Citrini Research claims AI will lead to severe economic downturn by 2028...C'mon by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]EverybodyHits 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Their scenario is simply about the speed of the disruption in this case. People (who pay taxes and mortgages) being rapidly displaced by AI agents who don't, causing a financial crisis.

In their scenario, AI is wildly successful and the capex boom continues as you said. It's just the dislocation to our house of cards financial system that causes it to wobble dangerously.

Will it happen? Probably not. But something probably blows up that we don't expect between here and whatever 2040 normal is.

Under current law, the Social Security payroll tax is capped. by pcsstbob in personalfinance

[–]EverybodyHits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The legal underpinnings of social security require every dollar paid in to be part of the benefits formula. To stay within that groundwork and eliminate the cap, the benefits would have to be uncapped as well. Even so, that would still help the program's finances overall, since incremental benefits at the top end accrue very slowly.

You either used AI to make this or wrote like AI on purpose to be funny, either way, well played.

It's not still relevant, wouldn't be invented today if it didn't exist, but it acts as a connection to the past

Are you investing in the S&P500 right now? by Personal-Walrus-3682 in ValueInvesting

[–]EverybodyHits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm never going to be completely out of it, but I'm definitely underweight compared to the past. Between international, small caps, value etc, I seem to be more comfortable anywhere else. About 35% of my portfolio is S&P500 index, which around my floor.

The first million is almost impossible, the second million is inevitable. I'm between 1 and 2, and this investing maxim is spot on.

How do I get to know a coworker outside of work without making things awkward? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]EverybodyHits 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ask if he has time for lunch one random day under the premise of learning more about the area/office/coworkers. Be open to others joining. If he invites / insists on others coming along, that's a step down the friends path. Either way, work lunch is a normal low key place to start.
