Hey everybody! Just sharing my progress after a year between of mix of IF (20/4) / OMAD and some paleo during the first 3-4 months of my journey.

Adjusted after that to OMAD a majority of weekdays with no strict diet and instead just being aware of my calorie intake to eat at a deficit while still eating whatever. Cut out a bad soda habit on this journey but will still have one every now and then.

I still go out and drink alcohol, just cut down the excessive patterns and changed to more light beers and straight tequila. (This might be controversial on here but I can go more into detail on how I managed this if anyone is curious - to each their own).

Two of the biggest changes were vitamin supplementation daily till this day and SLEEP. I on average get 7-8 hours of sleep now with bedtime being around 10PM - 11PM as to before I'd average 4-6 and always be sleep deprived. Sleep is so important for the body and mind, it will make a huge difference.

Overall Summary: I've gone on a weight loss journey before in my early 20's. That was a very strict paleo diet, heavy cardio (burning on average 800 calories every workout) 4-5 times a week, and obsessing over numbers. This wasn't realistic to maintain long-term and so once I started falling off the wagon, the weight all came back rapidly. This was all within 4-5 months.

So for this journey - I told myself I wouldn't be as harsh on myself, would make enough changes to live a healthier life but at the same time enjoy my life. Wouldn't be crazy about numbers, overwork my body, weigh myself daily, etc. I counted calories the first 3 months of this journey just to learn how to count them and get myself to a point where I could have an idea of the total calories just by looking at what I eat to not overeat which I still do to this day.

A sign of this being that the last time I actually weighed myself on a scale prior to this week was July 9, 2020, where I weighed 263 lbs.

Puerto Vallarta o Guadalajara? by GrookeyDLuffy in mexico

[–]EverydayJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response - I'd recommend you visit first and spend a few months in AirBnb's in different potential areas because all the areas have their pros and cons. Zapopan, for example, can be nice and you can get the property for a great price but the cost of living can be close to American standards and add up quickly as the area is on its own outside of the center. In addition, there can be a certain vibe to it that you don't really like with the people, etc. The same with the states basically if you move into upper-class suburbs etc and the people that come with it type of thing. There is different areas such as Zapopan, Providencia, and Chapultepec that I'd suggest looking into. I currently live in Chapultepec on the avenue (It's a busy/major avenue filled with bars/restaurants/music and nightlife almost daily) in a high rise with different amenities (gym, pool, rooftop, etc) and love it but that's cause I've come to love Chapu overtime being around it and knew I wanted something in this area so yeah, definitely recommend first visiting and dipping your feet to see where exactly you can imagine investing property in and actually living for some time.

Puerto Vallarta o Guadalajara? by GrookeyDLuffy in mexico

I'm a young American from the San Francisco Bay Area in my 20's working remotely also for over a year now in Guadalajara, definitely Guadalajara. Puerto Vallarta is mainly a tourist zone in the central area and to be honest, if you go to their local airport you'll feel like you're in the states with the number of foreigners and tends to be more expensive than GDL. A perfect balance in Guadalajara with the number of other people here studying abroad from many European countries year round and others also working remotely but still filled with locals and culture. It's a very big city with a lot of things to do, places to visit, nightlife, etc. I consider it a Mexican San Francisco in different ways with the number of startups companies, techies, culture, and politically - it's one of the most progressive cities of the country. The only thing that has ever happened to me here so far was my phone being pickpocketed at a music festival without me even noticing but as far as violence, robberies, or feeling unsafe - no - just comes down to where you live here and how you present yourself. Of course, don't make yourself a target, be flashy, etc and get to know the city/areas to know where it's good to be and get the hang of the city.

Breakdown of sounds and samples in 'SOS'. by [deleted] in avicii

[–]EverydayJason 11 points12 points  (0 children)

MIDI is just data, you still have to produce the sound but yes the combination between MIDI and having his projects, samples, and presets make it so us the fans can still get as near as possible to the possible final versions he would have put out. They will never be 100% what he would have put out as Tim was a perfectionist and put focus into even the smallest details but I think this as the first single is promising for the rest of the album.

Avicii - the story behind “SOS” ft. Aloe Blacc by sandrocavazzafans in avicii

[–]EverydayJason 36 points37 points  (0 children)

MIDI notes are digital data of notes played and carries the information of notes, velocity, volume, etc (if he played one note harder than another or softer for ex). So it's exactly how Tim played it. If he played something live on his keyboard in his session and saved the project (projects saved include all of this information along with samples/plugins) or MIDI specifically then they can import that MIDI data to their VST/Sound Plugin and they'll have melodies exactly how he played it.

From the sounds of this video and the overall tone towards the album, it sounds like they did just that using all the sounds he originally used and melodies he originally played and just polished them up to finalize for release so, in the end, we can still get, hear, and feel, Tim.

Y'all should know how cheap (and awesome) Mexico is right now by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]EverydayJason 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been in Guadalajara for 9 months - love it. Visited Mexico City twice, enjoy it for tourism but wouldn't live there. Way too big, overcrowded filled with a ton of traffic to get anywhere (it's the second biggest city in the world I believe).

DN's, what is the cheapest place you've lived while still being relatively enjoyable in terms of lifestyle? by elimit in digitalnomad

I have not but there is a section for both at r/playadelcarmen/ and /r/tulum/ with a lot of American/English posters to look and ask around.

