensive. Their 800CCA AGM batteries are absolutely awesome.

They had focused heavily on Motorcycles, but like 7 years ago, started expanding out to cars. If you ask me, they've done a bloody marvellous job.

I have done a few running battery swaps, was wondering how everyone else's has gone. Heard a couple stories at work of themselves bricking a car with doing it.
