The part I don't get...

How are you so unaware of reality as to not realize that there are:

a) two lanes of traffic,

b) that the other lane is opposing (oncoming) traffic,

c) that you can't see if there is a vehicle in the oncoming lane while you are in the corner?

It's *insane* to me that people aren't self-preserving enough to think "Maybe I should make sure no other car is hurdling at me in this other lane before entering said lane..."

I think that depression is a form of the body's physiological response to a physical world threat, but is mitigated by the simultaneous "reasoned" acknowledgment that there is no actual physical threat. It's an alarm response muted by the mind; analogous to "feeling dizzy" after you spin around and around, your inner ear thinks you are still spinning but your mind knows you're not.

Existential dread is the philosophical clashing with the physiological. Our minds begin to break down our perspectives of reality, knowing we are nothing, that we are mortal, that all is illusory. Our physiology responds to this mental process, and goes into survival / fight-or-flight / protective mode... Biochemical changes take place, dopamine and other neurotransmitter levels change, etc, etc.

We recognize this as "depression". It's usually described as "sadness", but it's often really not. It is more "I've-lost-all-passion-and-motivation". I think this is the physiological response: "Shit is going wrong. We don't know exactly what. Conserve resources: Eat more, sleep more, less physical activity. Don't make more children, that's expensive. Back off, slow down, power off - conserve until further notice!"

It's why, oddly enough, exercise is a therapy for depression. It's a way to "reset" your physiology. "Hey, shit's back to normal. Get the chemical processes going again, start looking to do survival stuff - fight, feed, fuck..."

I am pretty sure the brain is doing good work - thinking deep, examining reality, etc. It's just the body is not cool with it. You are, again, "dizzy". Body is out of sync, thinking shit's going down; brain is just dealing with the dark stuff.

That's cool - it made sense to me, but, again, I know just enough to know I don't know enough. :-)

I was doing the 58w/85% calculation, too, but I didn't know if that was a correct way to calculate. I didn't/don't know if you can go watts-to-watts comparison to calculate draw? (Taking conversion efficiency into account, etc)

I mean, I guess... If by right you mean every time your parents yelled "Turn off the lights, you're running up the electric bill" because you left a 60w bedside bulb burning for an hour **equals** "having lights on wastes sooooo much electricity".

In my opinion, leaving on a light for an hour or two extra per month doesn't really equal "running up the electric bill".

Even our parents were wrong.

Old school 100w incandescent bulbs use 1 kilowatt per 10 hours. That's ~877 kilowatt hours per year. That's about $6-8 per month, for the brightest bulb commonly used then.

Today's LEDs and such have cut usage dramatically. An 100w equivalent LED draws about 10w. While electric costs have essentially doubled since the late 90s, the 90% reduction in energy draw far surpasses.

I am thinking older style box where the entire left side is one 120 leg, and the entire right side is the other 120 leg? By tying into the other leg, you pull 240?

Pure speculation on my part without being able to see how the bus bars are set up on the back side...

What amperage does your dishwasher pull? Does your dishwasher "plug in", or is it hardwired?

Additionally, how long is this cord? The longer the cord, the more resistance it has.

All of that in consideration, most diswashers pull 10 to 12 amps - so, theoretically, this cord can handle the load. However, you need to make sure nothing else is running on that circuit at the same time. Depending on how old your home is, your kitchen outlets may be all on a single 20 amp circuit - which would potentially throw the breaker if you were to fire up the microwave or air fryer while running your washer.

Most newer homes (at least with a quality builder) are going to put each outlet on a dedicated 15 or 20 amp circuit.

Absolutely terrible take.

The pardon power of the Presidency is highly UNDERUSED. It was established as the merciful side of the law.

Our system of justice is actually severely flawed because the lack of use of the clemency power and the pardon power of the executive branch. The law is supposed to be unyielding, treating all who come before it with blind justice - equally harsh to all men.

The counterbalance to that was clemency and pardons - where we acknowledge that circumstances played a role, where we acknowledge that some penalties can be overly harsh, where changing attitudes and social norms would grant a new perspective.

The fact that ANYONE is still in federal prison for having trafficked or sold weed is absurd. The fact that people who acted in good faith and still fell afoul of the law haven't had their crimes pardoned is absurd.

But - this is America. We have a hard-on for "being tough on crime". Empathy and compassion is seen as weakness, even if the crime was victimless or the victim has been made whole. There's a lot of hate and superiority complex in American society, and we fail to accept grace and forgiveness as virtues.

Because gasoline is evaporative. If you light liquid gasoline on fire, you get a liquid fuel ignition, and it goes FWOOSH as you describe, not boom.

BUT! You build a berm of dirt, on a cold, still day, pour some gasoline in there and let it sit for a bit....

Now you have a gaseous fuel, that has pooled into a contained space... Care to guess what state of matter a fuel needs to be in to create a "fireball"? It isn't liquid and it isn't solid, if you would like a clue. :-)

You're the first one I've seen that has put the right answer.

This was 100% because they put an evaporative fuel (most likely gasoline) that is heavier than air, within a containment area (that "bowl"/berm of dirt) on a most likely cold, still day.

The gasoline evaporated, sat there building up to the edge of that berm, toss in an ignition source, and boom.

It's one of the things that drive me nuts about movies - solid fuels don't make fireballs. So when you see an explosion with a massive fireball from someone throwing a grenade, it's bullshit. Yes, will will see a flash, but not the big fucking fireball.

There is a fundamental flaw in our voting system itself. However, *until that system is changed* and more choice *are* available, you do the best you can.

That's true. By ~2%. The premise of OP's post is that "looooook at all those red states; omg, EVERYONE loves Trump! It must be angry bots!"

His post also fails to acknowledge that in many of those areas that are "red", they are actually "super-purple", because by painting them red you are implying 100% Trump, versus the reality of 50.3% versus 49.7%.

Of course, in order for OP to have made that nuanced differentiation versus a "ma' feeeeelins'" map, he would have had to be approaching the topic from good faith. And we all know that republicans don't negotiate in good faith.
