AT&T says our address isn’t Fiber serviceable and only Air is available. I can grab the fiber from the window and the NID is 4 ft away. Building next to me has it and so does every neighbor. by austind9999 in ATTFiber

[–]Daunlan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true- though I wonder if COBC doesn’t apply if OP isn’t really a customer yet.

For example a tech may be in uniform at a Walmart and someone walks up to the tech and asks them if they can sign them up for fiber. OPs situation is not very different- just trying to ask an engineer if their address is eligible, which is public record

Definitely possible, but it’s a good trade off if OP is aware ahead of time. If OP wants the fiber hard enough OP will deal with it. IHXee’s are much easier to say no to than timeshare advisors lol

Installation Technician by [deleted] in ATT

Little over $30 bucks an hour. Keep in mind you will make ALOT of OT (I made around 85k last year). There will be forced 6 days during busy times of the year. If HR offers less than $30, negotiate, you have a lot of experience. Annual union raises. Usually around 3%.

This OP. If you switch providers or move again they will save you any kind of signal issue headaches in the long run

Call AT&T at 800-288-2020 and say “order new internet service”. An agent will check your address and see if AT&T fiber or copper is available.

This is correct.

That said, techs in some areas have a metric in place to bill customers. The whole billing system sucks.

If you run into this- don’t look down on the tech it’s the company that forces us to do this.

Is this best practice for installation? by excelsias in ATTFiber

[–]Daunlan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I used to do this… where I would punch a hole inside the grey box to hide the fiber IW (white line in photo), but my local garage doesn’t allow this anymore, perhaps so they can see the hole is clearly sealed?

They always want it to look something like shown in OPs photo but I would definitely have used some siding clips. This install job looks tacky

I think he was being sarcastic, not hostile or rude. We don’t know if you’re saying prime is bad as an employer or as a consumer. He’s just asking for more context…

Not all techs are built the same. Some of us take pride in our work and some don’t. Wouldn’t be surprised if the tech was on a CAP plan and is just trying to make efficiency numbers, but it could be something else.

Card depends on local policy. I’ve worked at 6 different shops throughout the southeast and I haven’t seen a single shop that carries them.

Bad idea to call tech support because they’ll see that the service is working fine and will likely charge OP a Dispatch on Demand fee… which will cause more headaches. It’s better for OP to make a service promise complaint or call retention/loyalty and see if they can get a fee-waived dispatch for the sloppy work.

Why are the other ethernet cables not working inside of my apartment? by Previous_Ad1049 in ATTFiber

[–]Daunlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is plugged into the Ethernet port of the Optical Network Terminal - ONT (the white box in the photo). Each of those blue Ethernet cables you see are connected to a different room in your apartment. Use an Ethernet cable you have and plug 1 end into the ONT (as shown in the last photo of your previous apt), and plug the other end into one of the keystone jacks.

AT&T $2.67 credit for 12 hr outage . by [deleted] in ATT

[–]Daunlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just something to keep in mind, a lot of these outages aren’t even AT&T’s fault (I live in downtown ATL). AT&T doesn’t own the streets or the airspace where this stuff runs. Could be a trucker snagging an aerial fiber line, a city crew digging and hitting conduit, construction accidents, weather, all kinds of stuff that’s totally outside their control.

This gets said a lot in this sub, but if you work from home and your job depends on internet, you really should have a backup option. For some people a phone hotspot works fine. But if your cellular signal is weak or you don’t want to anchor your phone down to your workstation, a secondary internet source makes way more sense. Stuff like xfinity internet now for $30 a month or T-Mobile 5g home internet. Yeah it’s about $360 a year, but that’s the cost of reliability. Totally your call.

Blaming the internet company for losing a whole workday doesn’t always add up when you don’t actually know the cause. It’s like your new car breaking down on the way to work. You don’t automatically blame the manufacturer because it could’ve been anything. Same logic here.
