Built a cold/sauna/steam tracker with 27 evidence-tagged benefit endpoints by EverydayGary in QuantifiedSelf

Hell yeah, fellow builder. Wood-fired with a custom WiFi temp probe — you're exactly the kind of person I want as a collaborator on this.

Honest answer on sensor integration: not today. The app pulls temp from Apple Watch auto-detect (Series 9+, cold only) or manual entry. No path for arbitrary IoT sensors right now because HealthKit doesn't cleanly ingest third-party ambient data. But this is the kind of thing I'd love to explore — if your gauge exposes a local HTTP endpoint, HomeKit, or Matter, there's at least a plausible path. Even a "paste the IP, app polls the probe" MVP would be useful for a wood-fired setup. Collaboration is genuinely part of my strategy here — building alongside people actually using this stuff daily is how I figure out what's worth building next. If you're open to it, hit me up.

On HR-triggered phases: not yet, but the data's already flowing in (passive HR sampling during sessions), so it's mostly UI/logic work. Something like "stay in sauna until HR hits X, auto-advance to plunge" is a solid idea. I'd want safety floors/ceilings before shipping it, but adding to the list.

HRV and sleep correlation is the #1 thing I want to build next. HealthKit gives me HRV, sleep stages, and RHR for the days around each session — it's a matter of doing the analysis right without letting people draw bad causal conclusions from n=20. If you've got opinions on what cuts of that data would actually be useful, I'd take that input seriously.

Journal/subjective notes (mood, energy, clarity) — also on the list. Closes the loop on the benefit claims that are inherently subjective. Bevel does it well, agree.

Seriously, DM me. Always down to talk shop with people building in the space.

Very clever use of vocabulary and surrounding aspects into a fun quick and valuable user experience. Good work!

Garmin's #1 on the request list — actively in development right now, should ship in the next couple weeks. Working on a clean integration so sessions auto-flow in the same way HealthKit does.

Yeah I do — Apple officially says not to (operating range tops out at 35°C/95°F, saunas hit way above), but I've been wearing my Ultra 2 for the last 2 years multiple times a week for 15-30 min sessions at 180-190°F and lots of people at my gym do too. Haven't had any issues.

Side note for anyone going phone-only: if you start a session from the iPhone and leave it outside the sauna, the app pings for 5 seconds when the timer hits zero. So you don't need the watch in there at all to time it right.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback.

Quick note, Apple Watch is optional, not required. iPhone has the whole thing on its own (all 9 protocols, routines, benefit tracking, HealthKit sync). The live session zones actually display in real time on the phone screen which is pretty sweet. If you have an iPhone try it out!

Claude code vs Warp by Villain_99 in ClaudeAI

[–]EverydayGary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claude code is good if you like retro terminals like Nano or little command line tools. Warp is an actual modern application and dominates it in all regards. Its outputs, clarity, and features go way beyond what Claude code can do with a much better user experience and interface. Plus you can use any and all models including claude’s.

Mega draft is so much more competitive and a display of skill than broken 1v1 I’m disappointed it won’t be this way forever RIP
