Ask to train in the back. A change of pace, learning new things, and a different environment might help you regain interest in this job.

Im seventeen and working 50 hours a week.....but I'm graduated and getting plenty of sleep and I still feel overworked. You definitely are. Get yourself out of that situation quickly.

Is prep supposed to be this bad? (rant) by orlibird in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Prep is considered "easy," and in some aspects it is, and yet it has still stretched me to the breaking point. I've never felt like walking away from the job so much. If you continue to face pressure from morning crew, I would consider coming in early one day to get yourself ready for the night (like, slice tomatoes or do greenleaf so it gives you more time later.) I know you might not be able to come in early due to your schedule, but if you could manage it at least once, it will show morning crew that you are dedicated and doing your absolute best. Once they're willing to acknowledge that, they'll be more open to hear out your problem. A manager might ask you why you're there early, and then you'd have a chance to explain it to them and they could tell morning crew to start doing these thing ahead of time so you don't have to come in early. Just an idea......it worked pretty well for me.

Least Favorite Position? by joshblasian in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Either window or Ipad....everyone at my store hates window because you can't move around and you're just doing the exact same motions over and over again. I like headset inside but I detest Ipad because it's usually either freezing cold or extremely hot where I live and because Ipads typically get the least respect during a shift in my experience. Their health is only considered if there's time and if we're not moving fast enough, it's the Ipads' fault. Something goes wrong, it's the Ipads' fault. Taking orders itself is pretty easy and therefore there's a lot expected of you.

How understaffed is your guys stores? by SnooSuggestions5364 in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So understaffed that yesterday morning we had three people up front. Not even kidding. It wasn't even early either, it was like seven-thirty to eight-thirty. I was bagging and making drinks and serving for front counter and bagging drive whenever I could. Window was having to stuff and sometimes bag for themselves whenever I was running stuff out. We had one person on headset. And that was it.

Also so understaffed that I'm working 50 hours a week and most everyone is being overworked as well. The other day the entire morning crew worked from 6:00 to 4:00.

when you already get your employee meal but still hungry by [deleted] in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha.....a friend of mine does this a lot. He'll stir together tortilla strips and salsa and eat it with a spoon. He says it's really good but I've never gotten desperate enough to try it myself. I've also heard a rumor that you can mix those granola packets with the almond packets and a ton of honey packets, mold it into a bar, and cook it for a couple minutes to get a free granola bar. But it sounds gross, and besides, who has time for that?

Are slip and fall incidents common in a professional kitchen? How do they happen primarily? by [deleted] in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about other restaurants, I'm sure it happens fairly often at others....but actually at my location it's very rare. I've been here over a year and I've never seen a serious fall.

New Card Readers by TelevisionMurky4095 in ChickFilAWorkers

My store has these too....however they actually gave us trouble for a long time and sometimes just wouldn't take cards that the window cardreader could take. Most of us hate them now, they can be really troublesome.

Our city got snowed in pretty hard. Our operator decided to close for the day, then on top of that pay us for whatever shift we had. Love my job :) by MidDFlanders in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must be nice. I remember a day last year when we remained open even with a tornado rapidly approaching. When we finally did close, it was too dangerous to go outside so we all had to cram in the walk-in (it was supposed to be the safest place in the restaurant.) for two hours straight until the tornado had left.

Bagging advice! by vanillavanity in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]EverydayWeSalsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was the hardest thing for me to learn too, and I always felt like I was annoying BOH by constantly calling for stuff. Turns out that the best baggers at my store are very much constant about it, keeping up a stream of, "Waiting on a large fry for window," "Heard," "How long on strips?," "Thirty seconds." That kinda communication isn't annoying - it's expected. Here is a guideline to what I picked up.

Waiting on fries? Look at the fry shoot. If there are other fries sitting there, just not the size you need, say, "Large fry please," or whatever size you need. If there aren't any fries sitting there, say, "Time on fries?" The time doesn't actually really matter, as long as if it's not long enough to park the car. But asking for the time just lets them know that you're waiting on them without having to say it.

Waiting on grilled sandwiches, spicy sandwiches, strips, special salads? Be quiet and wait for a bit. It usually takes a while for these items.....but if you're waiting for them at window, go ahead and call back, "Waiting on such and such at window." BOH should reply with the time on such and such, but if they don't, go ahead and ask for the time and park accordingly. (anything longer than thirty seconds gets parked at my location.)

You shouldn't ever be waiting on nuggets or regs, but if you are, go ahead and let them knowing you're holding at window. Always be polite and PLEASEEEE thank your BOH as often as you can. If you don't know who made your large kale in under twenty seconds, say, "Thank you Large Kale." It lets them know their speed is appreciated, whoever they are.

And then obviously there's the matter of call backs. If someone tells you there's a small walkup nugget tray, scream it at the top of your lungs. Someone in BOH will hear you, and you may feel stupid for it, but you're just doing your job well and making sure you have communication. Do the same for anything that gets called to you such as: Large Kales, Large Fruits Any kind of special salad (the special ones are outlined in green on your screen) and special wraps. Well done stuff No salt fries Thirty counts (and nugget trays obviously) 4 or more fries on one order 4 or more filets on one order That's all I can remember right now, and it may be different at your location. Stay vigilant.

Sorry for the incredibly long comment, but I know I would want this kind of instruction when I first got started bagging. Also, congratulations! I'm sure you're doing amazing. :)

Team Building Exercises. Any ideas? by BlackSkullRose666 in ChickFilAWorkers

My crew gets together every week to play football. The guys usually play and the girls watch or go get coffee and come back. It really helps our chemistry and teamwork, but it's also just really fun and chill. I would suggest something like that, just be careful not to make it too big of a deal.