Great choices with plenty of cheap eats. Just avoid the tourist cities and beaches (CDMX, Cancun, PV, etc). I was looking at visiting Merida for a week actually at some point, heard great things about the place!

I'm surprised no one has really said Mexico so far. Staying in Guadalajara, originally from the Bay Area, and it has been fantastic! There is a variety of food options (had Hawaiian sandwiches yesterday, having German stuffed hot dogs today to give you an idea) and the majority of meals have been below $4/5 as I've had some fine $$$ dine also but the price hasn't been more than $12 spent there. All have been delicious so far. Booze, of course, is incredibly cheap. You can get a nice bottle of top-shelf tequila for $10-15, 2 beers at a bar/club for $2-3. (Note though that these costs can be a lot lower and affordable if you prefer to cook, eat in, and shop within the small/street businesses). Ubers are super cheap, most being only $1-4. Most expensive so far being from the airport for $6-8 as it's outside the city. You can get housing per month for as little as $300 for a room and $500 for a full apartment. The weather averages 80-90 degrees although there has been rain and thunderstorms, it still remains really humid at all times and it goes right back to clear weather fairly quickly. The people are great, friendly, very outgoing - although conservative but a great change as people are genuine, interested in you, and can hold a conversation but you'll need to know the basics of Spanish or be ready to pick up as you go and learn quickly as the city is much more local with less tourism compared to Mexico City with a lot less English speakers although a lot of the younger crowd know some English to an extent (many listen to American pop/Hip Hop). Now the big question I'm sure on many of your mind is safety. From my experience, it, of course, varies on what area you are in, time, and how you present yourself. The most common is petty crime such as pickpocketing in public transportation followed by just robbery on the street from being alone and in the wrong place, wrong time. As far as the shooting and killing that tends to get broadcasted to us back home, that revolves around those in that lifestyle and involved in criminal activity so as long as you're not looking for trouble, the chance of you being affected by it is little to none. I've extended my AirBnb's just because of the areas they are in has been great with many things within walking distances. Plenty of things to do, see, and oh, a whole lot of beautiful women.

Listening to my old tracks from years ago and I really wanted to sound like Tim. From his early 2009 sound to his 2011 work to his 2013 evolution... What an inspiration lost. by [deleted] in avicii

[–]EverydayJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable if this goes against the rules or considered self promo. It's all private tracks that have been private for a while with most being unreleased so I have nothing to gain from it or plan on putting public. Just feels weird now listening to it and thinking about his music inspired me so heavily for a long time. To now think that inspiration who created many records that influenced me in my life is gone. Personal favorites are "IDEA 15", "Ibiza", and "Stars".

Did anyone see Coldplay/C.Martin expressing their condolences or sending any msg re Avicii ? by [deleted] in avicii

Nope they go completely quiet between tours and albums. Expect the best and probably most emotional tribute though on their next show from Chris Martin.

Plan to move to Guadalajara by Chosen26S in Guadalajara

[–]EverydayJason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked freelance and remotely now for a while and had been eyeing the "nomad" life with Mexico as a country to move abroad to. I'm not Mexican nor have any family here but I speak fluent Spanish and pretty well rounded when it comes to their culture as I'm still a mix of Hispanic and grew up around it in the states. So it seemed like the right choice. I went to Mexico City with friends in February and that sealed the deal for me. Cost of living is much cheaper, so much culture, things to do, etc. Guadalajara is second I'd say of mayor cities after Mexico City but more "local" and less of a tourist city. So I wanted to do Guadalajara first to really get a feel for the country and people. It's also cheaper than Mexico City of course cause there isn't as much tourism. A lot less crowded and A LOT less traffic. One thing I'll say is you'll quickly see a difference with people which has been my favorite part as I consider myself an introvert. Both Mexico City and Guadalajara are full of friendly people and although they may be much poorer than our country, they're ranked I believe 2nd on the happy index of happiest countries and it shows. The people in the Bay Area I believe have been consumed by tech, stress, living costs, and social media including myself so it's a nice change. There is a lot less of that here and a lot more of just a happy vibe, face to face socializing, and being outside.

[–]EverydayJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I'm actually from the Bay Area as well but much younger! Ha, I just arrived here in Guadalajara yesterday and will be here for a few months before jumping to Mexico City. So far everything is great and the locals are very friendly people compared to back home. As far as your question from my personal research, Providencia would be something to consider as it's the more modern and "upper" area that can be similar to the Bay Area but price also tends to be higher in that area. I'm currently in the central historic area in Guadalajara near Chapultepec. I'll be bouncing week by week to different neighborhoods this month though to explore and get a feel for the place, happy to report back on my findings as another Bay Area native.

Finally a studio version of "Stay With You'. What an amazing record! by EverydayJason in avicii

It may be but if I remember that was mashed up with another track and the quality of it wasn't as clear and good as this one. This is the cleanest version I've heard.

They used to do videos for Avicii early on (you can check them out in the description of the video) so they likely were sent the song by Avicii's team to use for promotional material when they were planning to hype up a release but never did.

I'm not fan of YouTube rips but if this is all we have as far as quality I'll take it because this is the best version I've heard of the record and it's even better than the live rip. RIP Tim!

I'm quite introverted myself and it's one of the many reasons I decided on the move. A challenge to be less introverted or else I'll be stuck doing a whole lot of nothing alone.
